Im really conservative when mixing?

Like really conservative, I band pass every layer, turn the bass all the way down on stuff, I guess im thinking I control the whole spectrum, is this... good? Or?

Do whatever works for you and

Do whatever works for you and if you think it sounds good. There's no right or wrong way to do stuff and however you decide to colour the final audio, it's how you want it to sound, you are right. If people don't agree then you can either take their advice, or ignore it.

I often end up with a wall of sound, some people don't like this, I do, if you don't like it don't listen... I'm right!! (and equally you're right to not like it!)

The answer is subjective,

The answer is subjective, like Rob said, but you could answer your own question by a little experimentation.  Get a track mixed just the way you like it, they way you are doing it.  Then turn of your BP filter for different instruments and listen to results. Or, dump the BP filter and control sound using just EQ on mixer and again listen to results. It will help you decide what is needed to give you the sound you want.  After that ... what Rob said.

Yeah thanks dudes, its easy to forget that all this stuff isnt rules, but I look at how I used to "eq" in the past and what I thought was beneficial, was detrimental, so I dont wanna still be doing that
