Was totally stoked to see Caustic had been updated. I've been using it lately for creating samples and loops that I can use in my DAW, but mainly for use in the Novation Launchpad App... :)
This is the best occasion to express my gratitude to Rej and the SCS community. Caustic is the only way for me to put down my musical ideas. So I will never thank you enough for creating this all.
OMG, it is finally out :D Ugh, why did I decide to not check up on here yesterday or the day before that so I could see this? Oh yeah, I was too busy fooling around with Deflemask to notice, oops. What blasphemy ;)
My gut tells me, that this version might be it, if there is a 3.3, it will be minor app updates..... Mastering will push out in the near future, and I think future projects will move onto something different.
Mastering probably will be an important support for Caustic, that's for sure. But I do not understand your skepticism (or maybe it's just experience?) Of Caustic. In your Caustic 3.2 it is and will be the latest version. So you think the functions that we have asked will be included in a third app? Because? Caustic is pushed to its limits?
PS: I think (if I remember correctly) of a post, where Rej had written to a user, that he had already drawn up a list of future versions of Caustic: Caustic Caustic 3.3 and 3.4.
I'll maintain my last statement...... there typically isn't a x.4 version of an app. If there is a 3.3, I think that will be it. Meanwhile, I'm thoroughly enjoying what I have, and not worrying about future versions, there won't be anything big that will change at this point of the game.
No, you just think that will be added fewer features than the Mastering. I have many doubts about it, even if it is the fear of many. Caustic has reached the limit? It is too much to handle? 8 beta of 3.2 Caustic are a sign that unfortunately is full? Only God and Rej know.
I don't know personally, but I get the vibe that Caustic will remain as is, indefinately...... think about it....... we've been on this 3.2 testing route for nearly two years...... as well as other observations I've made..... I think the focus will be on Mastering at this point, and likely moving onto something completely different...... just a strong hunch of intuition and mental analysis of activities here over the past several years
I have talked to Rej personally, he can read this and agree that what happens in the next year or two with Caustic is what he decides to happen. Now that 3.2 is released he doesn't have this burden on his back, minus him wanting to make sure 3.2 is stable in the next months or so.
So officially, read the top thread, the answer is right there.
I'm just curious.... if Rej were to come on and say that absolutely this is it....no more updates...no bugfixes... would you (anyone) then give up on caustic and move on? I wouldn't. I will always own caustic as long as I can have a device that will run it.
I'm not speaking specific to anyone. My point is more directed at the idea that more will never be enough for some people even if what they've just been given might be more than what they wanted before.
Btw, you all have to understand the heart of a developer. Something like Caustic was a labor of love, really, anything started with that spark of an idea, that was not planed is one of the most powerful ideas in the universe, thus Caustic was born, thrived and continues to be majic to a lot of people.
Developers thrive on a feeling of discovery and achievement in their software, as with artists and musicians. Writers block comes in all forms, and when a developers heart is not into the code with that same spark, the fire dies and the vision ends.
There real interesting thing is that if a new fire is rekindled from a new spark of an idea, there is no stopping the developer from taking another journey into the unknown of creation.
I think Rej has pretty much stated, the initial spark of Caustic is out, what is unclear is where Rej might find inspiration next.
Mike, that's a great point to make, I find it staggering to think of Rej having the will and drive to keep the Caustic idea going for as long as he has, especially if you think of it being a creative endeavour. To sustain that creative spark for one particular idea is quite honestly outstanding. I have no further expectations, and do not want to put any further pressure on Reg in regards to Caustic, but will continue to enjoy it as long as I can...
Caustic is my to-go musical notebook since day1. I've tried lots of DAWs some big, some small. Why did I catch the Caustic train? Rej's dedication and awesome additions to a nice app? the friendly community? The app itself? The fact that I'm becoming older and love to keep things simple? It's mix of all. Don't know why I should leave it aside, if Rej decide to leave the "eternal update" run. It's still a damn good piece of software. I still run some old programs because they do one thing and do it well.
In this zapping era, the lifespan of an app (and not only apps...) is getting shorter. But the idea still remains. And when the idea has taken it's own life, let it grow. Caustic is a wonderful pocket workstation, let's make music with it. Music don't need update plans.
I don't mind if Caustic stay as it is now (no audio tracks for instance). The only thing that looks "unfinished" is the proper support of pitchbend (record and edit).
@Pquenin, You who he wrote it. And several times. You are good observers. However this all started because I simply responded to a user. Then me and @Jason we had an exchange of views. No need to make a controversy, no one wrote that Caustic stop here, it is obvious that this will not happen (unless it is not Rej to want it, if it were, would support his decision). All this is solely my fault. I did not believe that for giving an answer, I created this ruckus. I ask everyone humbly apologize. Next time I will be more cautious.
This speculation that this is the last release is silly. Even if Rej no longer is the developer there is a stable product with a large loyal userbase. If Rej decided enough of caustic coding there's many forward options available to allow to the continued development of it, with or without Rej at the helm.
That said... Its still not got a fricking unicorn button...
The Darker skin is missing the stereo output jacks on the Machine Input. The connections are there but the jack graphics are missing. I added them but the upper jack is a little low. Better than nothing.
I am so in love with Caustic after this update, it was great before, but on the limited real estate of a small touch screen, the scales features makes Caustic really shine. I swear, it is something like a harmonica for synth geeks. It's just wonderful.
Thanks Rej! Great update. So nice to be able to edit and loop stereo samples, and Modular's new stereo Machine Input module is an unexpected bonus. Your hard work is being appreciated by a LOT of people. Caustic is still my go-to music-making app, and for as deep and powerful Caustic is, it's still one of the most stable apps I use. Rarely crashes, if ever. Runs great on my older iOS devices and Windows. Starting up a new song and navigating around Caustic is just easy and comfortable, like a favorite pair of jeans. (Sorry, I got poetic there...). I know I'm biased, but there's a certain aesthetic funkiness to Caustic - the whole interface and workflow is great. Thanks again for the new features.
Forgive me if I'm missing something obvious, but where's the download link for Kindle Fire users? Amazon doesn't allow access to the Google Play store.
There is a god. Got the update. So pleased.
