OK, so Bojeroo over on another thread talked about a sub synth challenge, although, he "cheated" and used a beat box too!
I love the idea of this so create a tune made solely of sub synths. Post up the caustic file and let everyone marvel at the coolness of what can be created solely with subs.
I've posted this in tips and tricks because I think (virtually) everyone will learn some thing new out of this!
Use any presets you like, and any preset you create will be fair game for anyone to harvest!
Let's get involved!
Sounds fun I'll try it out

Sorry Rob
I have to defend Bojeroo's honour here. See, by the time the "SubSynth Callenge" took off we had only six tracks to play with and only four machines to chose from in Caustic. These limitations made it necessary to use samples to get a beat going if we wanted to. We also had to record all automations in real-time and only in "Song mode" with no way to edit the result afterwards. Consider this and you realize what a great achievement Bojeroo's track SUBTRACTIVE FORCE is.
I used to do a lot of SubSynth stuff back then since it was the only polyphonic machine with real-time synthesis. For me the sound-design part is just as important as the composing part when I create a song, starting with a simple waveform and modulate it until I'm happy with the result is what I enjoy the most with synthesizers. Since the release of Caustic 3.0 we have a lot of machines to chose from which make the SubSynth less unique but I still use it in almost every track I make, but I don't do SubSynth only stuff anymore.
The last track I made with only SubSynth's was SubFourteen. That's probably the track that I'm most proud of because I was totally out of my comfort-zone when I made it. This was during the C3 beta testing period and I was testing out the new features of the SubSynth as well as pattern automations, glides and new FX's. The genre was also new to me by the time so I think this is my best track so far. There is a lot of phase issues in it and I would definitely mix it differently today, here it is if anyone is intrested.
Fair enough, I'll let the beat box go then for that! And I was in no way trying to take anything away from his track, my saying he was cheating was somewhat tounge in cheek.

This sounds fun, I normally don't use the subsynth so this sounds like a cool activity hah.
Oh, am I allowed to use effects, by the way?
Hi !
didn't have any time till now because of exams but now I finally got a free afternoon again. I'll see what I can do :) I already have a really nice melody in mind.

I could totally do this. I cut my teeth on subsynths in the '80s when I owned a Sequential Circuits MultiTrak (AKA the "Prophet 6" I think).
When I clear my schedule of the other projects on deck; I'll give this a try. I think I can even keep the "no BeatBox" rule.
Hey, so here is my entry for this little challenge :) If you could, please disregard how, well, bleh it is, lol. Its the first actual tune i've ever made with Caustic (thanks in part to Rej, who graciously informed me that I could use my Android Caustic quicksave files as actual songs, the one thing that was keeping me from being very interested in actually usin the app was that I was under the impression that i downright couldn't save my works because I didn't have the money for the unlock key :/) and in fact its the closet thing to a full tune that I've made in any musical context yet. Solo, yeah, even though its pretty bad, I do still consider it an accomplishment nonetheless!

Awe! I knew it was you (I bulk downloaded all the tracks here) when I heard (and saw) the hats and the drum work. It´s fine work and a cheerful track.

If you have a desktop computer (peecee or mak) there are free versions of Caustic for those platforms. I used the Windows version for a couple of weeks before I was able to scrape up a tenner to buy it for Android.

Outstanding work guys! Some great synthesised drum sounds in there. Loving the layered snares paulovski!
It just goes to show that it's possible to make great music with very few tools, you just need talent!!
Newbies should listen to these before they start requesting (demanding) more of this and more of that. Sometimes less is more!
Just love it! :)

It's been a while...
actually this song has been completed since about a week but to be honest I simply wasn't satisfied with it. so I put it aside for a few days hoping to get some nice ideas for it since I really liked the melodies that came into my mind. now it's been almost ten days since the challenge was started and I started lots of other projects instead of working on this so I give up on this for now
so my song might sound a bit unfinished.
well apart from this I'm pretty happy with what I've got. I'm still pretty new to caustic after all and I barely ever use the subsynth so it's at least not completely bad. so here's my 'entry'

Some of the sounds being created with the sub here is seriously impressive, skarabees drums are amazing.

One great thing about this challenge is you really have to think about every detail you're doing. for the drums for example I used the beatbox and an oscilloscope to be able to see what kind of waveform the sounds I wanted had. Things I've never really thought about before. And then seeing what the others here created is a great way to learn more new things. we should really do challenges like this more often!!

No offence taken Rob! I knew it was tongue in cheek.
Pan, thanks for the comments, I'd forgotten the original challenge was in the good old days of caustic 2!
I'm of mind now could not all the synths be a production of a challenge like this. Nothing but dat synth????
Two me?? Its intimidating. Worth the attempts if done sure!!! But after u think about the 8-bit as crazy as it is. Dat would be off t he chain interesting.
Could sea the vocoder doing as much as sampling like pcm. But not many have done this. I mean, did someone sample using the vocoder before????
I need to take a crack at this.
Hah, this is great!

I know this thread got old again, but I see no harm in updating it ;)
That challenge kept me entertained, when I need to free my mind from graduation stress. Here's the result. You should call it "The FX challenge" though, as most sounds I used depend a lot on those ;)
