Rockband 3 Keytar as MIDI controller (harmonix brand)

a little help...?

Has Anyone tried using Caustic for Android or Windows 10 using a Rockband 3  keytar?  I have had no luck on either my desktop, or tablet.

I'm new to synth/midi/VSTs so I'm a little lost. I'm also on a tight budget, so Cubase and a name brand MIDI controller will have to wait.

I have the RB3 Keytar, and a MIDI to USB cable. Both the desktop and tablet OSs seem to recognize that there is a USB MIDI device plugged in, but Caustic's instruments do not respond to the RB3 controller.

The research I have done on youtube has yielded videos that make the process seem very plug-and-play, but I have been unable to replicate this.

I feel like there is a simple, final piece of the puzzle missing, like a host or a driver. If anyone has had this issue and resolved it, please let me know, ( Please include the name of any apps or software)

I would be very grateful.

 TIA

A quick google doesn't talk

A quick google doesn't talk about it being class compliant device, this is likely to be the issue.

You know, you guys aren't

You know, you guys aren't required to be elitist babies just because you're musicians. You know you are using your phones to make music, right?

I hear that keytar has a 5-pin midi port on the back? If that's the case, you can skip the USB port on the back and get a cheap (<10 USD) MIDI-USB converter cable on Amazon. Correct me if I'm wrong, but any modern cable will definitely work on Caustic, right?

Still no guarantee....... I

Still no guarantee....... I'll maintain my previous statement....     Not all phones that you can make music on will accept even class-compliant MIDI controllers due to round-trip latency.    I need to dig up my old article about it -- just as relevant today as it was when Rej first added it to Caustic some years back.

That's a good point, how USB

That's a good point, how USB OTG is not an all or nothing thing on Android, although OP said they're also trying Windows so I doubt that's it.

To OP, does the controller work on other programs? If you don't know, get MuseScore, start a new score, press N, and play a note. If it doesn't work, go Edit>Preferences>IO, select your Controller, and restart MuseScore. If your keyboard works there, then that's on Caustic and you should try the other port on your keyboard or something.
