Buddha's Smile - A new Track, experimenting with Pianroll Input

Hey, so up to now, I have never made a track using piano roll input, so I wanted to give it a go and see what I could, in the end it turned out to be a kinda hybrid, some of the machines use piano roll input some use pattern input, and some are a combination. Using some new presets, contributed by opus.quatre, one of his Rhodeys, and a couple from Killer Jo, bass and a trumpet, which combines nicely with another trumpet which I have used before. Of course I had to twiddle a little bit with the Rhodey and the Trumpet, and I think the trumpet gives it a little bit of a dub feel with the delay...yeah? well maybe, overall it probably has a little bit of a fusion vibe going on, well I think so, but I may well be wrong...lol...enjoy

Hey, just a quick note to say

Hey, just a quick note to say I enjoyed my first listen but intend to give it the one it deserves later. Very creative and has nice distinct sections.  I particularly liked the groove you got into in the mid-section.  Earlier I notice how nicely your bass and keys intertwined rhytmically.  I'll give you another response after a full blown playing.

Hi Wellsley

Hi Wellsley

Well what can i say. I think you have caught the piano roll bug BIG TIME. :) Lots of places i think could do with a little attention , but wow , for your first time editing this way you should be darn happy. Great mix of sounds and themes , super funky bass and killer keys. Sterling work :) Oh and i love what you did to the brass. Brilliantly over the top sound. Almost reminds me of the high pitched parp from a balloon when you slowly let the air out while holding the little blow hole tightly together. LOVE it.

Love the intro/opening and the final 30 seconds! They have a sad, bittersweet quality.

The groove that kicks in at 1:22 is what wins me over and this section could stand on its own.  The nice break at 3:00 and then you restate your theme through to 3:40.  That section 1:22 - 3:40 is golden.  I don't mean to detract at all from the whole but just wanted you to know that section was particularly awesome in its awesomeness.  I really appreciate having your music to listen to.

Hey Guys, thanks for all the

Hey Guys, thanks for all the feedback, it's very much appreciated...

@killer Joe...Yeah, I know my stuff is not without faults, definitely flawed, but you know what, I'm not really precious about it at all, I know my technical skills are probably not on par with most of the Caustic users, but I think I make up for it in other areas, never used any DAW major or mobile up until I came across Caustic, used to play guitar in rock based bands back in the day and had given up on music, so just happy to be able to compose and pop it out there. Great comments on the parts, just a word about the Brass, the trumpet I picked up from you is the one which has the heavy delay on, giving a kinda old fashioned dub sound ( well sort of ) The trumpet you refer to as having that balloon sound ( yeah I get the description and chuckled very hard hehe ) is another preset, which has a trailing vibrato, which I added a Phaser Fx, Delay and a little reverb, I love this trumpet and use it fairly regularly...thoughtful comments from you so ta smiley oh if there is something obvious about certain things needing attention, I am quite willing to hear about it, i will not through my toys out the pram...wink

@deeplow, thank you very much for your feedback, I love your stuff and always think to myself you need to make more that you do, so come on no slacking now wink

@ JH...haha, awesome then, Mate that's so nice of you to say, and you know what, it's a completely fair comment to make about a particular section, I reckon that happens a lot to most people. I am glad the track works a whole though...but the best part is always getting comments and feedback from my peers, and I always appreciate your feedback my friend...Cheers

Very good, from the beginning

Very good, from the beginning to the end.. I have a special feeling for the long intro, which is your most Indian-sounding part, until now.. But all those other parts, and the way they end into each other, are all interesting ones.. I truly like it..

Ah thanks Thierry, I was waiting to hear what you thought, and so thanks you for your feedback, and thoughts, nice to hear that the track works as a whole piece, as you know a lot of my stuff usually has different parts and it is always a concern that they work together...but it's always good to hear smiley

Thanks mate, nice if you to say, not sure you are right about yourself, that's not what I hear in your stuff, anyway I tell you what, I would be honoured, I will fix up a link probably on Dropbox or Microsoft cloud, if you like, but it will probably be tomorrow morning, if that's OK?

Mate, my files are a mess. It

Mate, my files are a mess. It's almost like throwing all the ingredients in the air and somehow plucking a souffle out of the air. I started a wicked rework of Firework by Katy Perry years ago, was clever enough to save it to the cloud and decided to revisit it the other day.....I just couldn't make sense of it at all. Some notes were in piano roll, some were in patterns. Some volumes were animated on the mixer, some on machine, some in pattern, some in song mode....I gave up in the end lol. Shame cos I spent ages on it too

Got the file dude, after some

Got the file dude, after some major pucking (deliberate typo!) around with Dropbox, who now insist you have the app to view files, basically just to falsify their usage figures. Mega is the way forward y'all.
Anyhoo, thanks and will have a look at the file today. Gonna be fun dude in a "jigsaw from Saw" way hehe
