You Fall Down (Andrulian Remix) - Rubicon Remix entry

Hi,

I've done a couple of remixes lately but was a bit unsure whether to enter an actual remix competition because the standard of entry is usually very high and I'm only just starting out with these.

I decided to give it a go in the Rubicon Remix competition which had an added element of challenge as it was to create an electro house remix (not done this style before) of their progressive house tune 'You Fall Down'.  http://www.remixcomps.com/contest/rubicon-7-remix-contest

I chopped up the samples in Audacity for use in Caustic and mangled a few of them with dblue glitch.  I created some other sounds, mainly in TAL Noisemaker, and arranged and the produced the whole song in Caustic.  Just used Audacity again on the exported wav to convert it to mp3.

Brandon from Rubicon7 said "Nice! Really cool use of free software and Android!" which is really pleasing as I often tweet and blog about how you don't need to spend a fortune on software or hardware to make music and was hoping to prove that point with this song.

Really tight sounds,

Really tight sounds, excellent clear mix too. Lots of space - the separation is outstanding.

Good work on this remix, but the overall panning seems a bit lefty...Did you use the width on drums?

Thanks for all your comments.

Didn't realise it was a bit of a 'lefty' lol. I did use width on the drums and some other tracks, panning was central.  Will have to have another listen as it sounded ok on the couple of sets of headphones I tried it on.

Have experimented quite a bit with EQ, combined with Jason's compressor settings I think that helps a lot with the separation. I listened to some early tracks I made and recent ones definitely sound better with these sort of techniques.

I do love using dblue glitch,  get some brilliant results just need to be careful not to over do it or make everything sound the same.
