Hey, Rej got me the new OSC commands, can some people that had crashes post a couple fo the files that were crashing your devices on this thread? If I can check to see if the crashes are gone I can add to this app and release it with play lists down the road.
No that was the buffer in the audio loop and am talking about crashes from songs that had huge sequenced amount of patterns that wouldn't load.
I had an algorithm that loaded each song, loaded all tracks's song sequencer, some huge songs would overflow the string buffer array and the app would give a fatal signal and die.
I have messages where I can load individual tracks, but now Rej gave me song length OSC so I don't even need to do that with this app, nothing should crash in this respect if you can load it into 3.1.
Jason, the apk was not updated, sorry I didn't state that. :) It's still a month+ old. I just was asking for files so I could test them before I released another apk.
For anyone interested, my changes have made the app pretty stable. I have attempted to load all my different song directories and not one crash, so that stuff should be fixed.
As of right now i downloaded and check under the hood of this app.
Looks good.
but doesn't work.
android 4.4.2
device? A hisense sero 8" tablet.
1.6ghz Cortex a9 quad core processor.
1 gb DDR2 system memory
Walmart $120 on sale $80.
Win't load a few songs nor one song from the demo. Two even try anything more. But it looks good i'm very hopefull of it being functionable soon.as for it being a player......
timeout screen and rotating the screen would benefit too. But i don't sea it doing much else other than a player of caustic files. Now did i download the wrong beta app??? Possibly.
The attached song crashed the app. I had to restart my device to get the app working again. It loads the demo files fine, playback is a little sketchy but not terrible. This is on a Samsung Galaxy S4 running 5.0.1
It loads it now and plays. As far as the playback, it's the audio buffer and I have to have a way to let users change it, obviously it's a bit to low for your phone and others.
I'm a noobie as of last week and started with midi files to learn the program. As per the player these files show up, but are grayed out and can't be played.
Ok I looked at you file, right now I was checking for actual patterns in the song sequencer, your song only had piano roll, so the app thinks it's, not sequenced.
For this type of usecase to work, I would need to get Piano Roll OSC from Rej which is about the only thing other than automation I don't have access to.
So right now, it's grayed out because there are no patterns in the song, only notes.
Actually, now that I think about it, the next version I release, these songs will work because I got messages from Rej about the native song length and I am not checking song patterns anymore, so pure piano roll songs will play.
Good catch, because there willl be many songs either written PianoRoll sequencer only, or in my cases, mix of both patterns and sequencer note and automation data.....
I will try to get something new in the next day or two. I am testing some stuff for Caustic Live and I think I might have broke something in the Player, need to check in the morning. I'll make a new post when I have a new apk to download.
Nope, I was waiting for some stuff from Rej which I got and now just working on stuff.
There was initial interest but it died off, so I figured I would just work on it and not release any more "betas" for a while, while working on my other stuff.
Eventually, I am just going to shove it up on google play and see what it does.
It's in the queue. This fall will be busy for this stuff, the summer turned into a lot of house renovation, mom out from Seattle and I have now jury duty in September, life has it out for my time. :)
Hey Mike, i would like to report a bug with the player. So, when you are listening to a song OR updating your library, if you turn the screen off, often times the app just crashes... It doesn't do it 100% of the time, but it does it often enough to be a nuisance. If you fix this I will give it a definite 5/5 even though it is just very early on :)
I probably need some more information about it but, maybe it's trying to play a song that is crashing it.
I have been so busy this summer I can't remember if I updated the app with the new OSC that doesn't crash. The problem was, if you loaded a long arranged song with many patterns in the song sequencer, I would get a buffer overflow crash that would just kill the app.
I'm pretty sure this is why it's crashing, if not it may have to do with the audio thread getting interrupted which will take a lot more investigation.
When it is crashing, the start of a new song? In the middle?
Hey guys here we go again. (MIXING)... Mixing in my own opinion is shaping a number of instrument played into something colorful, something iconic, something unique, editing & replacing of samples, being able to figure out where something is playing off your target;... Making sure keys stay on the right note & perfectly assume you were just the audience listening to a song played. It must be sweet in your ears! How you know a pro in mixing ;
(1) IF YOU CAN'T MIX CROWDED INSTRUMENTS INTO ONE ACCORDANCE, THEN YOU STILL COMING UP IN MIXING OF SOUNDS...... MOST PRODUCERS FEAR TO PLAY MUCH THINGS BECAUSE IT'S A LION FIGHT TO MIX SOUNDS UP.
(2) AS A PRO YOU MOST KN THAT SOME SOUNDS PLAYED MIGHT NOT BE NECESSARY, COZ IT MIGHT JUST BE THERE MAKING A NOISE.
(3) PROS DON'T RUSH WHEN WORKING ON A TRACK.
(3) A PRO MUST BE CAPABLE OF PATTERNING TRACKS BY SEPARATING EITHER OF THEM INTO, CHORUS, HOOKS, BRIDGE, REFRAIN, INTRO & OUTRO & FADE OUT!
MY FOLLOW CAUSTICIANS I'M PROUD TO TELL YOU THAT MY SLEEPLESS NIGHTS ARE FINALLY WORTH IT COZ I TOOK THE TIME TO LEARN FROM MY FRIENDS IN THE FORUM.
Here's what i did in my second remixing of my track titled "SMOKE".... I played it in a car stereo, I'm astonished & ecstatic with the results though, i tried it in a clubs mid rage speakers. For that i had to grab a bottle of beer & congratulate myself! Lol...
I'll post the file........ Anyone interested can mix it in his own way. After all mixing is also about how you feel about the particular sound you're hearing & how it inspires you!

Hi Mike, funny, I was going to ask you how the player was progressing!
I presume by crashes you mean actual crashes and not stuttering/audio dropouts, cpu buffer overloads...??
No that was the buffer in the audio loop and am talking about crashes from songs that had huge sequenced amount of patterns that wouldn't load.

Ohhhhhhhh........riiiiight.... Crap my misunderstanding, my apologies.... I will wipe my previous posts to not confuse anybody about it.
For anyone interested, my changes have made the app pretty stable. I have attempted to load all my different song directories and not one crash, so that stuff should be fixed.
That's great news Mike! Onwards and upwards...!
Whatever buzz lightyear says..... yea dat!!!

Same issue here with only notes.

I wondered if that might not be the case, as my searches didn't turn up many folks using midi files in particular, so cool, win, win...
Thanks all...
@carlv
Try adding a blank pattern the full length of your midi song. It should play then!
That makes me think of something funny, I could almost allow this to play midi files. haha
I will try to get something new in the next day or two. I am testing some stuff for Caustic Live and I think I might have broke something in the Player, need to check in the morning. I'll make a new post when I have a new apk to download.

Hi Mike,
Any more news on Caustic Player? How's that audio buffer issue coming along?
Happy to do some more Beta testing and looking forward to hitting you up with some basic feature requests!

Do the grunt work of jury duty in peace.

It does it with all songs, even the demo songs...
How to reproduce:
*open the app
*go to a song
*lock the screen
*unlock the screen
*app crashes...
Well I haven't tested that far with screen locks, so that is probably why.
