I bought a little app called Caustic for £2.49...
And you create some pretty awesome tunes too:) Alot of very creative people here.
It's funny Caustic changed my life and I still can't tell you exactly why I make apps for the engine. On one hand I wish I had more persuasion to get Rej to push ahead but then again, it was great to be able to make things that integrated with the app.
Never know about the future, it's unwritten. :)
Caustic certainly got me back into writing music, and I find it incredible that I have nearly 300 followers on SoundCloud listening to my tunes.
Also, to see how far caustic has come in that time from 1 sub synth, 1 drum machine, a couple of 303s and a weird double keyboard pcm synth. I used to write pretty much everything on the drum machine and 303s because you didn't have patterns on the pcms of subsynth at the time.

I just passed my 3rd Caustic Birthday and it opened a whole new world of musical creation to me. I was really only proficient on guitar and mostly in live settings, but with Caustic I could find ways to express musical ideas in a million ways. I think I had an ear for music, but I learned almost I know about synthesis, filtering, and mixing from Caustic and now I can channel a lot of inner ideas into actual music!
Cheers to you Rob, on your Caustic Birthday!
I'm guessing I was one of the very early adopters of Caustic, not sure how many version 1ers there are on here?! It would be intresting to know when the first release of caustic happened.
Version 1er checking in!
Still got a lots of love for this beautiful software and the forum too.
I got Caustic 2 in Summer / Autumn 2012 (I think).
So around 6 years ago, and it has changed my life for the better too, giving me a creative outlet I desperately needed and introducing me to some awesome people (and Rob ).
Check that out. :)
Close to the beginning, May12 2012
Ha ha. Brilliant!
@James What the hell was your user name before James, I remeber it was something that I hated writing over and over when we really started to get going as a forum and in beta testing. :)
And check this out all, this was the very start of this web site about 5 months after it was created.
I really should have joined the forum earlier... I joined it pretty much on the eve of caustic 3!
@Mike - I can't remember. It changed a few times, including one that Rej made up for me that had about 17 syllables. That's probably the one you recall!
@James It was when you had that avatar cartoon with the beer mug. :)
Bidirp... Bipidri... Biri... Oh for fucks sake. James!
It took half an hour to read every post whilst listening to everything in show and tell.
Just purchased this app for my mobile phone. Here's to another 7 years
Oh, Bipidri Bait. It was a reference to the rather awesome Sci-fi RPG Anachronox made by ION Storm in 2001.
I think I found my first ever caustic track...
I like it Rob. Did you ever expand on it?
No, it's megablast by bomb the bass, so never really bothered!
I remember the game it was in very well.
Nice! At first I thought it was your take on Assault On Precinct 13. Then I realised it was your take on someone else's take on it. :) Anyway you inspired me to cover the original. :)
Just to say hello, friends!
By the way, I'm working on a Beatles tribute, and guess what: I still use caustic (as sample launcher and for a background organ and the mellotron flute in "strawberry fields")
I think I still have my "Caustic season 1" tracks somewhere.
It's safe to say I did nothing good in caustic 1... Caustic 2 however things really changed!
This I think was caustic 2.1 where we finally had patterns for all machines and importantly could make a pattern more than 4 bars... And had triplets!
