Hi guys! It's been a while since I posted a track here. This is my new remix of Apollo 13 by Marko Stc. Hope you like it guys. Feel free to post your comments and suggestions.
Damn, how are you guys getting your mixes to sound this good in Caustic? All my mixes sound dirty compared to this. Nice work! Electro house has been on my list of genres to try making and this is very inspirational.
Anything is possible with Caustic!
The secret is in the use of your ears, listening and adjusting carefully will give you a good clean mix;)
There nothing really special to it actually;)
@Alexei thanks dude. I always make some experiments on choosing my presets especially in the subsynth. Then when the sound was weird but catchy, then that's it. I used the Hacket preset from the subsynth to get this sound. :)
@JHSound actually the 909 kick was not as strong as other kicks, for me, so I used it for the compression of each instruments and also for the master EQ. This will avoid clipping and oversounding. Then experimenting on the master EQ by playing the knobs.
@mekanism i was trying to experiment and experiment at all times. I was making some comparisons especially with some tracks that were mastered by the professionals, I think. And now, I am happy that, for me, that I got this kind of sound. I don't use compressor on the masters, but when I saw a file from Sir L!feUp, i was inspired to use the compressor though I'm having a doubt using it.
@L!feUp you're the one who open up my mind and my inspiration to attain a good and clean mix. And all I can say is thank you for sharing some thoughts that helped me a lot. :)
Ahhh I get it now...you've used an additional kick for the sidechain...that sounds great,I never thought of doing that niiice!!
You see, everyone is still in progress of learning new tricks;)
Yes. Because if I used the entire beatbox, thr compression was not equal. From kick to kick+snare+cymbals..uneven compression will exist. And now the 909 will do the thing because it has an equal attack and also a good delay for me. :)
Something I haven't tried in Caustic yet but have in Ableton is using white noise to trigger the side chaining. The full frequency of white noise is better at triggering it. It sucks we have to use a machine slot just to trigger a side chain though. I do all of that stuff through bussing on my pc which saves a lot of cpu.
You can automate the volume manually, but that would take forever. I think going forward with 3.2 the thing to think about is having your presets pre-mixed. For example, any presets you make using the merge rack feature make sure if its a lead sound, run it through a band pass filter and re-check to kill the lows. Also it might help to add any effects that bring out the character of the sound you want so you don't need to add in any effects other than effects solely intended for mixing. This has been my biggest issue as to get the sound I want I wind up using a chorus or something to add character.
What else can I say?
This is indeed one of the best I've heard so far! I just love that drop! So electric and clean!
Uniqueness to its fullest!;D

Thanks Sir LifeUp. Just wanted to have a unique type of electro house right now. XD
LifeUp nailed it with "clean". This sounds so sharp and clean and everything has punch. Wish I new how you got that nice sound! :-)

The key is on compressor for now. I use the 909 for sidechaining all the presets. Also used on Master Eq.
Dude this is unique right now. Loving the 8bit sounds, the juxtapostion of different rhytmic devices and just loving the build..top notch job

Forgive the noob question but ... I understand sidechaining but need explanation of what you mean when you say you used the 909.

I am thinking should there be a way to sidechain without using any extra slots or fx?(Caustic)

Good point;)
The new update should give us at least two more extra fx slots just in case...wouldn't that be great!!;D

For me even additional 1 slot will do. There's already knobs for delay and reverb and that was richer than reverb or delay fx.
