I'm a major fan and daily user of Caustic. Does anyone have news of when the next update version of the app will be released?
I don't think anyone does except Rej.
That said, what do you expect from an update? And I don't mean this in a snarky way... Personally aside from the mastering app being formally released and maybe an audio track machine caustic seems pretty complete to me. Sure a few tweaks here and there modular components etc but really, it's pretty damn good.

The main thing I would like is a resolution to the issue of wav/audio recordings being limited to 20 seconds or so in the PCM Synth. (I know there are some workarounds with the vocoder and boom box.) If that would be covered by adding an audio track machine, that would take care of this concern.
Other, less important improvements would be in terms of navigation/interface:
- Pinch gestures for zooming in the pattern and song editors would be great to have.
- Is there any way to start playback within a pattern, mid-pattern, and not from the beginning of the pattern?
It's such a beautiful app overall that I'm sure any other updates Rej would decide to include would be amazing, so I would love to see what he does with it in future updates.
There is always a room for improvement. Following your logic, we would be also using Reason 1, Live 1 and Fruity Loops 3.
That is not Rob's point and it would imply he is pretty childish about his thoughts, which he not.
What he doesn't want to say, is that Rej took a sabbatical from Caustic and who knows if he is ever coming back. He is not Ableton, nor Propellor Heads or Image Line.
He was one guy that made something fun and moved to other things along with family.
So Rob's actual logic is, guys, Rej left(the forum) because of incessant feature requests and banter, the app is pretty damn good, enjoy what is here and Rej never charged updates, ever.
Saying there is always room for improvement in software is like saying I am hungry tomorrow, it's one of those things that goes without saying.
I wasn't aware that Rej was taking a sabbatical. Of course I respect his time and freedom to use his time however he wants to!
Caustic is extremely useful as-is. My post was simply to find out Rej's plans for future development, as I didn't know. I will continue to use Caustic regardless.
No problem, maybe people will read this post more often.
I cannot for see the future of some body that is not me, but what I said is the fact as of now.
TLDR; Feature requests are not being read by anybody that would do anything with them ATM.
Just a small issue...
Fix the annoying bug when using the 'Pinch gestures for zooming in the wav editor' it freezes and crashes everytime..
Hi all, I know I haven't been around here for a while, but I do pop into the forum once in a while to see what's going on in the community here....
I can say that Caustic is still amazing in its current state, and I still use it myself, believe it or not. My daughter still uses it alot and is moving into orchestration, as I am myself.... I just may or may not be showcasing that in the future, who knows.
That said.... If you want MORE out of Caustic, then take a step back and look at the bigger picture, and learn to think outside of the box. Caustic in its build and design is completely modular, and can be used as such. My PocketKit and Builderz projects in years past here have proved that, and have helped pave the path to what Caustic can do today.... If you get creative enough and remove the mental limits of what you think this app has, you will discover new ways to use this, and maybe take this beyond what I have....
Hi to all of the original cast members still here
Wow, didn't expect to see you comment on this post. :)
Same bat channel Jason, interesting app coming up that shows how versatile Caustic is.
Actually I am just finishing the last touches and videos so within 2-3 weeks I will be releasing it.
*Hijacking this thread to say "Hi" to Jason.
Hi everyone, I've been using caustic with studio one. Basically creating some things and transfering the waves into studio one to intergrate with my other instruments or sample software. I still check this forum but have been pretty much listening to others creations without commenting. I've been really busy. I think caustic is extremely versatile. I love it and this community:)
I think that Rej must have an agreement with a harware compagny so we can have Caustic machines and sequencer in a real keyboard...
I hope he does have some kind of agreement like that. It would be nice to know that Caustic is a living, growing product with a team to support Rej on his brilliant vision. Can't wait to see what the future holds for it :)
I just want beat splicing at this point.
If Caustic as it is doesn’t have what you want I’d say you should look at other apps because who knows if and when Caustic will go beyond what it is now. Don’t get me wrong. I love Caustic. But, at least on iOS, there are a million choices for the few things that Caustic doesn’t do.
On iOS it’s miles behind , there are ‘new’ features AB2/3 state saving , Ableton Link sync, IAA sync, iOS 11 file sharing, not to mention AUv3 , multiple audio out ports and other goodies .
But , may not worth investing hours , caustic works as it is standalone and it’s very good :)
I am sure that on a potential major bug from iOS update , caustic will get a maintenance fix update :)
question was, what do you expect from an update ?
Improvment in Sound - No
More Features, Synth etc. - No
An App with which you can do anything at any time in any situation - No
Syncing with other Apps - YES
The App as it is is brilliant, sounds brilliant, the sequencer "workflows" brilliant and inspires brilliant - a synth groovebox deluxe. But to work and collaborate with other Apps on IOS, which include all the points of a virtual studio to Go, Caustic hasn´t implemented, so as Audiotracks etc it would be fine to have any kind of midi syncing / Ableton Link to these other apps.
So in my opinion Caustic isn´t a toy. It is in its momentary state a composition tool and musical notepad. As known this app is an one man driven show with limited dev capacities. Have there ever been plans to start something on kickstarter or other plattforms to give the dev the ability to hire more external programming ressources ? I would be the first in funding this campain.
What do you think`?
I agree with you that Caustic isn't a toy but a powerfull music tool.
Therefore, expects from updates...?
Little tweaks and fixes to handle this or that more easier.
At the moment I'm struggeling with automation of selection fields in different synths (like waveform or filter type in SubSynth or SawSynth).
If it isn't possible yet it would be nice to have this option. Or a kind of soundbank for each synth to change the whole sound during a song.
Some new synths would be nice
I love this program, and honestly, I can't think of anything I'd really want to add to it at this point (for me). Huge props to Rej for even writing it in the first place.
I probably use it more on the desktop than on my phone. It's fantastic for putting together musical ideas and fleshing out song structure.
I think of it like a bunch of Korg Volca modules, but on my phone. But considerably cheaper, easier to use, and with more features.
