Different presets for individual patterns

Hi,

What I want to do is that ,say,I am using PCMSynth and want to have one preset(say Acid Bass) for the pattern in A1 and another preset(Deep pad) in A2. Is that possible?

I find that the preset seems to apply to all the patterns in that machine. But I feel it should be a common requirement to have different presets applicable to different patterns.

By the way, I tried to use the automation editor to select the presets for A1 and A2..but it did not work...automation editor is more about controlling the different knobs, not for selecting presets.

Thanks in advance for your inputs.

The simple answer is that you

The simple answer is that you can't, Caustic doesn't currently allow you to change presets from pattern to pattern (although I think it has been discussed - try to search in the 'Feature Requests' Forum).

...the more complicated answer is that you can't but you have options available to you if you needed to. You could resample by exporting loopzones to .wav then you could switch patterns and / or presets and repeat. You would then be able create a PCM preset and assign your exported loops to different keys...

...or if you're using one note synth samples from external sources you could build a PCM preset by assigning one sample to one octave, a different sample to another octave and so on. Caustic has 8 octaves so you could have 8 different samples over an octave each, or 4 over 2 octaves each etc

Hope that helps

The third suggestion is what

The third suggestion is what I would recommend as well, although it's a bit complicated.

If you have two presets that you like you can extract the samples from the two and then combine them into one preset. You'll have to get the samples by opening up the in-app sample editor, (done by pressing and holding the Level button on the PCM). In the file menu of the sample editor you can save the samples of the presets to your directory.

Step two: open up a new PCM. Press and hold the Sample button to get the sample selector. Insert the first sample. Set the range by pressing and holding the Low Key button to set it to the lower octave, repeat with the High Key button to the middle octave. To get the right tone you'll have to play around with the Root Key, by pressing and holding and trying different keys on the keyboard.

Repeat that for the second preset sample. Save it and you'll have a split keyboard combination preset.

...or you can just use two

...or you can just use two instances of the PCM.

Think of the patterns as memory banks for the machine. Songs are 'arranged' combining patterns or 'phrases' played by the machines in the sequencer.

I'm very much of mind like

I'm very much of mind like the creator of this thread. Why???? As we each make our own beatbox kits for example..... We save each one. ((( how i think and many 1st timers of caustic, do. About the term "preset"  ))) Thus each one will create a different mix for so many ideas. Dat if this was implemented it would be like what generates other new songs with effort yea!!! But less. As personal effort.

you could have literally

you could have literally dozens of different instruments in one song if you learn how to work the pcm to its full potential. I doubt we will ever have the ability to switch presets midsong as suggested, but you can get the exact same effect with a little time and effort.

In mid song is one thang. But

In mid song is one thang. But i was concern as not copy and paste to do so. But open thru either saved files in the middle of a project.((( In stop mode)))..... Or, in preparation mode  b4  a trk is even started.

Hi,

Hi,

Thanks for all your inputs.

Right now ,I am using two instances of PCMSynth..each with different presets....and that solves the problem for now...but if I plan to use the PCMSynth to load different instruments (probably with the sf2s available on the net..say for a piano, bass, guitar, etc),  then the PCMSynth will be the main machine to use..I guess the sequencer will allow quite a few of PCMsynths...but what if there are too many instruments involved for the different parts of the song? will the sequencer run out of slots to fit all the PCMsynths?

Hey Biswajit,

Hey Biswajit,

What James and Lucid are saying is that what you can do is use just one pcm synth and resample on it in order to in effect have multiple presets.

Have you watched the pcm tutorial? It may make it easier to understand J and L's tips if you check that out or rewatch it.

I find it gets difficult

I find it gets difficult managing a track that has more than say half a dozen different sounds, particularly when they're all playing together. I'm not sure what style you're going for, but if it's something like a 'mashup' style you should look into resampling. For example you could render your ideas into 4 bar chunks as wav loops and then load them into the Beatbox, which can also hold up to six different sample slots.

hey Biswajit, up to the max

hey Biswajit, up to the max of 14 machine slots for 14 machines, yielding 14 tracks in the sequencer.... you cannot add any more than that in the sequencer...

What I was saying earlier, is that using my C2.1 Builderz packs (Ambient, Extreme, Jungle etc...) those PCM presets contain 3 or more instruments each, mapped out in their designated keyboard zones.

You can create your own presets with your own samples to do the same.... it's what I've called it "Builderz Style"

So let's say 3 instruments crammed in one PCMSynth machine, takes up only one machine slot, one mixer and sequencer slot.

I am doing this all time also

I am doing this all time also Jason. It is tricky to setup first time but when you do it once it is easier.

When i am making orchestral track it is great to have Legato strings in lower half of keyboard and Staccato strings in upper half. So i can be switching easier to both and make string combinations.

I did the same thing... Two

I did the same thing... Two violin parts and a cellos part in one preset, to help for ensemble chord arrangement (very unique with strings, not easy to set up chord arrangement for even small four part ensemble)

I just really want a better

I just really want a better harmonizing way. For my melodies. Main reason i over use all the machine slots. I wanna give quite a bit multi layers to my track to give a more dynamic presence.
