I do most of my automaton in step record only cause still have not watch any other caustic video on automation either way! Win u go & u got a soirée of instruments (( and for some reason u don't start with same instruments but u end up with the same machines just variations ((( it happens alot with me cause the blending palette is there!!! ))))
Anyway!!! I'm going thru lookin for the proper machine to edit what sounds off lil or tweek in someway. But i spend more time in reviewing what i just mixed or listen two over and over! But it's not easy two go thru the machine in different order than the straight order.
I hope u guys understand the problem.
"I hope u guys understand the problem"
No. I just can understand the last sentence...Sorry; I'm only French ;-)
press record in song mode hit your target stop recording and then go to the sequencer hit the top left button twice (the one with 12 squares) then scroll through with the button next to it to find your controls and tweak to your liking this makes for a much easier job automating with a lot more control :)
i've only discovered this in the project i'm working on now i hope this helps..
I'm English and likewise, only understand the last sentence.
We've said this before, can you please try and construct your posts a little clearer. There are many people on this forum where English is their second language and get their points across clearly. We're not after the Queens English here, but just and get your thoughts in order first before hitting the keys, you'll find you will get a much more positive response.
My latest track on show and tell
My Soundcloud page
And yes i do find automation quite frustrating but a lot less now with this method ..
Frustration with automation = being new to Caustic + "still have not watch any other caustic video on automation"
Yeah, I don't get it ... why not watch the video? Are you on dial-up?
At least make the effort to find out what it can and can't do before venting about frustrations...
If it is the sequencer piano roll thing... I haven´t quite figured it all out myself yet, but I will, with a little more patienence.. I have to watch the videoes over and over again. It doesn´t come easy to me, and I don´t expect it to do so. Little by little, and over time I understand some more of the stuff "under the surface" - and WOW! Am I thrilled when that happens!!
I have to do things several times, and take notes (I have a tiny, tiny analog notebook! ). It´s like going to back to school, in a great way because I want really much to be good at using this wonderful tool we have here. I the mean time, while studying to masterdom, I carry on making music. Sometimes I do it well, sometimes I really suck. But hey, even The Beatles had periods of suckiness on their way to stardom. :)
And yes.. Sometimes I´m frustrated too, but it passes.
Shine on, folks.
i know how two basicially use it. but if, i'm in sequencer.... and i'm automating a trk after i have step record. and i go and adjust volumes mannually!! the wrap-around reach-around of the beginning of the project of machines verses the middle or end. as nothing two do with my english. but thanz dubstylez
inna nutshell.... i wanna bypass groing thru the whole list of machines if i'm in adjust mode of trks.
i make majority of my trks 1st!! i can deal with my garbage if it's not quite right and i adjust from there. if i made it all the way two a solid 7 or 8 trks i like i'm ready to master what i have. but if i gotta go thru so much and can't bypass for sake of time..... come on!!
But there´s a mixer too, Derrit, you can knob till you drop. You press record, and then you turn the knobs.
And the mastering. Same thing there, but I prefer to do the mastering before recording.
What I do (if I need to twist effects): I record several times and twist the knobs.
I don´t know if this was helpful, but I hope so.
So many think I not watch a video..... Shame on ya'all!
I've just only really re-watch a key spot i lost too much info from one watch. At this point of these videos u gotta stop the videos and apply. If not as u watch but if u do so while watching, u not watching a video at all now are u? Way too time consuming.
Sooooo i take my time. Processing what i know. filtering what should be a simple plug and play. Then key details missed; go over it!
but i do mostly mix-automations not machine automation ((( my weakness yes it is. Fine detail a trk needs alot to make it solid and grinding on a short leash of not many machines why automate in my book, unless the whole thang, and really get serious about the trk!
I currently was questioning my own failure for labeling my machines. But still!!! Now i have the labels and i know both styles of automation doing a rotatory dial-up for mix-automation ((( u got more than 9 machine's only 14 slots gets tired and makes for lazy production real quick! )))) This is what i mean by automation is frustrating.
You said in your first post that you haven´t seen a single video about your issue with automation ("cause still have not watch any other caustic video on automation") . That´s the reason why I thought you should do that..... It´s some double communication going on here, and that´s confusing.
Anyway, don´t play the "shame on you" game with me. That´s a waste of time, because I will never be ashamed with trying to help you.
One other thing I want to say to you, in a nice way:
In order to make your post more understandable - try to write as correct as possible (I know you can), ´cause none of us are mind readers, and there´s lot of people here to help you. In change of that you need to type an understandable language, because the stuff are so complex and technincal.
I´m sure you would (and me) be better off if you do that. How you write outside the Forum, it´s solely your business - but here, where you are not alone, you have to be gentle to us by helping us understand you, and you will get much nicer and fullfilling answers to.
I don´t think that writeing as proper as you can will disturbe you in being you. But it will make it so much easier for us here in the forum to understand what you mean.
Stay safe, and have a nice day! :)
All the best!
Automation is not bad just time consuming I usually pump out a full track in about 2 hours but with automation it takes about 4
I must ask what is your first language the wording of your sentences is strange for English
First. Take a breath. Watch the video, Rej explains each feature in a very simple and visual fashion. And experiment and learn how it works, don't bother with the editor until later, when you better understand the concept.
In short, practice makes perfect.
Wow, really? My first track took weeks, and my current project doesn't seem to be progressing any faster.
i do a trk it takes about two months. i think istrugglin' on other levels then any of u. and it only two months for a half of a trk. :(
but i do over a load about 25 beginning ideas a month.
If you have problems with your gear, or need to go other places to work, I can understand why it takes so long, Derrit.
Have you tried the Loopstack software? There you can humm sketches and ideas, since you have a new idea almost every day.
Then, I wonder if you need to structure yourself and your work.
You can start with writing a pointlist of what is buggering you, and think about what you can do with it, how you can make your creative life and workflow better.
I have this feeling that it is not only the technical things that bother you. Why don´t you tell us a little about your work/music life situation, because this would be so much easier for us to understand.
This forum is full of great and heart warm people. We wouldn´t be nothing but supportive if we understood more of what´s your obstacles.
Have a good night, and stay safe.
Dat's the point mrs. Britt. It ain't nothing but raw energy. I'm either destine for greatness or great failure. Either way my path has grrrrreat in it. Can't express what won't be short.
Hi there, Derrit!
In general: When you try to focus on creating music or doing any other work - are your thoughts wandering everywhere, so you lose your concentration? (I ask because I care and want to understand what´s going on.)
If you think I´m too nosy, tell me to shut up. (Or, I prefer "Thanks for asking, Mrs. Britt, but shut up, please.")
Our friend here Derrit ain't illiterate, he's most likely just stoned to shit.
Oh, and it's not fucking Derrit, it's derrti.
Haaa the old Automation frustration ! lol
The thing with automation is its where all the finer details are created ' so i guess at times its gonna be a little frustrating ...
even if the POPE is bangin_out some D&Bass or Dubstep using Caustic or what ever ' he too would get FRUSTRATED IN_IT ;)
I just wanna say that i think the automation is pretty solid on caustic, there is just a lot to doing automation in any interface.
To echo a lot you, practice makes perfect and derrti you totally have the right idea.watch the tutiorial, pause it, play with your track, keep going back and forth as needed.
I wanted to add, Derrtiblu, that it may seem to you people replying to you are trying to show off or school you but that is really not the case; we are all trying to help, no one is against you.
The real issue here is that i think 80% of what you write is impossible to understand. If you could repsect that a lot of us taking time to help you are pretty old and have lots of responsibilies outside of this forum; children, long hours at work etc., so for us to take time to respond to you means we are taking time away from the limited time we have to make our own music; and we are glad to but i would repectfuly ask if you could take the time to be as clear as possible in your posts to help us. I know there is/ are language issues and it can be frustrating for you.
Maybe try using a list like this:
1) this is my problem
2) this is what i tried to do
3) what do you suggest i do?
Stupid example but you get it and it would be a good way to avoid confusion.
Edited this, redeading was probably the more fitting yet unintentional way to reply. Bunch of goobly gook.
Ha, sorry for typos, at work on lunch break, back to work now, no time to edit.
Actually, there's a very simple solution that Rej could implement that would make most or all the automation frustrations go away forever.
But, since there is democracy in the Feature Request forums like everywhere else in this fucking country, everybody is too busy voting themselves for fucking presidents.
doomer, you are an angry little raccoon ... not criticizing, because I totally relate.
A reply to the topic starter: What you have is a musical syndrome.
The side-effects are:
Now that list is few of the possible side-effects. I made it up.
Then give me a fucking vote. The sooner people realize that point-and-click automation editing is only effective when you have a mouse at your disposal , the sooner Rej will make all our lives easier. A more effective system for touchscreens that will snap the points exactly where you want them to (instead of just having you make endless random attempt at bullzeyes) like the one I proposed needs to climb up his priority list, or hell will never cease.
Wrong, what he has is bipolar syndrome.
I don't use a point and click automation. I'm like you, and it was too imprecise for me. I use a cut and paste method instead, and it works great for me. Why change the program, when there are a myriad of work arounds? If you want it bad enough, with this program you can make it happen.
And, btw, this isn't a democracy. It is more like a benevolent dictatorship. Rej listens, and puts in what he has time for. I have been frequently impressed by what ideas Rej takes time to put in, that I thought there was already a way to do through a work-around.
But the solution I propose is so simple and efficient, that I doubt it would ruin the program in any way, on the contrary. Not to mention that it would, indeed, make work with automation at least 5 times faster. It's impossible for you not to see how this could help! The possibilities that it would open! For example, if you could pin the points exactly on the graph, you could compute improvised exponential curves by hand, and then input them one by one on the graph precisely, thus removing the necessity of implementing any real curves functionality in the future, which would no doubt put a lot of pressure on the CPU of a 50$ piece of shit phone when better thing were to be done with said CPU. Forget drawing expo curves by hand, it's impossibly slow, let alone anywhere near perfect. Work-arounds and copy-paste methods simply don't work when you have very complex and lively automation to do.
This is just one of the many examples, btw. Rej, I really hope you read this. Drawing by hand is fucking hard!
But the programming of it is easy?
Take a guess...
I haven't hit any insurmountable obstacles yet, and I have some serious compositional ambitions. The biggest hurdle I had (odd-time signatures) had a solution already implemented (piano roll step sequencer); I just wasn't aware that it was there. I really have no complaints about Caustic 3 in its current state. It's worth at least three times what I paid for it.
Admittedly, placing automation events is easier on my 10.1 tablet than on my 7.0, but I manage.
