kindle fire hd

was just wondering if i can hook up a usb midi keyboard controller to my kindle fire hd....i couldnt find anything on the internet....it says it recognizes midi file format but thats not exactly the same thing as transmitting real-time midi messages between the two devices...i suppose there is reason to expect significant latency, which i might might be ok with if its not to egregious.

You need to check if it

You need to check if it supports USB-OTG (On The Go). If it does there should be no problems.

I found conflicting reports

I found conflicting reports online. I would say the best thing to do is order an OTG cable from Amazon or eBay for like $3 and see what happens. My bet is you will need to root the kindle and install a custom ROM with a kernel that supports otg host mode. Definitely test a cable first.

*Edit: It also seems the HD models have the same problem as the older Kindle Fires in that they don't have enough energy output to power most devices. So if your keyboard doesn't have it's own power supply, you need to buy a powered USB hub to get it the extra juice.
