Ariana Grande - Into You (Alexei Bourdan's Slow Burn Remix)

Hey y'all.
I started this a year ago, had my phone nicked and it was the first tune I started when I got a new phone. Then I deleted my ENTIRE Caustic folder and thought it just wasn't meant to be. But I gave it one last try cos I really like the sound of it. I did have elements of Reflekt's "Need To Feel Loved" going through it but decided against using the acapella on this one cos ariana is enough for me baby.
All comments are welcome, thanks

Stunning stuff Alexei.

Stunning stuff Alexei. Beautifully crafted and very well mixed. Great vocal "choppery" on the vocals. I wouldnt have a clue how to do that.
Im looking forward to the next one. If you want the url of the remix site i mentioned i will email it to you. LOTS of cool stems to be had on there for chopping about.

Cheers dude. If you want any

Cheers dude. If you want any info about how I did it, I'm always happy to help out. There's lots of tricks for cool vox tricks on caustic. I'd load the caustic file, but it's 120mb, so I can't. I could cloud it and link you if you want, but I always find looking at other people's files really confusing.
If there's ANYTHING you need to know at all, "General Questions" is a great place to ask. Most ppl are really helpful here.
Thanks for commenting dude

Hey Alexei

Hey Alexei

It would be wonderful to get your knowledge on using vocals in Caustic. It is something i have kept away from. I would be greatly

appreciative to get a copy of the .caustic file. I find looking through them , yes can be confusing, but also enlightening too. LOL Plus i get to pilfer your sounds Ahahahaha

You are so right about this being a great place, everyone here is so helpful . I need to venture into the other sections a bit more too. I think i will post a few  presets i have made. I AM LOVING the merge rack function. Some of the Pad sounds and leads i have made are wonderful. Just need to put them into some music now. LOL

Ok, dude.

Ok, dude.
Mail me at

And I'll sort you out a link for the file.
Merge Rack is awesome!
It's also good for established instruments too. Sometimes, a sound can be too clean, but exporting it out as a pcm preset can totally change it. Take the opening arpeggio in this tune....it was originally a subsynth setting, but exporting and using as a pcmsynth preset makes it sound a little muddier.

Brilliant work Alexei, LOVE the vocal effects and it's all expertly mixed & mastered. Lots of variety throughout the track - keeps you hooked until the end.

Cheers dude. I was worried

Cheers dude. I was worried about keeping it interested to be honest. Most tunes have verse, chorus, verse 2, chorus, break and chorus, but there ain't that much base material to work with. There is the second half-verse, but it's only like, two lines, so I left it out.
Good to know you like it dude, cos again, I was worried about sounds clashing, like the arp and the piano, and if you saw the file, you'd see a lot of shit going on to make it all get along lol.
Cheers for listening and commenting, cos I think of all the stuff I've done, this is the closest yet to how I imagined it would sound in my head. Yknow what it's like, when you start piecing a tune together and you got the bare bones going on a loop, and then you get really excited cos you know in your mind how it should sound? It never usually comes together as I hear it and most my stuff is happy accidents that somehow come together, but just not the way I imagined it.
This tune was totally different and that's why I kept going back to do it again.

DanSeb, not kissin ass or

DanSeb, not kissin ass or anything, but you're work with vocals is my main inspiration and when I think something is too hard or laborious to even start, my brain says "Well , DanSeb can do it, so wassup witchu?"
Just sayin dude

Yeah it's sufficiently varied

Yeah it's sufficiently varied enough, that you keep hearing new bits as it progresses, and I didn't even realise I'd been listening for 9 minutes until it finished & I saw the time readout! It all works together really well, & those vocal effects are particularly impressive (especially the 'tape stop' & 'flutter' effects)

Haha, well again, I'm massively flattered, I really don't think my stuff is anything particularly special, but I'm dead chuffed it's providing some inspiration to you - that comment has made my day!

'Happy accidents that somehow come together' is exactly how I'd describe most of my tracks that make it to completion by the way, I create loads of beginnings of tracks that never make it off the ground, and then every now and then, one seems to emerge that has potential, and you get that excited feeling, and can't wait to continue working on it!

Not having much luck with DnB by the way, created a few loops over the weekend, but wasn't very impressed. Switched to '4 on the floor' and everything started to come together again(!) I will persevere a bit more!

Have you heard my latest track 'Who is it?' out of interest? I posted it a few days ago, but it's dropped down onto the 2nd page of Show & Tell with no comments unfortunately(!) It's not got a great deal of 'vocal choppery' going on, but has got some delay effect automation going on to emphasise  certain parts of the vocals (actually inspired by your comment on my Embrace remix by the way, about the delay on the vocal sample)

Will check it out now dude. I

Will check it out now dude. I think tapestop is an awesome lil trick, but can take hours to get one tiny little bit sounding right, cos there are multiple variables to consider (length of drop, depth of drop etc) I find that if you add a final short note much further down the scale, it creates a better effect. I'm still chuffed to discover that the pcm holds the last played sample at the point of the last note off point. Means you can create much finer gate effects and phrase things without chopping the sample too much. The "oh baby look what you started" bit is one continuous sample, but I ended the note before she says "started" and restart it later with the glide function on the next note, creating a gap. It kinda just holds the sample there, suspended in limbo til you either carry it on or start another sample. That opened a massive door in my mind lol

Oh wow, I wasn't aware of

Oh wow, I wasn't aware of that! I've just had to open up Caustic to try out what you describe - that's very cool indeed! By placing multiple notes with 'glide' enabled you can get some quite different effects by switching between 'Play once' and 'Note on/off' depending on whether you want the sample to pause or resume playing in the background. This is all new to me and will definitely be getting utilised in future tracks, thanks for sharing!

It's really handy for gating

It's really handy for gating too (I think that's what you mean by 'flutter')
If you want a gate effect, you just place however many notes you like with glide on, and take the velocity of each alternate note down to zero. I know you can gate using the volume control in pattern editor, but that will only gate it to a point. Using the glide function with the note length set to the smallest possible length, you can get a much finer gate effect. And of course, the velocity of the alternating notes don't have to be at zero, they can just be quieter, depending on how soft or sharp you want the effect. Like I said, it blew me away and turned the pcm l, which was already my favourite machine into something from another planet

Yes, I've always stuck to

Yes, I've always stuck to volume automation for the gate effect (only because I didn't realise there was an alternative), but as you point out, you only have a certain resolution using the pattern automation editor, which I why I referred to your technique as 'flutter' as it was a faster effect than I'm used to hearing. Well give that a try too, thanks very much!

Cheers dude. I found the

Cheers dude. I found the original studio acapella really easily about a year ago, but when I came back to do it, it had been taken down and I had to look hard to find it, eventually stumbling upon it in a youtube converter page that someone had generated to download it.
Dunno about a new style as such, but I've been playing around with vocals and glide and getting some amazing results, such as extra-fine gating that you can't get from pattern volume animation.
Thanks for the feedback. Really appreciated, cos you're another one of my 'benchmark' producers, and if you say it's good, I know I'm doing something right

Cheers dude. Bit of bad

Cheers dude. Bit of bad timing, calling it the Slow Burn Remix and dropping it two days before some ass wipe decides to blow up a load of little girls at one of her gigs (big man, right?). I'd call him a wanker, but he's just dickless.
I did some work on the tune, then bloody deleted it. I wish I could protect folders from deletion, cos I do it a lot. So I've grabbed it again, and it's in the mix of tunes I'm working on right now. I don't churn em out at the rate I used to lol

Ok, I've changed it a bit dude, you know me, I can't just sequence it. Can you mail me the original file again for reference. I ain't done yet, but somewhere in the fiddling about with it, it's lost the original feel and I wanna retain that, but just beef up the sound somewhat

You are one of the most

You are one of the most skilled producers here bro. :) Remember when i asked you to send me your song? Some british rapper with acoustic guitar. It was your remix of that song with guitar sample from "LifeUp" i guess. I love that song, but somehow i deleted it. Can you send me again?

Check out my new track.

Hey dude, thanks for the

Hey dude, thanks for the massive ego boost. Really awesome of u 2 say that.
This is the spookiest thing.....I just got some bloody nice sennheiser earbuds, so am re listening to some of my old tunes, and the tune you're talking about is what was playing when I got the email notification. Freaky!
It's called 'Heads Turning' by a UK rapper called Moonlight. It actually started as a Clab with Mr Danny Houston. I was actually just thinking it really stands up well after so long. I will find the sc link for u. Finding the caustic file might be harder but let me know and I will rummage around in my clouds...it's there somewhere. Thanks again dude. Just pissed off with the timing. Posted it two days before some dickless moron set off a bomb at her Manchester gig. Bad timing. Specially considering I called it the Slow Burn Remix too.
