Overlapping patterns Error

I am working on a chord progression. I want one chord in the progression to be 1/4 of a measure, but I cannot find a way to make a pattern that is shorter than 1 measure. So I make the pattern for the chord 1 measure long, and I have dead space at the end of the pattern. I try to eliminate this by turning off quantization and moving the next patter over to where the notes stop on the first patter. I get an error because I am overlapping patterns.

What is the correct way to do this? Is there no way to make a pattern that is less than 1 measure? Overlapping patterns is extremely difficult, so I don't really want to mess with that.

Thank you in advance for your help, this is driving me crazier.

Chris

Edit: I hate my phone sometimes.

Go to the song settings page and uncheck snap patterns to measures. Then use the pattern stretch tool to drag your pattern down to size. Minimum is 1/4 note.
