"Where Did You Come from?"

Caustic Song file (optional):

Okay, I found a fragment of a tune saved as "New C3 2A" in my song directory - I can't remember starting it surprise

Please shout up if it's one that was posted here by anyone.

I spent a little time extending it and ended up with something fun and pretty silly.

I used Pattern overide on one Beatbox so the two Beatboxes are slightly out of time with each other, I like the effect, not sure everyone would agree.

The title is pretty self explanatory - I have no idea where the track came from so I thought I'd ask it wink

Thanks Jason

Thanks Jason smiley

I think my presentation/production - the mix, my sounds, effects etc are all getting better so the end result sounds slicker.

Musically I'm still pretty limited - my drum programming has improved a lot and my arrangements hang together better, but I still have a limited palate when it comes to writing the actual music. I'm faking it a little at the moment with judicious use of transpose and shift wink

I really think that getting a midi keyboard will free me up a little though - don't worry, I'm not assuming I'll become a keyboard player overnight but I think it will encourage me to try more adventurous chords and chord progressions and then riff off these...simply because a real keyboard is more instant, accessible and tactile than a tiny touch screen keyboard on a tablet.

I'm torn between 25 keys (for size) and 49 keys (for flexibility).

Nice one James, I like the Classical touch you gave it. yes

About the keyboard I would say if you got room for it (and got the extra coin) go for a bigger one. You will not regret it, as you say you will get more creative while playing on a real keyboard and those extra octaves will make it easier for you.

Thank you smiley

The classical touch was a bizarre accident, I transposed and shifted the pattern in the source caustic file and the shift in emphasis suddenly gave it a classical feel. The pad chords were then built up from isolating some notes from the arpeggio into 4 chords over 2 bars.

I still have a sneaking feeling that the source file isn't mine - I don't know where it came from if it wasn't but I'm thinking maybe someone like Danjob, Bojeroo or Mniip may have started it. I know I DL'd the odd test file here and there but they're generally in my Downloads folder not my Caustic song directory indecision

And yeah, 49 keys feels the more future proofed option, I'm not a great musician so I don't know what would/should work, I can only mess around until I find something that does, 49 keys would give me a greater space to experiment.

And...if I spent as much time on my tunes as I do drafting my forum posts I would be...slightly more accomplished wink

Thanks smiley Is it actually one of Rej 's, Mike?

Ah, Mike that's my C3 Alpha vocoder test. In Caustic itself you may find a track in the song directory called New C3 2A. I used this snippet to write a tune yesterday, Skarabee says he's got the same file in his song directory so I'm guessing Rej added it.
