It's not often I feel like posting in here - I tend to leave it to power users like Paulovski, Skarabee, UncleAFX, SToons etc.
This is one of my WiP tunes that came from an experiment using Salsa rhythms in techno (there's almost nothing left of that experiment here in this file though).
What you've got is an interesting chain of sounds from the Viscodrum hi hats in the 2nd Beatbox to a Modular acting as an Exciter (and for the additional 2 FX slots) then acting as the Modulator for the Vocoder with a PCM Synth string patch as the Carrier for the Vocoder in place of the internal oscillators.
Finally there's another Modular acting as an Exciter for the Vocoder.
It's expensive - 5 slots for the overall effect (with another two slots occupied by a Beatbox and Bassline supplying beats and bass respectively, obvs.) but it sounds pretty awesome!
You should do it more often. You have proper skills.
Ha. The vocoder rocks. Get to know it :)

Dude that's awesome. I did a split second double take like, what, are these things about to start talking?

Well you should do it more often I think. And thanks for sharing the Caustic file. I think some people hold on to theirs like it's a Super Secret that will someday make them rich and famous. Who needs skills when they have a Magic Bullet?

This is awesome. It is a method I mentioned in SToons ring modulation discussions because Vocoder can do some similar things with the right carrier and modulation. However, you have used it in one of my favorite ways, using percussion as modulation. The more complex you create your chords and note movement, the more interesting the interaction with the percussion modulation. Very cool sound you got!

Nice one!
Who could imagine that after many years Caustic was still not fully explored. There are huges areas of sound jungle and cable spaghettis to conqueer!!!
This could desserve another forum section: Caustic Explorers
Congratulations, James, and welcome aboard!! ;)
If you change the Vocoder Modulator from the Viscodrum Beatbox to the Modular that's the Exciter for the Viscodrum, you get a very different but still effective sound.
The Vocoder is under used as a Machine - we've been asking for a Trancegate for ages and that's something the Vocoder can do quite easily.

And don't forget to put the vocoder in monophonic mode every now and again. Glide with drums is very good.

Ooh, I'll try that, thanks!

Old track with Beatbox / Vocoder Gate.
In the vein of Leftism era Leftfield.

Hey James, I enjoyed Shimmy a lot! The bass lines were great fun. I like what you did with Vocoder. I attached a snippet from one of my tracks with all percussion, bass, strings, and extras stripped away. All you have is the vocoder and its inputs, so it is a bit bare without the supporting instruments but this way you can hear just the vocoder sounds. I layered 5 beatboxes through a modular to act as the modulation for the vocoder and use a chorus for the carrier. There are some similarities.

Ooh, look forward to taking a look. I'm going to experiment with using the Vocoder as Trance gate too.

Great thread guys, but there's too many cool ideas and not enough time in a day.
