PCM and Vocorder are not recording

It's been awhile sense I have been on the forum, but I was making a song, and I had to record my vocals. Both PCM, and the Vocorder wouldn't work. They wouldn't pick up any sound, or if they did it was only a constant clicking. I asked lord bondslave, thinking it was just my iPad, and he said to try it on another device. So I tried it on both a laptop, and a NIVIDIA Shield, and neither worked. So I'm guessing this is a bug. Kinda annoying because I can't finish the song.

Export the instrumental from

Export the instrumental from Caustic and import it into AUM, Cubase, Auria or any of several other iOS apps that will multi-track. Would probably be easier than trying to do it in Caustic.

That being said, I just tried recording into Caustic on my iPhone and it worked fine. What are you using to input audio to your iPad?

Thanks anickt. For audio

Thanks anickt. For audio input I'm just using the built in mic on the iPad. It can't be the mic though, because I tried it on three devices. Weird that yours works though.

Have you sequence patterned

Have you sequence patterned the vocoder's initiation buttons? Literally, the first six keys of the vocoder's piano roll match the 1-6 keys that sounds, or instruments, are designated to. Or, something like that.

I have pretty frequent

I have pretty frequent recording problems, any Caustic component that records audio won't work when this happens, the volume bars will be blank and pushing record does not cause the line to move to the right.  As mentioned above, quitting and restarting Caustic often helps, although it doesn't on the first try.  Another workaround I used when I couldn't get it to record even after restarting Caustic was to open another .wav file in the editor, then record over it, and that often helped.

I think it may be related to other apps interfering, it does happen much more often if I have other apps in the background, and almost every time if I used HumOn.  But I have had it happen without any other apps besides Caustic running.  The recording issues are my biggest problem with Caustic.

That's interesting.

That's interesting.

I've never had any problems like that with Caustic. When pressing the record button push to the right? Pattern or song mode? What subscreens ?

It happens in the .WAV editor

It happens in the .WAV editor tool, whether I get the from the options menu, BeatBox, Vocoder, PCMSynth, all the same. I can tell when I am going to have the issue before I actually start recording, when I hit the red record button and the warning about recording over things comes up, if it's working the volume bars will move when there is sound before you hit the second button that says "Record!". When you do that, the bar will move to the right automatically. If it's not working right, the volume bars will be dead before you hit record, and when you hit record the record button will be grayed out and the bar won't move. If you press play then, the bar will move but it doesn't actually record.

I also noticed that when it doesn't work, at the bottom, if you haven't loaded anything, it will say Untitled 05.00.00 16bit 44.1 Mono, but if it's working the time days 00.00.00. it looks like sometimes, fire unknown reasons (just now it was working fine, then I closed caustic and reopened it, no other apps, and I saw the 05.00.00 which means now it won't work unless I restart caustic... Like the normal default on a new file is 0 length, but sometimes it brings up a five minute blank file that you can't record to. I got some screenshots I can post if useful.

I don't know if this is related, bit I've noticed if I click Done from the wave editor and I haven't saved anything this session, it will prompt me to save the recording and assign a long alphanumeric name beginning with R. I THINK it does that more when having the record glitch but I'm not certain, maybe I just notice it more because I don't use the save button when there's nothing recorded. Weird thing is, I can't find these files in any Caustic folder. Is the app sometimes loading blank corrupted files instead of creating a new one, and if so, why?

I just realized that the file

I just realized that the file name it gives you that starts with R is the time and date, year first...I got one a little while ago that was R170324002140 - twenty one minutes and forty seconds after midnight on 3/24. I'm going to try and find them again, but I looked all over my phone before for one because I recorded over something by accident and was hoping I could find the R file of the initial recording.

Figured out how to search my

Figured out how to search my entire phone storage, even if you click done instead of the X when it asks you to save the recording, it doesn't, even if you rename it on that screen.

And now I can't get it record again after multiple restarts. Going to reboot the phone.

Trying to troubleshoot this

Trying to troubleshoot this under different circumstances has taught me that my $20 headphones have a little crappy microphone. I was wondering why sometimes it records stereo and sometimes mono... If headphones are plugged in, mono through headphone mic, stereo from phone microphone. I'm going to need to disable that, I was wondering why I couldn't keep sound from my headphones from being picked up when singing to music, even when I held it far away. Got to be able to record well with headphones on. I'm now realizing why the quality of my recorded samples varied so,, it's because sometimes I am to recording on crappy phone mic that is positioned properly, sometimes on an even crappier microphone that was never positioned where I thought it was.

I figured it out. It was my iPad, not caustic. Sorry for the confusion.
