This topic was covered a while back but there are some new members & new introductions by us would be cool, I'm curious how much of the globe is represented here. My name is Andy, I'm technically 34 (21-23 in maturity) and from San Diego, California USA. I grew up in San Diego County in a beach town called Encinitas, but have lived & travelled in St. Louis, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Orange County here in the U.S., Morelia, Michoacan in Mexico, and all over Europe. For college I attended Academy of Art in San Francisco, but dropped out after 3 years, $100k and a whoooole lotta fun. I work in the art department of a publishing company, and also am working on a video-sharing website called Webisota. Plus I do freelance art & occasional custom car audio system design & install. Creating music & drawing/ design are my main hobbies, but I also play guitar, write, read a lot & work on cars. And movies.... I'm into movies. I love industrial, breakbeat, downtempo, drum & bass, 80's synth, as well as many other types of electronic music. I also like old skool rock & metal, 80's-90's rap music and odd stuff like Beck.
Who's next?
I'll play again:
I'm Jason M Blann, 38, grew up mostly in the awesome USA state of Ohio, wife from south Russia (Black Sea) but you wouldn't know it, cuz she spoke fluent English since she was 12 yrs old, two amazing bright girlies 3 and 8, I can speak some Russian говорит по русский and Filipino(Tagalog) masaya kang magsalita ng tagalog but I forgot 3 years of french decades ago... I grew up around computer and networking hardware and building, excercise my 2nd Amendment rights enjoying the shooting sport (well when the current ammo drought ends of course lol) I, Obviously enjoy music of many types, including playing actual instruments (Keyboard, drums, some stringed, some brass) as well as studio and live field work (I love mixing and handling live audio), working and training vocalists and recording them, and of course my work here with the Caustic App is quite enjoyable as well. Oh, and I don't like to be "normal" haha...
Alrighty then who's next???
Hey cool, I can read/ write Cyrillic! Only speak & actually understand a little Russian though. I used to be pretty good when I was a teenager, I went there for 6 months.

I took six months of it from a prof at UC in Cinci before my first trip there, spent a total of 2.5 months there..... I tell you is a learning experience I wish every American would witness... Long story short about that. My wife and I met while she was here in the USA, on a school visa, had to return to RU for 2 years, I was able to visit there twice during that period..... yeah it wasn't easy, but we are coming up on our 14th Anniversary, so I guess that says something...
The Tagalish? I'm learning from a good friend of mine, who she and much of her family camae from the Philippines..... for some reason I found the language quite fascinating from a mathmatical or audiophonic perspective, I just took off with it, and she been teaching me.... we talk to each other at work with it, its really cool.
I'm from Gothenburg, Sweden, age is 38 and my name is Niclas. I bought my first vinyl in 1984 (I still have all my vinyls, neatly tucked away in the garage since I don't have a player at the present). It was Speak&Spell with Depeche Mode and I've been hooked ever since. So I guess it's quite obvious where I got the name ice machine from. DM is one of the few groups from which I still by albums on CD. I've got a fantastic wife and two boys.
I've loved music all my life especially electronic stuff; DM, JMJ, Kraftwerk, Psyche, 242, Nitzer Ebb, VNV Nation, Sisters of Mercy to mention some. But I do enjoy a variety of other music like Rage Against the Machine, Smiths, Prodigy, Cure, Joy Division and Public Enemy. I've seen most of these groups live but one of my greatest musical experiences was when I saw Kraftwerk live in a small arena in the south of Sweden in 1991. When they handed out pocket calculators to let the audience play was marvelous!
I like skiing, swimming, photography and being outdoors. I've travelled around quite a lot and have stayed for 3 months in Malaysia and 6 months in Australia. I started out my professional career as a programmer, but nowadays I work mostly within automotive and telecom doing various stuff except programming.
Found Caustic through a friend and I was instantly seduced. Caustic has been a great way of being able to release some of the music that has gathered in my head over the years.
Who's next?
Well, here's the link to the last round, plenty of intros and facts in there:

Good initiative Andy,
I guess I should have introduced myself when I joined the community but it’s never too late. My name is Patrick Nylen and I live in Sweden, in a small town called Torshälla. In age I beat Andy by a few months. Well maybe not just a few, the 65 in my nick is my year of birth. As a hatchling I liked to draw a lot and so did my brothers and sisters, kids need credits for the things they do so signing the work was very important for me. Well I wasn’t the only kid in the family with a name starting with ‘P’ so to get a unique signature I started to put in the second letter from my first name and that’s what Pan is all about. As a teenager I read everything I could get my hand on about archaeology and mythology and in the greek mythology I found a half-god with the same name, a manlike creature with horn and legs of a goat (doesn’t that description sound familiar?). Well as a fearsome headbanger with long hair, leather and spiky rivets I found it being a suitable artist name and I’ve used it ever since.
I make my living as an employee of Volvo Construction Equipment, manufacturing wheel loaders and articulated haulers. I’ve had a few roles in that company, some more interesting than others but it keeps the money flow in to my account.
In my spare time I like to develop software, most of the time I’m only testing theories and get bored as soon as a theory gets confirmed. Usually I do my testings with Visual Basic and Excel a powerful combination, but I use other languages to like Pearl for server-sides, and Java for android.
Oh! I almost forgot, I’m interested in music to (surprise). My main instrument is the guitar but I’ve been playing bass in most of my bands. Back in the late 80’s / early 90’s I had my own studio and a lot of instruments but then I met my wife and had two kids (a boy and a girl), there was a period when our economy was really bad and I had to sell of most of my stuff. Nowadays you get better quality with computers and it’s a lot cheaper too. My list of musical preferences and inspirations is too long to put here but those of you heard my tracks so far already know I don’t like to get stuck in any specific genre.
In maturity I would say I’m something between 8 and 80 years old, sometimes I’m feeling really old and tired but when I get a new toy to play with (like Caustic) I become a kid again. Most of the time I’m happy with my age though, life has never been easier than it is to day.
Well ladies and gentlemen, who’s to be shaved next?
Two from Sweden! That's one place I didn't get to go & wish I had. At one point I did have a Saab 900 Turbo coupe, which was a killer car (aside from a turbo that repeatedly scrorched the bearings in molten turbo oil, forcing me to continuously bring it to a repair shop that was almost as far away as Sweden itself and just as expensive as making the trip anyways)

Yeah that sounds like a Saab. If you want swedish quality you go for Volvo, boring but reliable and safe. I would recommend it as a family car.
So two from Sweden and two from USA, there got to be other countries represented here. Don’t be shy, like Andy I’m very curious about where you live and who you are. Enter the stage and get your moment of glory
read the link I posted, we all went a few months ago...
I gotta say there are a few hot Volvo's out there now... I saw a brand new hardtop-convertible Volvo with a turbocharged 5-cylinder & 6-speed manual transmission. And it was beautiful. Looking at it I thought to myself "I could get pretty irresponsible with this thing and still be very safe"
The only gripe I have with Volvo/ Saab is that they are front-wheel drive (unless you get the AWD option available on some). If you've only driven front-wheel-drive cars, even sporty ones, and one day you get behind the wheel of a rear-drive car such as a BMW, you instantly feel why it's so much more pleasing to drive. All the tension of constantly having to make minute corrections to the steering wheel to maintain the direction you want to go disappears. Steering is now a relaxed, effortless action. Instead of fighting gravity in every turn, you're gracefully pushed through them; instead of braking through a curve, the car begs you to power through it with more gas pedal. I think Volvo would have a major hit with a rear-drive T5 sports coupe, and could easily contend with BMW's 3-series coupe with such a car.

I've been absent working on compilers HTML5/JavaScript and very dry boring stuff, I always read these forums threads.
Andy said the one thing that made me login and post, ah..... The BMW rear wheel drive seriously lets the steering wheel do the driving.
Thanks Andy, you made me remember my 320i again, brings tears to my eyes (at 130mph with the windows down and sun roof open) :)
Mike
I was reminded of the front-drive issue recently when I borrowed my mom's '06 Acura RSX-S while my BMW was being worked on. Don't get me wrong it's a nice car with respectable sports-coupe horsepower but the difference in handling between the two is fundamentally at odds. Here's a little blurb on the pro's and con's of front wheel-drive and rear wheel-drive cars:
The RSX-S (like almost every Honda/ Acura) is front-driven by a transverse-mounted 2 litre engine. It has 200hp and will handle the twisties fine, but like all 200+ hp front-wheel drive cars it has considerable torque steer (pulls to whichever side the engine is mounted on during hard acceleration) and the slightly assymetrical power to the two front wheels needs constant, although barely noticeable, minute corrections by the driver to maintain a straight path (If you have a front-drive car, pay attention the next time you drive- you'll notice your hands constantly making tiny adjustments in the steering, probably without even noticing it). This creates natural tension in handling the wheel. In tighter turns I felt gravity pulling me sideways and felt the car become slightly top-heavy as the front wheels pulled me through. The RSX can negotiate tight turns and grip the road just fine but to me the feeling of it was unpleasant. Like my old Saab and other front-drive cars I've previously owned, it felt like a minor chore. Gas mileage was great considering the surprising power of it's little 4-cylinder. At freeway speeds the ride was a bit unsettling as any bump or dip in the road caused a little jerk to either side, again an issue with FWD since you're steering the wheels that are being driven by the engine and that assymetrical torque is felt whenever a front wheel dips below the other- like in a pothole or over a bump The root of this issue is that since the engine is sideways with the crank exiting to one side, the two shafts driving the right & left wheel are different lengths. Since one is longer, slightly less torque is delivered to the wheel connected to it. Modern FWD cars have corrective differentials which even out the power so both sides get equal power, but it can never fully be corrected because of the different shaft lengths- in effect, extreme application of power in hard acceleration or hard jolts from bumps will cause torque steer.
In rear-drive cars, the engine is longitudally-mounted in the dead-center of the engine bay which drives a shaft lengthwise down the middle of the chassis and forms a "T" at the rear with the axle. The length of each axle shaft branching out to either wheel is identical. This combined with the fact that you're steering the front wheels which spin free without power to them makes driving a rear-driven car a whole different experience. Trucks and older rear-drive cars don't have stiff, sporty suspension so the handling/ grip isn't wonderful but RWD sports cars handle like butter. You feel the push from the rear and total control of the front wheels- you feel like you're being "thrown" into turns and applying more power only makes it grip harder. It's the difference of being forced forward vs. being towed from the front.
However, front-drive cars are more practical for the casual driver, the city and family cars. The engine placement allows more passenger room in the cabin and a shorter hood, which makes sense in terms of parking ease in the city. Plus they are easier and cheaper to build. The advantages of RWD would mostly appeal to the driving enthusiast.
Still, every person should experience both at some point. If you haven't already, don't pass up an opportunity to drive a fast RWD car such as an Infinity G37 or a new Camaro/ Mustang/ Challenger or especially any BMW or Porsche if you get the chance. You might fall in love.

Originally from the Jersey Shore area 1978-1996.... No one had any idea what that meant until the stupid MTV show came out. Went to Penn State University for two semesters then transferred to University of Florida. I lived in North County San Diego (Solana Beach and Leucadia) for five months in 2000-2001 - so hi five on that Andy Bones.
But I have remained in Gainesville, FL almost exclusively since moving back from San Diego.
I seem to be more curiousity driven than career/family driven...... so I work as a restaurant delivery driver for chump change and then come home and contemplate music, computers, science fiction, cooking, etc.
Haha! Hell yeah... I lived in Leucadia (the beach area of Encinitas) from the time I was born until age 18! I lived first on Grandview St. right at the water, then on Passiflora just east of the train tracks/ Coast Highway by the Tortilla Flats. From 1993-97 my friends & I caused all manners of trouble all down the Coast Highway, stealing booze from liquor stores, getting wasted & painting graffiti. The Encinitas Sheriff's Office formed a task force just to crack down on my circle of friends, no joke! A lot of my cohorts lived in Solana Beach & Del Mar, so we got into quite a bit of trouble there as well. The good old days, when life was all about loitering at the beach, drinking, smoking, eating shrooms, doing ecstasy, hooking up with the local girls, racing our cars & going to raves all weekend.

Could have sworn i posted in the other thread but i guess i didnt...
Born and raised in the midwest USA! My childhood has been a weird ride (not really a wild ride, but strange and bumpy...) and as a small result, I've been exposed to almost every type of music in existence. Since high school I've had a much better ear for music, possibly due to the changes I went through after I began using cannabis (which i still proudly do to this day. Legalize it!) and dabbled in other drugs, mostly psychedelics. I began making music when my friend introduced me to FL studio, but I didnt get serious about it until much later when i discovered caustic. Now i produce hip-hop beats for the group im in and do some electronic music on the side.
Still young and havent had very much life to talk about so thats about it.
Paint Huffing Pit Bull Puncher
Ha,
"Could have sworn i posted in the other thread but i guess i didnt..." and the the word cannabis, this is irony.
Mike
Im pretty sure that is actually why i forgot
Paint Huffing Pit Bull Puncher
Right, you are talking to somone that grew up in Seattle and will be moving back to Oregon after my kids graduate. Cannabis is no strager to me, just had to be a bit responsible while the kids are around, after that its high times again! :)
Plus, programing while high can prove very hard.
But playing music or my guitar while stoned, yeah, another dimenison.
I would like bar dwellers and alcholics to tell me what the facination with their crap is, especially the real hidden addiction, wine drinkers! All I ever seem to product drunk is really dpressing music.
Mike
Ive had mixed experiences programming under the influence. Usually I prefer indicas but they dilute my head so much i barely remember how to use the language im writing in. Music flows pretty well though.
Alcohol is a once in a while thing for me. I dont usually drink cheap, american beer, usually the darker european beers with real flavor. Or shots, i like shots....but i usually stick to the green.
Paint Huffing Pit Bull Puncher
Yeah, and the Graphix in my business name is no coincedence, it was a salute to one of the finest bongs I had ever owned with a pink/purple mushroom at the base. It broke sadly but I still remeber it.
Alcohol is definitly not for me, I have hardly ever drank beer in my life.
Mike
I hate breaking a nice piece. I had a bong named Weezer which had the perfect shape to hold it in your lap but my roommate blew the base out on the edge of a glass of water somehow... Now we just have a basic erlenmeyer type bong with much thicker glass. Nothing special but it gets the job done.

I’m Rachel; know as ReD (no reason why it just seemed to work for me)
I live in the UK just outside of London in Reading, the home town of Kate Winslet and the place where Oscar Wilde wrote his Ballard of Reading Gaol. I’m a bit of a home bird but did the usual traveling round Europe in my younger years. I turned 41 a few days ago so still smarting a bit from now being the wrong side of 40
So I’ve been singing and creating music since August 2012 until then the nearest I had got to it was playing the trumpet and piano very badly at school and singing in the bath. Now it’s a bit of obsession. I am however a creative bod and I paint and write poems (which has come in very useful for lyrics)
I am a mother of 10 year old twins and I’ve been married for 22 years. I spent too many years chasing a career and never seeing my family so a few weeks ago I quit my job for a more creative life. Not sure how that will pan out yet!
my name is Dan, i grew up in Pittsburgh PA, home of many famous artist (andy warhol being the most commonly known) im a visual artist by trade...and have a degree in computer animation. im 48, but ive been told i look like Im 30 something.
i have many interests including but not limited to, growing unusual plants. reptiles, art, food, and music,...when i was a teenager, my friends and i would occasionally visit the local music store, where i heard my first synth. some years later while in the navy, i acquired a mini Yamaha synth, and an Aleesis drum machine and a sequencer, and a Roland sound module and taught myself to play a little...when i left the navy, i bought a Korg Wavestation keyboard...i eventually sold my music equipment, for some easy money...now im disabled (kidney failure) and ive retired early...several months ago i got a kindle fire hd and discovered Caustic.
Sounds like you are coming in for a landing!
It seems logic would dictate a change of direction when a dead end has been reached.
Congratulations of your fresh air, I'm sure regardless of the outcome, it is refreshing.
Mike
im andrew from tulsa and dallas i move between each one can't pick but I'm 21 grew up in the woods like deliverance, IT graduate but never worked in IT field i was an autocad drafter for two years making thermal regenerative oxidizers(big incinerators) then moved to tulsa and installed ansul r102 systems in restaurants. now i work at a gas station in a suburb of tulsa taking it easy when i first got into music i was doing stuff like modest mouse or built to spill. then used fl studio for awhile and played a few shows with swiss Zurich band disco doom nice people then started hating everything i made vocally and on the guitar and then caustic came along changed everything then drifted into what i wanted to always wanted to make. but im still at the gas station late at night on caustic.
Hey Mike
Seems it was all short lived for me as I just accepted a full time job selling houses lol I went for a part time role at the weekends just to bring in a bit of money and they have been chasing me to do a full time role and have created a job for me! made me see that I am not ready to do the creative thing just yet..... well I managed just short of two months lol
Well you know what I am like! I am an Aries afterall
and the time off has been great ......
Well its the change that is important.
Same thing is happening to me right now. I would love to do music and 3d as well but I am writing a compiler, probably another one for a huge company now.
We have a really big project that enterprises are interested(JS/HTML5 web stuff) in, so I am linked back up into the system again. Maybe a choice, but in the old days, sailors had to use the wind currents to their advantage.
Still creativity is something that comes in all colors. I see beauty in my programming, its all just perspective. I enable others with my tools, I am a tool maker at heart, so you are probably just refining your destiniation.
Mike
Good morning, sir,

My Soundcloud page
OK have checked the links and have not ever formally introduced myself.
DrB is DrBolus, not my real name but I am a sad and pathetic individual who likes some anonymity. I have been using the name DrBolus since about 98 and have left many traces over the internet in various music making places. I have always had the urge to make music, much more than even listening to it, which maybe why I find dividing things into genres so hard. I think there are only really 2 types of music, stuff I like and stuff that I don't like as much. That being said I have listened to everything from Zappa to Sigur Ros via Prodigy Ramones and Black Sabbath. The music I make then is generally a hotch potch of stuff, I never set out to make music of a particular style, though I am sure there is a common thread that runs thrugh everything I do. I have my own sound (which is just another way of saying I don't really understand the more formal aspects of music production and am probably a little bit crap), and am always surprised and deighted when someone listens to the stuff I do.
IRL I am a driver which involves some waiting arund on occasion, which is why I love having Caustic in my pocket to work on tracks. Most of my tracks have been made on an HTC one, though of late I have been using a galaxy note 10.1, that's because I came off my bike and have had an interesting recovery. It's amazing what you discover when you are suddenly unable to do about 80% of the things you usually enjoy.
Umm what else, self taught guitar/bass/drums (remains to be seen whether I will ever play guitar again, but I had a go on a drumkit the other day and it was almost ok). Like running, motorbikes, some programming mainly PHP HTML though I am very slowly trying to learn Java, but I keep getting distracted by musical ideas. Oh and I have been knocking around the forums for quite some time.
Have a little listen to my work.

My name really is Ian, I'm 38, grew up in Maine, lived in Brooklyn< NYC for @ 17 years and recently resettled in Maine.
When I came back to Maine I was lucky to get a job on a carpentry crew that took me under their wing and taught me the trade. This spring I started working for a couple of my best friends as a stone mason, and it's a really satisfying job.
It's been a big change for me leaving New York and coming back to Maine, I miss being surrounded by people who "got" where I was coming from musically without having to explain, but I always knew I would move back here and really love being home.
I've had some pretty formative music moments like everyone else here. My dad says when I was a baby in order for me to go to sleep he had crank the stereo and then crank the bass; Hearing Little Richard when I was 5 years old; the first real band I was in as a late teen when we didn't know there were any rules to break so we just did it (feels very much like I think a lot of those young bands in American Hardcore did things), and over and over again transported ourselves into ecstatic trances of sorts just from making sound together; Getting into electronic programming with a friend of mine making jams and sometimes film scores for friends. (we played in an awesome psych rock band together, too) He re-introduced me to Timbalin and it was a an epiphany; the fact that music programing could be organic and free. Playing in a band that only did improvisation, with anywhere from 2 to 14 of us at a time, this really pushed me as a musician and taught me how to really listen. It was really cool, some people were highly trained jazz musicians, others had never played music in a group setting before; we were cross cultural and it was the first band I was in that had an even male/female ratio. Finally, after moving back to Maine and missing all the creative, crazy cats I used to play with in NYC, finding Caustic; now I can put my headphones on and fumble towards transporting myself (and hopefully others... someday? eeehhhh) into ecstatic trances. I'm calling my electronic project Black Limo.
I'm very thankful for this app and all of you who contribute to this forum. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!
