Caustic Song file (optional):
I worked really hard on this track and learned a lot in the process. I spent about 2 weeks in creating it, but instead of getting excited like I usually do and post it before I have picked through it in detail I decided to wait another week and listen to it over and over again, making small changes to try and get the mix just where I wanted it. What I learned the most is that it will never be where you want it and at some point you must let it go free. The bass still isnt fat enough for my liking, partly because I wrote it in C. I think from now on for this this genre (drum n bass) I will write in E or F as this allows for more low end in the bass. I tried to artificially add low end by using a subsynth but the phasing problems werent worth it when mixed with the neuro sounding bass (my poor attempt at neuro bass). If the caustic file is requested I can post it. Anyways, enjoy!
Sounds like you really enjoyed making this;)
I do hear the sub phasing with the bass at some points of the song but the problem could be fixed, using a compressor/limiter to either channel(would prefer the sub).
Are you looking for any remixes? Maybe I can try messing around with the caustic file;)
Btw this has a very classy video game feel to it,high quality sounding~ nice job!

Yes good structured sound but it could be better;)

I included the caustic file if you want to have a go of it. The machine called basslead is ran through 2 other modsynths. The one in slot 13 is to fatten the low end a little, and the one in 14 is to widen and I put some lfo'd filters to add movement in the mids.

First off, dont tell me what to use in MY music. Using an Amen break loop is quite common in drum and bass. Secondly, dont ever use the width knob on drums, it causes phasing issues. You basically mudded up everything by doing that. While I apreciate your time in listening to my track I dont think adding width and another reverb did anything but mud it all up. Adding the delay to my bass that I spent a week creating just ruined it IMO. Again, thanks for your time in listening.

Wow dude, take it easy! You came in here offering help and I thanked you for it. What rubbed me the wrong way is telling me not to use loops. I would never tell someone what sounds to use in their music, its just not cool man. Most people in here would tell you using the width knob on main drums is not a good idea. Kicks, low end bass should stay in mono as it translates across systems better.
Forgive me if I sounded harsh in my reply, I know you are only trying to help. I'm sporting a nice cold at the moment so my demeaner is a bit abrasive as it is. For that I apologize.
I'm analising the SongFile now....
Ok just did my EIP 15 minute peek poke, and will kick this back to you in a few hours when I return home.... (My phone won't upload it) Corrected some phase issues that sat between 64 and 125hz, and a few other minor tweaks, and the mid-lows are tamed and the overall track sounds quite nice.
Nothing major really.
I need to learn how to do this, this might help thanks bro;) I will try my best and see what I can do~
♬ Lu!G
Yes brutal-x,don't get offended but mekanism is right...kick,sub/bass should always stay on mono, since its the main source of your song, leaving it on mono will not only make the song stand out but it will also avoid it from causing phasing problems~

You heared my songs luig and the effects I use and the wide in the beatbox I think dont sounds bad?
If my work in this song not a work really I only do some tweaks, anyway if the changes I have maked in this song you say its wrong So you are saying my songs not sounds at the higerr grade you mean in your comments.
Maybe I explode in the last comment but bro I am doing something more than only listen a song so If this guy thinks I make something wrong or dont like say it in another form. I am not saying he must say I am right, but say it in another way.
And to finish this guy dont listen any of my song If he is saying the beatbox wide in songs are bad.
Excuse me for explode but I think I am not talking shit here.

In case the email didn't let you d.l. it, here you go:
Caustic Song file (optional):
Thanks for the help J. I have listened to it in the car (which has a great stereo in it) and it sounds pretty good. I still need to listen in headphones. Its funny listening to how you mix tunes, I can tell you have played live a lot so it seems your ears are used to a lot of reverb. I did experiment with some reverb on the Amen break but I didnt like the echo that it created. I also turned down the mids on it because to my ears some of the percussion clashed with the other sounds in the mix and the focal point was lost. I'm surprised you needed to squash the master that much and low shelf added some more low end but also added some phasing in the bass later in the track but made other parts sound better, trade off I supppose. I know you only spent 15 minutes on it but I appreciate the help. I used your sweep pad 02 preset and and named it "faroutman", reminded me of some hippy new age stuff haha.
What are you using on your phone to see what frequencies are phasing?
My ears....
I see it in my head when I hear things
Damn, i really love this. I have a soft spot for DnB :D
Yes I've seen the way you work and know how well you use the wide knob, but again, percussions and hats/high hats are good to spread them a little except the bass drum and preferable the claps/snares should stay mono...everyone has their own way of mixing a track and its your choice how to do it,just pay attention and use your ears to really capture the final sound but without causing any phasing and/or distortion and you're good;)

Brutal-X, I have in fact listened to a few of your tracks and knew right away that you were going to adjust the width on the drums based on how your drums sounded in your tracks. You are not actually widening anything when using the width knob, it works by adding a slight delay in the channel giving an illusion to width.
I have made these types of mixing decisions before, using width on drums, but through reading through the threads here and with others help I found out not use it for drums and basses.
You want me to say things "in another form" which to me reads as I came off too harsh, for which I already apologized for. Dont forget, you came to my thread and told me not to use loops, in MY music. Another way you could have said that is to say that you dont like to use loops in your own music.
I would never ever comment on a persons track and tell them not to use a certain sound, its rude! Would you walk up to a painter and tell them not to use a certain color of paint?
Anyway, I have already apologized to you so if you are still upset than there is nothing else to say. Happy Causticing!
Thanks man!
Mek, when running live sound, I try to avoid reverb if I can ..... It was just on your Amen drum bites there, sounded very stout and abrupt (maybe it was your flavor for your piece -- wasnt bad to use them, dont get me wrong) i soaked that BB to add some spacial presence to it.
Rock on, I enjoyed this track, hoping you will make more....
Does not matter mekanism this is a new day and all other thing thst happenned yesterday is the past.
No problem excuse me for be toó much "animal" incivilized :)
Now in Barcelona is the morning I am searching for buy my first midi keyboard just for second hand to test if I can do better things whit a keyboard on caustic :)
And again excuse me for the bad form I talked to you.

No prob, brutal, keep making tunes and enjoy your new keyboard.
Jason, what I meant by reverb is that maybe you are more used to it as as you have done many live gigs where there is natural reverb.
The drum break probably wasnt the best one to use but I dont have many Amen loops and I had already cut that one up so I was too lazy to change it.
I have looked in detail on what you did to clean up the phasing and noticed you killed the low end on the Reese machine. I didnt realize it was causing that much phasing with the kick, the side chaining wasnt enough to clean it up. Is there a way to keep some of the low end on that Reese track? I like the warm tone it puts in when the bass is turned up on it. Would I have to resort to automating the volume of the reese machine every time the kick is triggered?
Also, on the bassefx machine I noticed you killed the width. Normally I wouldnt widen a bass but I tried to filter out the low end and cut the bass out on the mixer. My intent with that machine was to add character and movement to the mids and highs. Was it causing phasing issues?
On the panned grand machine I had a lot of noise issues when I adjusted the sustain and decay knobs so I wasnt able to automate it much to add a more live feel. I wanted a nice soft sounding piano but without having to add a lot of reverb. Your high shelf filter seemed to help with that.
Anyway, thanks for taking a looksee. I hope you dont mind me picking your brain about your mixing choices. I'm trying to step up my game on every new track I write so any help is appreciated.
Bug me anytime...... I have a ton of dnb/jungle drum bites that I've created and DSP'd for my work.... Some of them in my older PocketKits bundled with some of my older Caustic 2.1 content goodies.... Actually those PKits should be in the presets are of this site, come to think of it...
wow, this is truly amazing!
you can truly hear that you put a lot of time in this track, and its mixed very good.
Nice work!

Thanks, yeah I spent countless hours on this one. It still isnt where I want it but at some point you have to let it go and move on to the next one.
Hey it was a very cool soundtrack for reading this conversation....:-)
Liked it!

This is a cool music. I imagined the high adrenaline. Also, it can be a soundtrack of a racing games. When i was new to caustic, i've heard something like this and made my track called 'Booster'. But i can say that this is more awesome than mine. I like this track mekanism. Dope!
You're right mekanism. It is hard to get what you want in a track. The wide sounds, the perfect equalization, the balance of every presets, that was too hard for me that's why sometimes we leave it as it is. But I can say that this is a cool DNB track. I want to make a drag race or others which is high adrenaline. Keep this up mekanism. :)
