Personal Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is Chin Liang. This is a self introduction, as well as me wanting to seek some advice.

I like music.

(Yes, I know, this is probably just gonna be another cliche introduction, but please bear with me...)

I used to be a guitarist, self-taught and not that experienced, but I enjoyed spending hours just playing random notes and attempting songs that I like.
But I had to stop. I faced some financial difficulties as well as various issues. I had to give up my dream of becoming a musician. Heck, I had to give up alot of things in life because of something that happened... they say that life is filled with ups and downs, and this is the downest of the down.

To cut things short, it has been a rollercoaster ride. Since then, it has been about five years.
Five long years, I've been wandering around like a lost old fool. Until, I chanced upon Caustic. It piqued my interest, and I've decided to play with it a little while to pass time. Little did I know, it awakened some sort of the lost spark that I had within me. I had so much fun playing around with it, and listening to the tune I've made little by little, always put a smile on my face.

Thinking back, I felt like I've made the wrong choice. However, it also felt like I've made the right choice. Whichever path I chose to take will definitely be filled with regrets. But, I'm not young anymore. I don't want to continue wandering around like a lost clown. I WANT to do something that I enjoy everyday for years to come, and also to make a living out of it. I know that you can't have everything that you want in life, I know that, for the past five years or so, but at least I want to try before it is too late. The spark that have awakened in me... I just realized I love putting sounds together, piecing the different sounds of various instruments together. I did not realize all of this is possible alone, until I found Caustic. I want... to make a living as a music composer... is that the right term?

And here is where I ask for advice... is it possible to make a living as a "music composer"? How do I go about doing it?
Where can I share my music... without fear of getting it "stolen"? (copyright issues?) Any advice to someone new to this scene?

Any form of help or advice is much appreciated... even if nothing comes out of it, I just feel so much better sharing this... Thanks for taking the time to read it.

My name is Chin Liang, I guess this is my "last hurrah"... before I turn into a mundane human being.

Thank you.

Obviously it is possible to

Obviously it is possible to make a living as a music composer, there are many people that do. To make a good living you need to be very good.

There are a number of platforms, Soundcloud, Bandcamp, SongTradr, youtube etc that will allow you to get exposure and get your music out there. Furthermore, pimp yourself out, go to appropriate forums for your type of music...

That said, don't expect much! There's a lot of people out there doing exactly this, and if you've got money to market yourself and buy exposure to give yourself a bigger audience then hurray! Otherwise, it's very much a slow burn.

Alright, thank you so much

Alright, thank you so much for the reply! I guess I would just have to get really good then. I'm not that good yet, but I will get there one day. It is very important to me that I get to that point soon. To be honest, I do not have to make a good living, as long as I can survive while doing what I enjoy most... would make me very happy. Also, I'm not a very confident person, but I guess I'll have to believe in myself and start uploading something, regardless of what opinions I may get...

I just checked out the pages you have mentioned, and they seem like a good start. I also checked out your Soundcloud. It's not exactly my genre, but it's interesting to listen to what others have made... I enjoyed the one titled "Forty Five Years", probably because it is Pop...
I think I will start with a Soundcloud account. Personally, I'm not exactly an outgoing person, but I can make an effort to talk to people, but my social skills are... I would say, below average, hah.

Well, I would like to expect much from it, but having experienced what I had over the past few years... like you said, I won't be expecting much. But, I will persevere.. it's better than to have regrets later in the future.

Anyway, thanks for reading through my story. I've always kept to myself, but I've decided to just let loose just this once. I feel much better now, like I have a sense of direction now. I guess what I wrote is some sort of a self-reflection...?
I have many questions regarding building a brand for myself and safe guarding it, but I guess that can wait.. First, I'll start uploading my first track on Soundcloud and see how things go!

I know it sounds inexperienced, but I'm hoping to hear some positive feedbacks. Thanks!

Looking forward to making more soundtracks...

Seems to have a few echos of Pachelbel's Canon in D. Some of the sounds appear distorted, but this might be what you're going for. If not, have you taken a look at the mastering app yet? If not, you should!

Anyway, not bad for a first track.

Hi! Indeed, I was inspired by Pachelbel's Canon in D! The distortions are intentional, however I faced some difficulties such as trying to get some clear balanced sounds, and had to tinker with the settings within Caustic. I will check out this mastering app, perhaps it will make things easier for me.

Thanks!

I still have alot more to learn! I've only seen the basic tutorial, and got too excited and started making my first track and kinda skipped alot of technical stuff...

Hey animeforthewholelife,

Hey animeforthewholelife, thanks! No matter what, I won't give up... not this time.

Glad you enjoyed it! Makes me happy that others liked what I did. I wasn't so sure about it myself, but I'm glad I've decided to just give it a shot.

Well, look forward to another piece soon! I'll do my best to produce another enjoyable piece!
