The Abyss Looking Back (Finished +.caustic file)

Caustic Song file (optional):

Thought I'd take a little break from the happy dance stuff and and get a bit sombre.
I just watched the last episode of You Me and the Apocalypse (Awesome, by the way) and started this this afternoon.
I'm sure I've heard similar on a superhero movie at some point.
What I got in mind is something movie score like, when we're made to think that all hope is lost, just before we all get saved.
** Finished now. It's made using nine pcmsynths, including five for strings/chords, two subsynths and a bassline.
I decided to leave the caustic file cos its got a few nice strings and samples and also someone might wanna redo it or add to it. Please feel free.
As always any comments are welcome
Hope u enjoy it

P.S.
If you play this direct from the caustic file, it's a lot clearer than the soundcloud version. Not sure what they do to screw up the quality like they do, but I wish they wouldn't

sounding good, it doesnt

sounding good, it doesnt remind me of any specific film, but yeah it certainly does have that soundtrack quality going on, like the arp and the way in comes in about half way, you should definetly carry on with this

Cheers guys. Am still working on it. I thought I'd expand my portfolio to include some cinematic style score music. Really tricky to keep the strings interesting and really break down film scores. But fun still

You created that movie-scene very well. Could be a scene before the last winning fight as well.

Argh! Tempted to post it now

Argh! Tempted to post it now but I wanna make sure I haven't forgotten to put anything in or take anything out. So much more involved than dance music to make.
I have images of meteor showers, burning through the sky and demolishing buildings, while the avengers all look defeated and hopeless, before they all give it one last victorious push to beat the bad guy. Yknow, typical superhero movie shite lol. Should be up by tonight.

Nice finished effort, really

Nice finished effort, really strong track there is a whole lot of work gone into this, and it may be I have said this before, but there is a hint of Mike Oldfield in this to my ear, think it's the arp, if Mike Oldfield was bang up to date, that is, in my book that's not a bad thing, so hope you don't find that comment in bad taste...it hits all the marks of that type of film you've mentioned with real skill and feeling, I was watching footage of the floods up in the north (Carlisle actually being my town of origin) and thought it actually kinda fit that..if that doesn't bring things down to much...excellent song...yes

Thanks guys.

Thanks guys.
@Wells, no bad thing at all being compared to Mike Oldfield. A pioneer and visionary, so thanks loads for that.
Not bringing it down at all. It's supposed to be about despair, hope, weakness and strength, and triumph, so I take that as a good remark. Like I said, it was inspired by the end of You Me And The Apocalypse and maybe a bit of Avengers too, so all good.
@Skynexia, glad you like it, and you're more than welcome to the file. Got some really nice soundfonts I used, like the Violin Arco, which is kinda a superstring, goes with anything and I use it an awful lot with different filters. My particular favourite is the chain dragging sample, that leads to the snare. I got it from freesound.org, the best sample site out there. It was from a sample of a guy dragging a chain across various surfaces for seventeen minutes. Worth it, cos I love that sample lol.
Thanks for commenting :-D

Hey.......soz for delay with posts been mega busy m8. Yea so heard this via Facebook post dude & been meaning to get a coment. If I was to asked to pick a word to describe the track I'd choose "intelligence" like this one alot Alexei.........it sounds like you've had an idea in mind or a pre determined feeling for the track & brought it to life with emotion........brilliant!!! Only thing I would say tho dude is I feel the track itself deserves a better artwork but each to their own taste ect

Hi AB,

Hi AB,

This is a really nice polished piece.  What I like personally is that it keeps constantly changing and moving but without you being aware of how.  Nice subtle changes and shifts as the song grows and recedes, great dynamics.  Typing while listening and song is just ending ... beautiful.

Cheers JHS. Quite surprised that people like it, considering its not dance or edm. Just something I wanted to try out. There's a fair bit of variation in the different strings to keep it movng. Appreciate the feedback :-D

Just to echo some of the

Just to echo some of the other comments here, this is a beautiful sounding piece of music. I feel slightly guilty for wanting it to turn into a 'William Orbit - Barbers adagio for strings' / 'DJ Tiesto' -style dance track after the first 30 seconds or so(!) but it was captivating throughout.

Incidentally, I've had the first episode of 'You Me & the Apocalypse' sat on my Sky Box since it was first aired, but still haven't got round to watching it yet. (I think they are still all available on demand) I must try to get round to giving it a go over Christmas following the glowing recommendation!

@Danny, check above link out. Its my version of The Test Worked, from the Ex Machina OST. Just thought if you wanted to study strings, this could help. Total bitch to get the chords just right, but sounds really dreamy and ethereal. Was around my fourth ever tune on Caustic, but still one of my proudest works. Caustic file included, feel free.

@DanSeb, was pretty difficult to stay away from my usual tricks and keep the feel.of the tune lol. My "Go To" is hats and arps, so to try and keep this as a restrained piece was a test. I'm really taken aback at the response. Honestly only did this to see if I could. Wasnt expecting anybody to like it really. Strange what clicks with people.
And YMATA is seriously awesome. . Starts off as kooky but just gets amazing. Where else you gonna get Rob Lowe and Pauline Quirke driving a micra through slough????

I think this is what was in my subconscious when I made this tune. Just happened to be watching BGT and a kid was dancing to it. I hate that kid now lol. Hans zimmer obvs. There are other vids but seeing it done live is just breathtaking. I am gutted cos it feels like my subconscios is a thief but I think its different enough to be classed as its own tune

For a second I miss this!
Strong track for sure!!
At first I thought you were going to drop a dnb type of beat but then I realized it was a chilled orchestral tune(;
Great work on the mastering as well;)

Cheers dude. Took a lot of discipline to NOT add too much rhythm, but still lift the tune. And I really appreciate any positive feedback on the mixing. A lot went into this one to try and make everything get along, so thanks again :-D

Dang man! this would fit

Dang man! this would fit right into a film no problem :-) and that is no easy feet, if you have ever tried to find music to add to a video sequence, its a surprisingly tough challenge, and you start to realize how much talent some of these film composers really have.  I think you could pull off scoring a film :-) so wow, good job on this one man! :-)

The transition from pure

The transition from pure strings to the electronica elements is smooth, the piano bridges it nicely, the event horizon sound track was (somebody) and Orbital and had similar flavours to it.

But comparisons aside, this is a fucking beautiful piece of work. You should be proud of yourself.

Cheers again guys. Really

Cheers again guys. Really means something when so much quality is being posted that people still comment on a relatively old tune.
It was going round my head for so long, I had to make it. As it turns out, the tune in my head was "Time" from Inception, by Hans Zimmer, and I went on to do my own, faithful version of it, which is posted here also and on YouTube.
So pleased so many people like it
