Merge rack to instruments immune to envelopes?

I hope I'm just doing something wrong here but when I merge a rack to instruments then reopen it in the pcm synth it doesn't react at all to the volume envelopes in the PCM synth. I've tried two different modes, play once and note on/off and both just play the sample for the duration set as "Hold" during the export.

Here's what I've got so far:
1) I make a growl in its own rack
2) I merge rack to instrument using a Hold of 1s, a release of 0s, and sampling every 3 semitones
3) I exit that project and open a new one
4) I add a PCM synth to the new project and open my new instrument

Then, when I play notes they last 1s regardless of Mode and regardless of decay and sustain settings. I have my decay set extremely low and my sustain at 0 so the note should only last a fraction of a second but, for some reason, it still plays for a full second.

I even tried using a polyphony of 1 and using a silent note to attempt to cut it and that didn't work either.

Anyone have any thoughts on what's going on? Like I said, I hope I'm just doing something wrong because this feature is an amazing idea but it's pretty much useless if it only plays the hold time that you export.

So I just found something. It

So I just found something. It might be because I'm exporting it in stereo! When I merge them to mono it acts like you'd expect! That still sucks because I wanted this sound in stereo and there also doesn't seem to be an easy way to do that merge except to open every sample it made and merge it in the wave editor but I've found why it happens I guess at least.

NEVERMIND!!! I'm an idiot! I

NEVERMIND!!! I'm an idiot! I was only setting the mode to Note On/Off on certain samples but that needs to be set for every sample in the synth! Ok sweet! Problem solved!!! Thanks Rej you're awesome!!

Sounds like you had a very

Sounds like you had a very productive conversation with yourself. I couldn't have helped you anyway. I haven't been able to get creative with the merge rack feature. I haven't hit on a combination of sounds/instruments that work well. What are you merging to create that growl?

I've found it works quite

I've found it works quite well for layered bass sounds - say you've got a sub bass on the FM / Sub or PCM Synth and then another more melodic bass on another synth, both playing the same bassline in unison - 'Merge Rack to Instrument' means you can simply have one PCM Synth playing the bassline and get one rack slot back.

I've not had much success with leads though.

Thanks, James.  You've given

Thanks, James.  You've given me a new idea for experimentation!  Perhaps a new track will come from it.
