Mekanism rocks, I love the guitar, sounds soooo sweet.

Very well done, sounds professional.

What exactly did you use caustic for? Sequencing?

Hey guys,  I really

Hey guys,  I really appreciate the positive comments.

I wanted to point out that I did a demo version of the song months ago that was only done with Caustic so you can check that out on Soundcloud if you are curious.

I did not export midi from Caustic on this one but exported the wav files for each instrument and imported them into Reason.  It was sequenced both in Caustic and Reason and the bass, guitar and P6 lead were added in Reason.

I am enjoying using Caustic to sketch songs out and then either exporting midi and/or wav, importing that into Reason and trying to finish the tracks.

I am really looking forward to Caustic 3.  The more "on the go" and "in bed" music production I can do, the better.

So stoked about the ability to add more machines.

Cheers!

I think you'll be pleasantly

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much you can do in Caustic now without resorting to desktop DAW's - you'll still want to use an external DAW if you're adding real instruments or other things that require the sheer grunt/power that desktop software gives you BUT...the quality of what you'll do in C3 means that you shouldn't have to drop down into another DAW every time.

Android really has a contender to compete with iOS and Windows now.

I cannot get over that Strat

I cannot get over that Strat sound and the very subtle bend you have in it.

Do you have Pink Floyd influences?

Mekanism I have listened to 10+ times and counting. Its right up my alley of techno with that damn sweet guitar!

Kinda Twin Peaks... cheeky

Bipidribait,

Bipidribait,

I was just happy about more machines being available per track but once I saw the FM synth and the Pad synth as well as the mastering tools I decided to download the Alpha and start playing around with it.  I intent to take any Caustic track I am working on to as close to a "finished" state as possible prior to mastering.

I typically use Caustic for sketches, Reason for most of the sequencing, EQing, additional instrumentation and mixing and finally Audition to for fades/silence and the iZotope plugin for master tests.  The midi export in Caustic 2 was a little buggy but I dealt with it and from what I have read from Rej this has been addressed.

I think I own a couple Pink

Mike,

I think I own a couple Pink Floyd vinyl albums when they were more of a Psychedlic band with Sid.  I do like the production work Alan Parsons did on the DSOTM and think Gilmour is a great blues guitarist.  I sort of felt the guitar on Mekanism had a Robbie Blunt vibe going on with it.

I backed the strat guitar sections on the verse with some humbucker and a little gain to thicken it up and try and let it sit in the mix more like a rhythm guitar and let the (strat only) cleaner chorus tone shine a bit more in contrast.

For the guitar effects I used a pretty wet signal from the delay and some ducking with a longer feedback so the repeats were not as apparent but the notes would sound full and spread out and added a wet reverb effect to the clean guitar strums on the chorus to for the long smeary tremolo trails.

I was also playing around with the vocoder in Reason and came up with a sound that reminded me of creepy GLaDOS in Portal and added that on the long fade out ending.

Cool to hear the song clicked with someone.

Got any Twin Peaks links?  I am not familiar.

It more bass guitar in the beginning http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYIvbZ5MffU

But for some reason your track reminded me of it, just the "atmosphere".

If you click through that 50 minutes, you will here the "chorus strat" in there.

Yeah I am a huge fan of late

Yeah I am a huge fan of late seventies to early eighties sci-fi.  Was considering using some Logan's Run or THX 1138 footage.

If you are a guitar gear guy, check out the work I did to the guitar and amp.  I have it posted on my youtube as well.  I spent over a month modifying my cheap gear to make it sound as good as possible prior to recording.  I have photos and sound tests on there.  It made all the difference.

I think the width you are describing is the mixed signal wet/dry reverb.

Check this thing out.

WOW, that is a huge sound for the strat, love it. Are you saying you have the pedal or your sound is acheived in a similar way?

I am using a software reverb

I am using a software reverb module to acheive the same result.  I saw these vids with huge ambient reverb and then took my guitar track that was recorded with tape delay, tube preamp and slight compression and laid it in a deep pool of wet reverb.

I can get a very similar result to these pedals but I think I am going to need to get one at some point.

I love the sound, I will have

I love the sound, I will have to experiment some time with my Les Paul and see what I can come up with along these lines.

I think that is why I love this song so much, it is something I would play if I had the right gear and setup sitting in front of me, kids back in 1999-2000 changed my whole gear setup. :)

I am just now getting back into my music slowly.

I also think paritally why

I also think paritally why that ambient wet reverb effect works so well with electronic music is because the long reverb trails actually sound like a synth.

I stay at home and work so, it has been even more interesting, I have a 13 and 14.

Programming caustic things with the core and trying to market them in 2014 is the funnest thing I have done since 2002. :) With Caustic Live for free and the Groove Station app(step sequencer chain), I think caustic was my savior in programming. hehe

FYI, I develop software at home myself (C++,Qt).

I have been tempted to see what you guys are doing...

Well I wish sometimes I knew

Well I wish sometimes I knew C++ but that is for next year. :) This is all in Java and its just one guy right now, me.

https://github.com/teotigraphix/CausticSDK

Basically in a nut shell, anything you can do in Caustic, Rej and I have OSC commands for, synths, sequencer, effects etc are all controllable from the Application layer in Java.

It can even work on the desktop for testing. I use an OpenGL abstraction layer in Java for the graphics.

Really, I have put almost 2 years into this framework and you could create any type of sequencer, synth combo you wanted and save or load caustic files and presets.

I'm only getting started.

I was shocked how much new

I was shocked how much new functionality is being introduced into Caustic 3.  Caustic 3 is way ahead of the game compared to the other apps in this category (even on iphone).

It will be interesting if the new version gets the props it deserves.

Keep on the Caustic projects Mike.  The future looks bright.
