First track in what feels like forever - uplifting, spiritual techno 'Positive States'. Give it a listen!

Caustic Song file (optional):

This has been in germination since February but is based on an older track that's been in my WiP folder for more than a year. The working title was 'Rebirth'. I think the only bit that survived is the heavily filtered Subsynth stabs that kicks off the track.

Last year, almost everything I uploaded to Soundcloud was made from older stems - this is a continuation of that method but the next two or three tracks I'm likely to finish were started in the last two or three months. It's also another experiment with writing using scales - C Harmonic Minor on this one.

The title is made up of States from Ron Trent's seminal techno / house tune 'Altered States' and Positive from Slam's 'Positive Education' that was widely acknowledged to have been heavily influenced by the earlier Ron Trent track. The 808 toms and the synth strings are the clear nod to those tunes.

I like this - let me know that you think. File is up as normal if anyone wants to have a poke at it.

This is epic, rolling techno with a definite uplifting, spiritual feel from the Subsynth strings - a touch of melancholy too though.

Love it! Especially the stabs

Love it! Especially the stabs at the beginning, and when the poppy bass kicks in :-)

If I may be so bold, I didn't find the string synth sound particularly pleasant. But the track overall is top-notch, hats off to you sir.

cheers,

Aldo

Of course you can be so boldĀ

Of course you can be so bold laugh

They feel right to me, in that they sound kind of authentic for the cheap gear a lot of early techno was made with but happy to get suggestions of what would work better.

Uhm, hard to explain using

Uhm, hard to explain using words, so I took the liberty of changing them directly in Caustic :-)

Definitely more mellow, although I tried to keep that bit of "zing" in the attack. But it still lacks richness in the sustain, which is probably what I meant by "pleasant". Maybe I would have gone with a SawSynth instead? I don't know.

Of course, it's all just for a bit of fun. The track is already frickin good as it is.

cheers,

Aldo

Mike - I'll take a look,

Mike - I'll take a look, thanks.

I used the EQ in Mastering to boost the bass for the whole track to make the kick, toms and bass a little more prominent so it's probably there that I overcooked things.
