MacBook-to-Android MIDI

Hi,

I bought Caustic very recently, and so far I love it!

However, I seem to have overestimated it´s capabilities... namely the ability to sync it up to my MacBook (with Reaper as DAW).

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5, which I can put into MIDI mode. Using the App "Midi Scope" I can verify that Reaper does in fact send MIDI Data to the phone. NoteOn/Offs, Syncmessages and CCs are properly received. So far so good.

However, I can NOT get Caustic to react to any of this! As you all know the MIDI settings in Caustic are somewhat limited, thus there is not much room to overlook anything...

HOW can I use the MacBook as Master and Caustic (on Android) as MIDI slave? Essentially, I want to use the phone as a MIDI sound module.

If someone has done this before please let me know!

Thanks,

Christian

p.s.: I should probably mention that the phone connects to the MacBook with a regular USB cable. I have yet to try to plug a small USB-MIDI adaptor into the phone and use that instead. However, the regular USB cable should be sufficient, but maybe Caustic does not support MIDI like that?

Ok, so no sync. That´s fine,

Ok, so no sync. That´s fine, I want to use Reaper as a sequencer anyway.

But how do I make Caustic use the NoteOn / Offs?

I guess part of my problem is that Caustic does not recognize my MacBook as a MIDI controller (as it would if I plugged in a OTG cable and a keyboard). Any hints on this?

Yeah I hear you.

Yeah I hear you.

Honestly, I tried getting Ableton and Bitwig to do the same thing you want a year or so ago and I didn't have any luck either.

I think the problem is the code Rej uses is NOT the new Android MIDI api. I know for a tact that if a developer uses the new Android MIDI API, you can connect to any DAW from a usb device, I have done this with my dev and Bitwig / Nexus Tablet.

Unless there is some open source third part relay/patch type middle man that can bounce the messages to a driver Rej's code would see as a midi device, it might not be possible.
