So I thought I'd throw another drum beat over the fence and see if anyone wants to play with it. Some people seem to like the beats I put together. This is a shuffley / jazzy / funky / indie type thing.
I've thrown a bass line on this too because it was kind of talking to me! Use this as a learning tool to improve your own beats, or take this and turn it into a song.
Credits to Jason for the Pocketkit platinum snares and hats, kick drum is from the dry house kit, the tambourine is from the RnB kit and the crash is from a massive sample pack of 'ethnic' drums (which I now use everywhere because it's got great ksssh and loads of tail).
I'm not precious about this so if you want remove the bassline and do you own thing that's cool!
Anyway, always nice to see something emerge from this kind of thing. If you decide to use it obviously credit as you feel appropriate, it's polite to do so!
That's a cool groovestarter, and smooth sounding bass on the SS.
Hmmmm ok.
nice beat rob! both the bass and the drums are great as always.
don't ask me why but when i opened this project i got the sudden urge to add a dist guitar + wahwah, a wooden flute and a violin and add some minor chords and things like that. you could say heartache made me do it. and now guess what it doesn't even sound that bad... i'm pretty impressed myself ^^ I'm not finished yet though - maybe I'll post it here when I'm done

didn't have much time this weekend but two hours were enough to finish it. i added a few more instruments, changed some parts of the beat and added a few more patterns in the sequencer. the whole thing is nothing special though. chords and split chords and things like that. oh and i gave it a name ^^
the song - if you can call it that - now has a completely different feel though...
rob what do you think?

Thanks Rob. Appreciated as always seeing as drums are always the hardest bits for me to get right!

drums are really well done here. as i felt like ripping off i changed the drums completely, but i still have the same bass (its perfectly subtle)
Very nice one. This I can use!

RobF makes some cool drum runs..... if you listen to his posted tracks, they groove nicely, and get your hi-hat foot tappin'...
The bass is virtually the default settings of a sub synth with a few tweaks!

I think your wah guitar is a bit overpowering, personally I would look at which notes a guitar plays when making a chord as it's not even close to a piano major or minor chord and varies between six and four notes (for standard open chords). If you play these and then instead of using autowah but use a band pass filter and use the cutoff as the movement of the wah pedal you'll get a much more natural sounding guitar... I'll post up an example when I get a moment.
The rest of it sounds really nice though.

Thanks guys, I don't know if this kind of thing is useful but if it is then I'll happily throw this sort of thing over the wall for everyone to play with.

yeah the wah guitar being to overpowering was something i thought too. i just wasn't too sure about how to solve this issue. you got me interested there. I'll take a look at your example later.
thanks for you advice rob!

I, too, have noticed that when a nice sub-bass or something equally simple is necessary, only a few changes to the default settings to the Subsynth is sufficient enough!
