PCM Programming - This Will Save You Hours!!!!!

http://www.singlecellsoftware.com/node/9901

Hit the link above and download a preset I made that saves me hours and if you program a lot of pcm, I guarantee it will save you hours too

If you've ever had to program a pcmsynth for samples or drums, you'll know what a headache this can be, having to enter each root, low and high key and change the play mode. I do it quite regularly, so now, I've created a preset that takes the hassle out of the process. 84 slots, all in order* and with one key per sample. The default playback mode is set to Note On/Off. It should save you hours and give you more time to concentrate on actually making music.
*Because of a glitch in the design of the synth, slot numbers 1-72 start at key C2 up to B7 and slots 73-84 occupy keys C1 to B1.
Use it anytime you're going to use the pcm for drums, samples or fx

I wonder what I´m missing

I wonder what I´m missing here. The meter shows no sound but the green lamp shows sound on/off. I went to the wave editor, and there was a straight line. What´s the trick?

It is a blank template, to

It is a blank template, to  make loading samples up easy for such projects as custom drum kits or vocal bites etc....  one sample per key template kind of deal....

Britt, I basically sampled a

Britt, I basically sampled a micro second of absolute silence with vocality, copied it 84 times, zipped it and loaded it as a pcm preset. Now all you gotta do is long press "sample" and you can load whatever you want without worrying about the root and range of the sample.
Just remember that the first octave is for the last 12 sample slots and sample numbers 1-72 start at C2.
Good to see so many people making good use of it. Stress free people live longer. It's why I eat a lot of chocolate

I´m a slow learner so I don´t

I´m a slow learner so I don´t understand this. I long pressed all the buttons and looked into what ever was in there, scratched my head, maybe my brain ran out without me noticing.
The "sample" load did not work. I loaded a 808 kick, plotted some notes in the sequencer, but I got no sound.
I´m not stressed over this, so I will go and eat my ice cream right now, and check my blood pressure tonight. :)
Oh!! Tiny light bulb moment: Maybe it didn´t work because I use a Mac?

There's always room for ice

There's always room for ice cream. Using a mac wont make a difference. Basically, as soon as you load the preset, long press the sample button and load a sample. That sample will be fixed to key C2. It wont sound on any other key. If you want to load another sample, tap the sample button and turn the dial until the number 2 is in the display. Long press the sample button and load another sample. That sample will only play on key C#2. Make sure the samples are actually loading by checking the display after you've loaded the sample. The name of the sample will be shown on the display of the pcm and also next to the corresponding key if you scroll the rack down to the piano roll screen. It's really useful if you use a lot of vocals or drums cos you can just keep loading it as you go and not have to worry about having to set the parameters for each sample.
With most presets on the pcm, it is viewed more as a synth, with pianos and pads etc. This treats it more like a proper sampling machine.
Hope this helps. I'm going to get some ice cream now too.

An image in your signature

An image in your signature needs to be created and stored on a server somewhere......  and then linked to your signature on this site's account editor

I would keep it small and not overpowering....

I just spent a few minutes

I just spent a few minutes correcting that glitch. I now have a version of this that starts the first sample on key C1 and goes up to B7.

But thanks for doing most of the heavy lifting, Alexei. I'll get lots of mileage out of this.

Hey no problems. You should

Hey no problems. You should post it on the presets forum. I'm kinda used to it starting at C2 now but it could help others who haven't stumbled across my one yet.
I think anything that makes the process of programming pcm easier and quicker is a very good thing.
I'm just realising that it's very useful for remixing other people's work also. Just export the beatbox stems and reimport them into a pcm. Shift up or down an octave or two and reprogram the samples accordingly and you can save a fair few slots by condensing a number of beatboxes into one pcm, so long as there's no variation in each beatbox's fx settings

With the upcoming 3.2 build,

With the upcoming 3.2 build, you can set up stereo effects for individual drums (you have save each as individual samples) and then import them into the PCM.... So you can have multiple "beatbox kits" and let's say have more reverb on the "first kit's" snare than the rest of your hits for that "kit"...... Or special EQ or shelving for a "second beatbox kit" in your new PCM preset.

You have just set up a bus for multiple virtual beatbox kits....

Builderz Style, baby.....3.2 Can't wait for it, I have much to share when it goes public

I need to include tools like this in my next Builderz update.... There are different things for different setups; I should address this so can be useful and helpful to other users who create or setup their own samples or recordings.

Awesome, I'm so grateful for

Awesome, I'm so grateful for havin this template now! It was the main thing stopping me utilizing the pcm for my drum kits, it was a super hassle! Same thing on the sampler of my Korg Triton, and Nanostudio for that matter!! I would go to set it all up, hit a stupid glitch, then hav to start from scratch... Very frustrating! Thanks again man!
