I heard them on BBC 6 Music

I heard them on BBC 6 Music yesterday after having seen them live maybe half a dozen times in the 90's...

Didn't think they sounded as full blooded today as they did back then - specifically the live lead instruments sounded oddly separated from the backing track, almost as if they had live synths over the top of sampled backing tracks / tapes.

That said, all the artists on this 6 Music live in Belfast sounded pretty awful, including the sets by Beck and Therapy? So maybe it was a quirk of the venue acoustics.

Yep, this is exactly how they describe their method in the video.

Have a listen to this for nostagic purposes.

I think I was at the 1994 one

I think I was at the 1994 one - I went twice, two years in a row and think I saw Orbital both times. They played a mashup of 'Heaven Is A Place On Earth' by Belinda Carlisle that worked amazingly.

Going back to their live sound - I think that they basically took their entire studio on stage when they started playing live so every instrument (all hardware) was being played live via midi (not sure whether they were using hardware sequencers or software) so the live performance element was playing the mixing desk and live control of the hardware synths.
