Anyone know where to start with real modulars?

I want to get started with real modulars, as I've been using caustic's modular synth for years and it has peaked my interest enough to get the real deal. I know they cost a lot, but I want to find a synth that is good for beginners, decent price range, and could be a gateway to 'proper expansion' ( if that even is a thing with modulars) of synths, effects, and sequencers.

- I see a lot of people starting out with the Korg brand.

- I'm also aware that I'd need materials such as speakers, power source, cords, you know the basics.

Also if I seems like I lack a vast amount of knowledge, that's because I do. Please provide any info or experience you have. It would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

SoundScape

I can recommend to look at

I can recommend to look at the "Synmag" magazine. There are many tests and descriptions about modular stuff. Possibly, you can buy some older issues as PDF docs. There is also a forum where you can discuss about synths and components.

P S. I watched his show and I discovered a lot about caustic App. Essentially I concluded that Anything can be a modular synth if you understand how audio voltage works. So check his equipment first. Check all the videos. For me he is the man who passed those crossroads between new and old. If you really want a software that perfectly simulates modular syntesis try AudioTools. It has the same concept like caustic only caustic is easier to handle, and it's more comfortable to work with.

Check this out before you try

Check this out before you try/buy hardware stuff.

https://vcvrack.com/

These main default modules use the same DSP as in expensive hardware, so... :)

I highly recommend Reaktor

I highly recommend Reaktor from Native Instruments. The depth and possibilities are truly amazing.

DSP == Digital Signal

DSP == Digital Signal Processing

VCV rack is a standalone or VST for PC/Mac and it's free.

Reaktor is NOT free :)

Neither is Caustic. Sometimes, as In this case, you get what you pay for. I've used both and I don't believe VCV is in the same league as Reaktor. I'm not sure one could even say VCV comes close.

I am not saying VCV rack is

I am not saying VCV rack is even close to Reaktor, I have Reaktor.

What I was saying is somebody that is asking about modulars, well one you need a desktop with power and two you need $$$ and that is not even saying you will be happy with it.

Caustic is free on Windows.

Yeah I think I'm going to

Yeah I think I'm going to stick with caustic for a while. Just remembered how to create a phaser out of the modular, and how versatile the synth is. Pretty neat stuff.
