Here is a .caustic file with 4 modular synths all set up with double Pulse Width Generators.
The first Modular is the most inportant, the others just have added frills.
In each of the Modular synths an LFO is being sent to the 'Width' input on the Pulse Width Generator
>>>by changing the rate of each LFO you will be able to dramatically alter the sound
>this is also true for the shape of the LFO.
>>by adjusting the amount of pulse width on of each Pulse Width Generators you will also be able to alter the sound.
The first Modular is only the 2 PW's with dedicated LFO's controlling Width
The second Modular is the same but I have added a Lag Processor... this is fun to explore.
The third is the same as the first but with Sample and hold added instead of the Lag Processor... you guessed, fun to explore.
The final Modular is the same as the first Modular with both a Lag Processor and Sample and Hold added... fun, fun fun.
Again, don't get too hung up on the Modulars 2,3,4 .... those are just some added frills, Modular 1 is the real focus of this file.
Savvy Caustites will notice that on the Pulse Width Generator closest to the bottom of the screen, I have slightly adjusted the Cents knob and lowered it one octave.... do not feel tied to this setting choice.
The reverb setting is the default global master settings; do as you will with that.
This is really fun... you can get tons of cool sounds from John carpenter style onwards... can get some really funky, grimy bass tones if you pitch em low.
Cool experiments..... Too bad there is not enough slot space to MachineInput and link them all together.....
Hehehehe
Well if you have one slot open on the first modular, SendNotes to the second modular, in turn on that synth, SendNotes to the third modular, in turn again, SendNotes to the fourth modular... In theory can run all four slaved off the first, just the same....
That s why I was "hehehehehehehehe-ing" because as you say, do-able; I thought you were teasing me for my past massive modular slaves .But yeah, why not...
"Too bad there is not enough slot space to MachineInput and link them all together....."
Why not?
Each machine has at least one slot available, the first one has three.
And that's before we get rid of the oscilloscopes, which are useless. Beethoven never had an oscilloscope.
Luc, your sunny disposition is absolutely infectious.
Nice one Ian.
Pulse with can also be controlled by EG. I just made this one, PW is driven by a Decay modulated by LFO. Fun things appears in the attack at low settings .I've done a small pattern automation to show how it can be tweaked with 3 parameters only.
Layering Modular with Machine Inputs can make them be polyphonic, with a little automation trick for some unwanted semitones ;-)
By the way, a little trick: the "chords" as a third mixer, not connected to out, but with the same inputs as the second. try to connect this one, and your modular mix out will be mono. The stereo effect is due to small delay depending on where the module is on the grid.

Thanks Skarabee, downloading your file now. I actually just read about using pulse width to make chords, awesome!
Awesome file Skara,
I had fun with the res knob, esp. As far as the semi's knob automation for changing the chords between major and minor, very clever, That is exactly what I had read about doing. I imagine if you wanted to use this in real time you could assign a midi controllers tone wheel to the semis.
And strike that LFO sync every now and again.

Nice! Static smoothness.
Here I added a fake ARP feel to the pulse.

this is the kind of topic I like. Fun, experiments and exchange.
I liked the Random Melody thread you started, too. I used to play in a group that mixed a lot of electronics with live improvisation, so it clicked with me right away. JFMIDI posted a similar idea to yours, too, and both are a great ways to push machine funk in cool ways. A lot of possibilities.
Tonight, I have been working on a new Modular using one generator as the main voice and 3 others as elements of harmonic timbre, I posted some in the presets but my idea is not fully developed yet. Feel free to dissect and expand.
I will have a look in the preset section.
Another one with pulse width. This one use a 8bit synth as machine input to modulate a sub osc, giving some kind of instability. the first modular as only one pulse generator, as the second has 2 pulse generator and the 8bit is plugged in the sub osc mod in: sort of talking pwm (and a little trick for the attack)
an idea lead to another, and another... thanks for the starting point.

Ok Skarabee,
Back at you with this.... When you said Talking Bass you got me thinking of forment filters and while I started off on a different train, I ended up with this add on to your file. I think it could be consolidated some. I was triggering notes thru the Master modular, un-muting it will bring more of your original sound into the mix. volume levels can be adjusted across the board and the Arp in one of the modulars can be adjusted or turned off.
Edit:I just changed the file, i accidently uploaded an earlier muddier version not much different but this one is cleaner.

Here s an example with a pattern in it, quick sketch. I cut almost all the bass to show that tere can be room in the low end if wanted.
