Caustic Song file (optional):
Side-Chain Compression & Distortion & EQ & Filters
Have you ever wanted your sub-bass to stand out? Well, now here is how to bass one way in caustic. Actually it's not necessary but whatever...
--- --- --- --- ---
1) Set up a sub-bass sound that is from a synth.
2) Use distortion. Any will do. Make sure to not over-distort the dynamic of the sub-bass sine wave or it will become well... distorted.
3) Side-chain the kick containing instrument to the sub-bass separately to let the sub not be hit too hard.
4) EQ and Filter
5) Additional Settings
And that's it.
I love sub bass. I was using it from day one!
Well, I only used the subsynth on a sine wave... Maybe with a bit of bend.
Recently I have been using subbasses as a sidechain for beatboxes but not distorting them... I'll try it.
Thanks

Im wanting to try this method, I've developed my own method using compression and limiting, I did it on Most of my tracks in caustic to pretty good effect. this though I like.
Thanks!!!!

Like the strategy here. And drumstep is a sub genre of drum and bass, not dubstep. Anything that runs at 174 is either drum and bass or brostep. Dubstep is 140 or 145, even that drumstep could sometimes run at 140 to. Drumstep can't be considered as dubstep cause sometimes other producers make drumstep as Cloudstep.

No. There are connections in genres. Not just one connection. That's why my view is like that. It can be a sub-genre. Basically sub-genre means a new level in music.
nice track and method!!

Hey, that's a cool tip Phos/Duran95, .. You always come thru with the exploration; thanks.
Mike Watt, from the band Minutemen, talked about each instrument having it's own respected HZ range that was not to be messed with... Listening to Roots (like Burning Spear) music and it seems to follow that model with excellent effect! Much like you suggest.
Also, I think it is dumb to say one sound of music is "x" .... Why? Don't robot.
Thanx!!
Updated to v3 already. Sounds catchy...
Yo phorsion I enjoyed our collab, I lost where that thread was, but you did a great job with the song and made it your own with a unique spin. I enjoyed it Man!

Take it a step further, and remove the ParaEQ in the second MasterFX slot, drop in a MultiFilter, LowShelf, sweep to 2 notches from the lowest Frequency setting, No Reso, and boost a few notches until your fundamental bass frequencies start to pull through, and this will really thicken up your tone, in conjunction with your sidechaining method to keep your kicks (beatbox kits' kicks) under control
Nice work, sir -- sounds good
Yes, Jason's method works very well in most cases. You can also try putting a low-pass filter on the sub, that keeps it out of the way of your kick and main bass. I prefer the later method unless I use a sub bass with more harmonic content that I want to expose in the track. Side-chaining is also nice and if you play around with attack, release and threshold settings you can make it really transparent.
Try this on for size if you like (V3.2B3 if you have it installed)

@Phorsion: Indeed, and you can't boost a low-passed signal? It's really the same technique but you use the track level to boost to taste instead :)
Ok. I changed the dynamic to go deeper.
This time with more tweaking and more Parametric EQs for a harder bass except I didn't actually change the reverb or delay.
