I am using a mac
I have looked over the forum.
I am new to ableton live but it seems to respond to caustic or atleast identifies it but I cant make it pick up the sound or record in ableton live from caustic.
it does not show up as a plug in but it does show up as an in. I turned it on in ableton preferences.
I heard it works , but does it ?
There is nothing special about Ableton, it can send and receive midi messages. If the device can send midi, Ableton will pick it up.

Ableton...
Is this an ice cream topping or something?
Uh yeah I think it's actually called Appleton with cinnamon.
Ableton Live Lite came with my Focusrite audio USB interface. I tried to like it; I really did - I watched about four or five introductory tutorials and attempted to work with it, but I just couldn't figure out how to make a track at all.
Reaper on the other hand, I watched a couple of tutorials and I was off and running; I have one complete track under my belt now and started work on a second one this past weekend. Still watching tutorials to pick up on more of the features and the nuances thereof, but I was able to figure out the basic workflow with minimal effort.

For me it was the complete opposite with Ableton, picked it up right away, had a track mostly finished the first night (although it was terrible track). I tried Reaper and was cool too, but no other program uses racks and drum cells like Ableton does, and the clips for live play are fun too.
Bitwig is very cool too, love the tabbed projects and how stable it is. There are a few little things that prevent me from using it for my main DAW though, like lack of clip fades. I do a lot of audio work and really need clip fades. Then there is the tablet layout for multi touch that blows the socks off anything else out there. If I had the money for a Surface tablet and Bitwig I would be all over that.
I produce using ableton as well. I primarily will export midi and audio when crossing over to Caustic. Like for instance making break beat kits for use with Beatbox. its worked really well in that regard and I find creating break patterns for Drum and Bass in Caustic works just as well as chopping them elsewhere. I really struggled with this early on. Nothing I could accomplish in Caustic would feel authentic. But now I found a happy medium.....

I don't like the workflow for ableton. Things are just a bit too small such as the icons primarily. The view can't be changed it's so massive all the tools are like a barrage to the face. I can't even find a final sequencer to make a song so that's something. Even if there is a sequencer, the tab has to be pressed a lot. It also has to have a keyboard attached to even work right or accurately in designing sound. It would take me way too long to even make a song as a beginner.
But !!! One thing I like about ableton is the sound designing, it's fun. They make music production fun and that's a big one.
If you want to get sound from Caustic back to Ableton, you need soundflower. Put it as your system's audio device and then in Ableton choose what ever soundcard you use as an output and soundflower as an input. If that makes any sense and I understood right what you wanted to do.
