I thought of a couple today that I hadn't read here.
To make automation recording a little more precise, temporarily change the tempo to a slower BPM while recording.
when finished, put it back to the right tempo and check your work. I also find that muting some tracks while recording automation helps me focus if I am trying to do something complicated.
jblann1 has some really good tips here on using samples and loops, and it has inspired me to me to start work on a track that is pretty much all loops.
I've been loading up a beat box with some loops of beats.
Usually I make the loops in my DAW and save them in the correct tempo/key then put it on my android device for use in Caustic.
But
If you load a loop that isn't pitched (say a percussion track) in the beat box , and it isn't the exactly right tempo, you can use the 'tune knob' to adjust the tempo get the beat to line up correctly. It's a little tricky but if you are patient it works.
psssst. syncing loops in PCMSynth is soooo much easier..... but don't tell anybody
agreed jblann1! i was just trying to show that it is possible as an alternate method.
Understood... more than one way to skin a cat as they say around here .... not that I endorse such activity :)
Hmm, I know I say to my kids, there is more than one way to get to the top of a mountain. But the cat analogy is definitely more graphic visually.
Its just what i always heard.... sorry, must be Ohio lingo.... i like the mountain version better.
The original full quote is quite different than what most people say, and meant something like:
'this didn't work so move to plan B'.
(this is assuming that Ancient Ohioans didn't invent the first version
besides........... no mountains in Ohio so why WOULD they say: "more than one way to get to the top of a mountain"?????.)
this is from Wiki:
A Dictionary of American Proverbs (1996) lists several variations:
There's more than one way to skin a cat without tearing the hide.
More than one way to kill a cat besides choking him with butter.
More than one way to kill a cat besides skinning him.
More than one way to skin a cat.
There are more ways than one to kill a cat.
There are more ways to kill a cat besides choking him to death.
There is more than one way to kill a cat.
There is more than one way to kill a cat besides choking him on cream.

and now we are completely OT!
Good stuff there! Ha! Cant say I didnt learn.something today....... oh yeah, the Ohio mountains.......ehem cough
> no mountains in Ohio so why WOULD they say: "more than one way to get to the top of a mountain"?????
They probably don't since jblann used the cat saying, I said I used the mountain and I have also used the cat analogy. That's a pretty universal saying. I was just being sarcastic.
The real question is why the "cat". Since you could replace cat with anything in those phrases, must be the farm cats they are talking about in Ohio. ;-)
Mike
Well There are Mountain Cats...
Oh Wait!
back On Topic for a minute!
I just remembered why I started using Beat Box to load samples.
Because you can pan the samples individually.
I was experimenting with taking a stereo sample, split the stereo channels to two mono
.wavs and pan hard and pan hard L-R.
Pretty Cool.
