korg nanokey midi controller and kindle fire

I am using a kindle fire 7" previous generation purchased Dec 2012 and trying to connect a korg nano key midi controller. These are the specs for the kindlePortsUSB 2.0 (micro-B connector) port for connection to a PC or Macintosh computer or to connect to the Kindle PowerFast charging accessory Audio3.5 mm stereo jack and integrated stereo speakers,Content Formats SupportedKindle (AZW), KF8, TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively, Audible Enhanced format (AAX), DOC, DOCX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, non-DRM AAC, MP3, MIDI, PCM/WAVE, OGG, WAV, MP4, AAC LC/LTP, HE-AACv1, HE-AACv2, AMR-NB, AMR-WB, HTML5, CSS3, MP4, 3GP, VP8(.webm).

specs for the korg nano key: power supply: us bus power mode, power consumption: 100mA or less

Ihave been told that the Kindle needs an USB host mode or 'OTG'. Does anyone know if the problem is with the kindle fire not being able to power the controller. Would a powered usb hub work or is it because of the USB host mode or OTG? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

however im not entirely sure that even if you get a powered usb hub that it will work...i believe the kindle may not support midi file standard via usb..powered or not, i could be wrong,  there is not much info available...if you get it to work let me know...cause i would love to get a usb midi keyboard.

Hmmm just googled it and its seems that the Kindle Fire (non HD) doesn't Support USB OTG so I guess it won't work at all. Whether or not a powered USB hub would help I have no idea.... Sorry.

I would be interested to know how you get on though 'cos I've been thinking about getting a powered USB hub so that I can use my NanoKey for extended sessions on my Nexus 7 - which does have USB OTG and works well. Does anybody know if that would allow me to power my tab and still use the USB keyboard? The battery ain't what it used to be. Can't get CC mode to work though so maybe its not that useful...

Edit: ah just seen danjdob's reply while I've been typing this out.

Well I have an answer The Kindle fire does not have  USB-OTG. The easiest way to test is to plug a mouse in and if there is a cursor is has OTG.

Thanks for all the suggestions anyway

I don't think it's about the cable...after some research, it looks like the only way to make it work, would be to rom the kindle ( install a different android version )...but will loose all Amazon content and features.
