Hi, if you are not familiar with this app you can read a summary here;

02-15-2017 Update to RC5
02-14-2017 Update to RC4
I have worked out most bugs, the UI might still have a few teaks but the functionality is stable, thanks to the beta testers that have been helping for 6+ months.
APK: .https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/109354749/caustic/apps/CausticGuide-...
If you want a Windows version, let me know and I will get you an account on my site for download.
Caustic Guide can;
- Create new empty Templates or a Template from an existing .caustic file, A Template is a proxy of a .caustic file with metadata. A Template holds other things as well like Remix Scenes and Clips etc.
- When choosing a .caustic file to create as Template, you can play the .caustic file in the browser real-time and look at another users' metadata they added.
- Export Templates as a .caustic file with metadata that shows in the popup when the Caustic App is opened.
- Batch export Caustic presets for each or selected machines.
- Batch export Sounds(complete machine state, preset, effects, mixer, pattern data, pattern automation, song pattern track, song piano roll, song automation.) Custom metadata can be applied to all Sounds before export.
- Export a Group of Sounds. This is 1..15 Sounds that are proxies for a full Caustic machine state as listed above.
When importing a .caustic file with Modulars that have MachineInput components, the Group export screen will list the master and slave relationships. Also, checking a Master will select all slave machine automatically for export in the group. - The classic example of the power of Group export is Jason's DSP kits, you can now import them into a new or existing .caustic file within seconds.
- Import Preset, Sound or Group into an existing Template. When importing, you will have the granular option of importing any piece of the Sound e.g. mixer, patterns automation etc that you will use.
- Plus more to come that is currently turned off right now.
This app is a workflow app, there are no games here. :) I am pretty sure a user is either going to get this app and see how they can incorporate it into their creative workflow or will be satisfied with Caustic's workflow.
The benefits of this app once you understand it only compound how powerful Caustic itself can be with sequencing and arranging. Caustic Guide allows you to share library items with others and build your own library of anything you can imagine.
I have basically broken up Caustic's file format into tiny pieces and allow you to save and reload at will all of those components
In the eternal words of Jason and Caustic, "What will you create?"

Beta videos
These are of the beta but most of the functionality still apply.
I think I'd have a job living without this app now. Highly recommended.
Do check it out.

For a lot of us.
Doin' music on mobile caustic was the solid beginning.
This caustic guide is an evolutionary beginning of involved refreshing beginning.
My person supports this too. But it is a learning curve.
@Derit Those 5 videos, if you take 40 minutes of your day, just once, I explain everything. It was beta videos and I wasn't as eloquent as I can be but if you watch the videos, take the time to watch every minute, you will understand what this app does and how to do it.
Have to agree essential app once you've used it.

Updated the expire date on the APK.
Mike, this is looking very cool, but i know you will have loads of testers, and plus the fact that i don't have any spare time to be honest, but as soon as it's released, I will be buy it for sure

Thanks Wellsley.
> but i know you will have loads of testers,
Actually it's pretty much tested by about 8 hard core users on and off. I'm pretty much ready to release it, just getting the boring stuff in order and closing a couple loose ends.
I mainly posted this so users could try it out.
It would be great to get some feedback from users who have never tried it thus far.
It so happens I am on my lunch break at the moment, I've downloaded it and had a qick look see. I have to ask a question which for me strikes immediately. I have to use glasses for reading, and have very recently had my eyes tested, and have my correct proscription (can you tell what I'm gonna ask yet) the script on your app is very small, I am struggling to read it...and the screen doesn't pinch in and out, sorry if this has been covered before

Yeah, this is because I use the same layout for phones and tablets but it can be setup easy.
Got to Settings > General > UI > Application Screen Scale.
Raise that value a .1 or two and go back out of Settings, the UI will scale up, then set to your preferred scale.
Ah silly me, got it, excellent, I 'm gonna have a look at it over the next couple of days, if and when i get a chance

The app is not responding. When I enter in to the app small menu shows up and then nothing. Blank screen. A minute later it writes that I need to force close the app.

Can you give me a screenshot of the small screen, that is the error stack trace. Should be an ok button to email it to me as well.
This is the first time something like this has happened when a user first starts the app.
As with Caustic 3.2, I understand the meaning of "beta tester" and the responsibilities attendant thereto, so I will not be grabbing this yet. But I'll certainly check it out once it's released.
Steph, it's not really beta, it's an RC, minus any weird bugs this is the release on Play. I am just amending a couple UI things.
Go for it, I am just curious of people's reactions to what it allows you to do with Caustic tracks.
@Mike, In the section Template, I miss the Scenes feature of Caustic Guide. It's a bug?

> In the section Template, I miss the Scenes feature of Caustic Guide. It's a bug?
No, that is an old beta video, it's turned off until Remix is released, if you guys keep beta testing Guide after it's release, then you can try it out with Remix.
Basically it will allow you to create Scenes and add Clips, name and color. Or edit Scenes from a Template created in Remix, then you can load that Template back into Remix for more edit, creation.
I will be there. I will continue to support you even after the release.
Mmh..ah, good. :)

Just in to deliver a comment. Thanks Derrti, for telling me this, and thank you Mike for making the app, looks interesting. I surely will watch the videos and check it out later, if it´s not too much to learn. :)

Thanks Britt, I am going to be making some fool proof videos in the next week for this app, use cases and such, not just tech jargon. :)
Britt, simply, it allows you to take any .caustic file and save out everything to put in a new or existing .caustic file. It is that easy, it allows you to create libraries of machines, groups of machines, reuse your beatbox patterns, automations, modular input groups, on and on.
I have a lot more functionality that is waiting for future releases that do more arcane things. :)
Thanks for giving me a simple explanation, Mike. I´ll watch the videos now. (And probably over again.. and over again.. and.. and..)

...
Edit a few minutes later: Wow, I understand this!

Hey Mike, managed to have a brief look at this. Firstly the concept of your app is fantastic, allowing a library of presets, sounds and groups, with all the added fx, and mixer settings, to be compiled and metadata added to the file, yeah I get it straight away. Actually my day job is working with files folders metadata, filling in attributes, etc, as I work with EDRMS, so Filing ,indexing, taxonomy all that stuff I can get, so now it's just a matter of familiarizing myself with the UI, good stuff

Nice, it's starting to click for some users now. :)
Yes, this app is taking Caustic from using a insertable floppy drive to a real hard drive with file system.
I know that change was hard for a lot of users back in the day but do you think they would ever go back? :)
The floppy drive is analogous to using a .caustic file to pass around everything. Now, you can make Sounds and Groups to pass around things and Templates that store even more information then a caustic file and actually store the .caustic file. :)
1.0.13-RC5 [02-15-2017]
I just tried it on my Note 4 (Android), and I like it. I just have to get used to the new way of working. It will be fun, I recommend this app - it´s super! :)
(does it work with Apple devices?)

No Apple at this time.
This is my latest video.
Woaw, this app looks fantastic, I have to give it a try... But I'm more on the PC than on Android

@pquenin I sent you and email to the one registered with this site.
Mike, thanks for the video(s) Makes it hard for us NOT to understand!
Thank you Mike, will check your email... In the meantime I have tried Caustic Guide on my Galaxy Tab 3 tablet and yeah, this is a fantastic tool... I have created and used templates, groups, sounds and presets... I had once a #3031 error if I remember well but no crash so far...
I don't understand why you can't save a group, sound or preset if a file with the same name already exist, maybe there is a setting for this, have to check this... Fantastic app !

> 3031
That is not a registered error number, so if you ever get it again or another popup, please let me know the number so I can check it or send me the email of the stack trace when it shows up, or at least write down the first sentence.
> I don't understand why you can't save a group, sound or preset if a file with the same name already exist
It depends where you are exporting form. If you are doing batch exports, yes I have a duplicate check but there are also settings for sub directory creation.
Let me know if this is where you are talking about, in that warning dialog, I thought I asked it you want to overwrite, if not I can add that.
1.0.14-RC6 [02-20-2017]
The create Template from .caustic file got some major work. Pretty powerful tool for just going through your caustic files and seeing what they are and listening to any tracked arrangements.
This Caustic Guide has become very useful for, thanks
