Just to add, the main difference between this and width control is the fact that you can randomised the field to give it more life. I use this technique with every single tune I make, working especially well with vocals but goes with everything, like Yorkshire Pudding. I'm hungry.
Music 2000 was radical for the time. I used to love the mic's clarity.
And if poss I will use stereo vocals, but sometimes all u gots the mono sample. Gotta make do sometimes dude. Wouldnt necessarily do it with kik drum, but def claps and snares. Every sound signal is mono anyway
Yeah, but if you can get the original stereo acapella it's loads better than doubling panning and shifting one channel. Might just be personal preference but hey
Been a long time since I used that bad boy, but cant you just save them out. Is it mp3 format? Cant remember. If it is you can convert the files with a simple converter. Not sure if you can go directly into the CD and select the files. Might be worth running a Google search on it
I've started programing 3 versions of the same vocal sample into pcm synth.......1 for each center, left & right. A technique picked up from Alexeis tracks & a collaboration & I think it works great, especially with vocals if done carefully but I prefer to automate the pan & width controls for synth samples.
While I don't advocate this method for a variety of reasons, I would however recommend this, to have this effect for your vocal track, is to lower the level of your L/R "delayed" lines, to help maintain the presence of the vocal channel in the overall mix, and reduce phasing issues that may have an adverse effect on some things later...
Lead vocal line should be solid center in your mix, with stereo effects (be it delay or reverb or "randomized wide" effects) used discreetly, just wet enough to give it "authority" to carry your track through...
You can also use the Width Knob in the Mixer Console to achieve the same channel shift effect....
Yes thats true. But I want to share this because I find it useful sometimes. . :)
