Phorison, second one was nice. :-). Why don't you make some presets? I would love to test them. BTW i finally figure out how to make growls. ;-). I will not add caustic file yet.
All of them. :-). This thread is about presets, testings, tutorials, sound design etc. I want to learn. I will inderstand if you don't wanna share. I also have dozens of selfmade presets that i keep for myself for now.
Actually, Panda Eyes is my favorite these days. But in general? Definetly Skrillex and Spag. :-) Zomboy is maybe stealer and cheater but he knows how to make good track. But i don't like his new material. I think he lost it. And Virtual Riot is cool guy, available for masses. :-). Which makes him better then he actually is. His chord stacks are his "patent". :-)
Hey. This forum is awesome. I've messed with caustic for a while now making industrial tracks and i like a lot of the darker dubstep ( ex excision) so I've decided to try my luck at a dubstep track so I've been studying the format and attempting to get that hard dark excision sound.. So far I've failed...also need to figure out how to make those awesome break downs...any advice?
Talking about panda eyes if you mention him you should mention Teminite as well. He's a good friend of him and he's the actual better artist of both if you ask me. You can actually hear his influence in every of Panda Eyes recent tracks both in the sound design and in the melodies.
I found it! An answer to what's with Bass/Growls. The reason why we can't make certain sounds is because our modulation oscillation is too slow. We aren't able to go any faster than a specific rate on LFO. Automating a Parametric EQ a.k.a. Modulating, will serve you well in getting audio rate details.
There are 4 types of modulation oscillators. If we can emulate those then it will be possible to make awesome sounds. But sadly we can't lol.
Ok Lesson 2: Ring Modulation Via Modular
Use mixer with mod insert to emulate ring modulation.
Phorison, if we could only automate effects without manual settings. You know, set some kind of LFO to filter effects. Which will control cut and res for us. We choose rate and depth only. And i'm not talking about machines. I'm talking about effect section. That way we can build effects so much better and faster. This way i get bored after 5 minutes of trying to draw perfect line in effect editor.
This is more of a modsynth thing, but I'm sure you'll find it useful. The mini Lfo's no good for growl. Forget it. Use something else. Any of the oscillators can be used as lfo's. I've used a sub oscillator to modulate the cutoff of a filter here. There's a 2>1 mixer above it. It's output control will adjust the sub oscillator frequency. Turn it up. It's independent of tempo.
Whilst I'm at it. There's a 3>1 mixer next to the 2>1 mixer. The output of that will detune the two wave generators in unison.
Hey phorsion... Man.. I was trying to recreate this synth sound I heard in a song and failing bad. Any tips or maybe you could set me up for a preset. The song rabbit junk - pop that pretty thirty.. It's the high synth sound that stands out
I make creative EDM utilising Caustic and many other Daws. See for yourself on my SoundCloud, you may like it :) https://soundcloud.com/xandyaudio thanks!
mekanism your Mr Wobbles file is tight!! I love your use of compression in the effects section,. and that bitcrusher really brings out the bass.. great job!! I have learned quite a bit from that file,. thank you :)
Niceeeeeee. :-). This thread is all about sharing (still not all about) So you can borrow whatever you want. That chord stack i wanted for a looong looong time. And i did very close "twin" , just to have it in my presets.
If you put oscillator 1 octave to "+1" you get a laser synth at measure 4-5 . If you put oscillator 1 to "-4" you get a cool deep bass maybe on the same measure.
@selfinflict3, your welcome. That preset is very versatile. If you replace the bitcrusher with a distortion effect and use saturate and turn the cents knob down on the oscillators you get a reese bass, turn the waveforms to square and you get a square bass.
Keep in mind guys that there really is no way to make the same kinds of sounds your idols make with the tools that they have vs what we use here. There might be a way with the merge rack feature but after months of trying to make neuro basses in Caustic I gave up, it just doesnt sound the same.
I've been playing in subsynth and ended up making this...what I think...rather interesting preset. Tell me what you think. Just play with rate and depth for volume.
Phorsion, don't be an ass. You know what I was saying. If you guys think you can pull off what Skrillex can using Caustic tools be my guest, it will be a long and fruitless journey.
Go look up what the VST Serum can do and how much CPU it uses and try and copy that sound in Caustic. That is the go to now as it has replaced Massive and can do even more than what Massive can.
Im not saying give up on trying to make Dubstep in Caustic, just don't expect to be the next Skrillex using Caustic alone.
Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like a downer, I have been trying to make complex bass sounds in Caustic literally since the modular was introduced and have failed miserably.
Please continue to share, and succeed where I have failed!
I got in mail different answer from Phorsion, i guess he edited comment. :-). I didnt ask for any presets, i just want you guys to join me in my tries to make this similar as posible to pro sounds. I have my ways, you have your ways. Phorsion, little tip bro. You didnt tried to use custom waveforms. ;-). Almost all dubstep presets use waveforms which are more complex than sine/saw/square. I still try with custom waveforms, but i guess im not that good in modular synth connect stuff.
@Phorison:
First of all: You are doing a great educational effort here. I can´t even imagine what it takes to make all these sounds and with explanations too!
Second:
You are all clever guys and teachers, and I admire you all. I don´t understand it all, but that´s me. One day I´ll have a light bulb moment.
To me dubstep still is full of ´what, why, how, huh??´. But I have (rare) moments of understanding now.
In my opinion, dubstep is the hardest and most intricate genre to do well, and that´s what makes me interested in it. It´s the ´prog´ of electronic music - always a step (heh) ahead. What a victory it must be just to share what you do here, guys, think about it, be proud of what you know!
And deal with each other´s views on sound design....
Many elements of dubstep are used in a wide range of electronica and I want to learn some of it to spice up my music.
I study this as much as I find time to, and I still think it´s fun.
I hope, that when I understand some of it, time will mature the stuff in my brain (like other theory).
This was a long post, but I soooo want you to hang in there, and I sooo want to show my gratitude. This school... wow!
Thanks for being here!
I guess i will continue with tryin' :-)

What kind of preset do you want to test out from me?
Basses? Bass Growls? Lasers? LFO Saws? Leads? Vocoded Growls? Vocoded Metal Guitaring? Hardstyle Demonic Kick Modulation?
I've done a lot of experimenting. In the hard genres. Dubstep, Metal, and Hardstyle/core.
All of them. :-). This thread is about presets, testings, tutorials, sound design etc. I want to learn. I will inderstand if you don't wanna share. I also have dozens of selfmade presets that i keep for myself for now.

Haha, ok let's take it easy. I'll have to polish up whatever I have and think of how to present it as sound.
Give me some producer names so I can try to make something similar.
Spag Heddy, Skrillex, Zomboy, Must Die, Flux Pavilion, Panda Eyes, Virtual Riot etc. :-)

I never heard of Panda Eyes he/she must be new. :)
Spag Heddy is your favorite. :D
Oh so Skrillex level is good too.
Ah maybe even some Virtual Riot would be good to listen to.
Never listened to much Must Die.
All I remember form Flux Pavilion was Bass Cannon it was dope.
I don't really like Zomboy's quality of his songs, but that Ghosts song was tight quality.
Ok that's my comment for now. I'll find something I like from one of them and make something. Get ready I'm going to post something soon. :)

Keep watching Massive Wavetable Tutorials that explains parts of Massive. :D
I need to do that myself. Haven't learned the parts of Massive.
