Ascension is another trance masterpiece I have been working on for the past month or so... Strong basslines and a choir are the foundation for this piece.
The intro brings you in with a soft and clean explosion sample and a short decaying version of the kick and some edited Vox samples and slowly introduces some elements of the track. The breakdown progresses introducing chimes, reverse triangle samples and a deep string pad. Drums are subtly introduced then drop out again and the piano melody takes Centre stage, after that a string ensemble joins in with the choir and pad, and the drums come back in for a trancelike dream state before the buildup which introduces a square distorted bell lead combined with the supersaw pluck I use in so many of my productions, and then the bass kicks in and you fly towards ascension.
I mixed this on my new headphones: sennheiser hd280 pro and tried to make it as close as possible to commercial releases mixing wise. That means highpassing everything except the kick and sub, (and pad in breakdown). I think it came out as a great result. The song uses an orchestral loop made by myself using spliced samples and plain old samples made into a pattern with some reverb (Indian drums from indycat kit by skarabee) :)
Anyway enjoy.

Very nice!
I like this a lot.
Nice sounding piece, very accomplished, and the choir gives it a nice element. There's enough going on to keep from noticing the 8 minute length

How is your work flow for a piece like this or the other ones you made? I would really like to understand as I feel like I am a bit short when I try. Your work is really fantastic. Started to listen to it in the car, got to the house, sat in the car until the song was over. I commend you in bringing in nature to your music in a way that it doesn't sound silly or repetitive, something that it's on my list of things to do.
Thanks fish :) my workflow is fairly consistent in that I don't arrange anything until every single pattern (or most bar a few) are created, and I will often start making the breakdown first (in pattern mode) and then use elements of that to make the lead melody, roughly mix it there and then, create every drum pattern I will use and create all basslines etc... Then I will arrange them and automate them while arranging the song (I usually collect ideas about what automation I want to happen at which point when I'm creating all melodic parts...) I use the master channel to add transition effects like before the drop and in the intro in this track.
And also I will spend a lot of time grabbing samples, highpassing tjem, reversing and reverbing and adding all sorts of effects until I have something that sounds good and will work in the song... Then I spend ages adding new effects and fine tuning the song... Like in this track the string part was a later addition, as was the orchestral drum loop... I have a very set workflow that works for caustic which I Try to make clear to peoppe I collaborate with :P
Hope this helps.

Your Caustic SongFile was 150mb? Wow, and your device ate it up? That's an accomplishment there.
Nice sounding groove, good mix. Very well done, sir.
You made a good choice of headphones, they will serve you well.
Thank you Jason :) my device splattered a bit at points but mostly it was smooth sailing, my Xperia z2 phone has been with me for my whole caustic career and hasn't let me down yet :)
And I think repentence was over 200 mb so this wasn't my biggest file but the most cpu intensive :P

Well I'll take a number whenever your taking in collaboration. I have the kinda the same style as you. I make most patterns then add the to the song. But trance transitions, or maybe what you call the "breakdown" is my downfall.
I would be up for a happy rainy tropical night. Been from the tropics "Caribbean" to be exact, there's nothing better than sleeping in the nightly rain, with a cool moist breeze coming in the window as the rain outside makes a percussive dream of water hitting all kinds of leaves. And I happen to had been in my grandmother who had an old wood house with the aluminum roof makes it for a percussive masterpiece. Then you add the Symphony of all the creatures of the night, tree frogs singing and maybe a delicate sound of thunder. You don't get that in New England.
Man sometimes you start typing and before you know your lost in your thoughts.
Thanks for the reply.
Hey fish I'd be happy to do something like that with you sometime, email me about it and we can plan something together ;)

Yo mrshots nice mastering and production level, I think the highpass filters paid off, the frequencies between bass and mid/high seem pretty nicely separated. Also like the melodies. The water and bird chirps you use remind me of an old song I made in fruity loops; I'll have to put it up sometime.

On second thought, this is not good idea. :-) This is your work, and i want to make it on my own. But it would be great, i know. I could make dope beat with this. I learn how to scratch samples. This would be awesome, but i don't wanna steal. :-) BTW, where you found these choir samples? All free samples i found are more than bad.
