Pitch bend..

Yesterday, my brain had a visit.. My muse.. She told me: ok, there's no automatable pitch bend on Caustic.. And you would want this feature to be implemented..
But until then ?? What, if you tweak the "cents" button while the note is played ??
The FMsynth and the PADsynth don't have a cents button.. On the KSsynth, the PCMsynth and the bass line, this button has no effect while the note is playing..
But on the Subsynth and the Modular, this button is effective at anytime.. The range is +/_ 1/2 semitone.. Ok.. If I automate this control, I should, in theory, obtain some slight bend effect.. Even some vibrato, delayed and irregular.. Let's try..

So I tried with the Subsynth.. Osc1 silent, osc2 alone.. And it works..
Tried with the Modular synth, and it works..

The problem with this technique is :
It's only available with 2 machines
When you decide to replace the machine and use another one, you lose all automation..
On the nodular, even when you change the preset..you lose your automation..

But still, it works..

Still expecting a real pitch bend automation, though..

Have a nice day..
Thierry

My wish is the same since

My wish is the same since version 2 : that Caustic finally has a "complete" implementation with regard to Midi ("complete" in that Caustic has no obvious lack in this domain) :

- pitch-bend recording and automation,

- the ability to select the channel that must get the Midi focus on the mixer, insert effects and sequencer screens. For example, click on the channel number on the mixer screen to select it as the channel with midi focus, so you can tweak the channel parameters while you play. I admit it's less obvious on the 2 others screens.

Yes.. I never thought ofthis

Yes.. I never thought ofthis option.. But sure the possibility to play notes on the machine while you are setting its level, effect insert, etc, would be helpful..
Same for the effect page :being able to play notes while we set the parameters of the effect would be useful and comfortable too..
But when it's not implemented, we still can play a pattern while we tweak the effect knobs or the console settings..

Have you thought of going

Have you thought of going into MIDI options, setting 'one midi channel per instrument', then changing the master channel on your controller to get from one machine to another? Then you can adjust mixer, fx and what have you whilst playing the keyboard.

pitch bend

if you want real pitch bend use 1 Polyphony and slide the notes then export in the editor open and change pitch/time and do it for each octave then you can just add a sample and layer what your desired effect is..  here is my SC https://soundcloud.com/dj-intoxsyn I do this on all of my instruments some ppl call it parallel compression everything was made solely in Caustic.. no external equipment. or samples..

Hello Thierry!

Hello Thierry!

Yes, Pitch Bend!..It has been mentioned before and I hope that it will be implemented at some point. I don't know how difficult it can be, but it'll definitely open possibilities for any genre. I have to say that I am addicted to pitch bend as it offers a more organic feel in a strictly mechanical track. I think that and the sfz importing issue (currently Caustic doesn't import loop points - the samples have to be imported one at a time in order to get the loop points working) are still 2 reasons that kinda hold back this program from being exceptional. Of course it's my number 1 and sole DAW at the moment. Just my 2 cents...

Hello Spyro..

Hello Spyro..
I didn't work much with sfz yet.. But i think I understand what you mean.. It happened à few times that I tried an sfz file and all notes were in "play once" mode.. I thought that they had been saved this way, I didn't think of a conversion issue..

But this thread has not been placed in the "feature request" area ( I did request it, about one month ago) and is more about how we can simulate a pitch bend effect, until one day maybe this feature is implemented..
Giving an human, organic, feel to our songs, is important to me.. Some people will wonder why.. They have a different approach, and for them, synthesisers don't have the mission to imitate existing instruments, but electronic music has to develop its own word, language, vocabulary.. Even a mechanic, robotic.feel, will do.. I don't mean they are wrong..
But even they, can benefit from a pitch bend implement.. Their use would be different, with other purposes that's all..

Nice track, Intoxsyn.. Really

Nice track, Intoxsyn.. Really.. (and nice nickname, too).. Beautiful and powerful sounds..
Sure, a lot of work to achieve this result.. It deserved it, seeing how good the result is..
But stillSure a good way to solve the no-bend problem..
But still.. I would still wish a ready to use, simple to use, feature.. As simple as "I tweak the pitch-bend wheel, and I have the effect right now.. And I can dose it" better than a rather complicated solution..

But still.. A very good track, you've done here.. I like it..

@paulovski : yes you're right

@paulovski : yes you're right, the "one midi channel per instrument" is the way to go if you want to set wich instrument has the midi focus and keep this setting thru all the screens, thanks !

So spyrocks is right, there are just a few things to make Caustic near to perfection. I understand that Caustic's PCM Synth can't exploit all the sf2 or sfz informations but the basic ones are the mapping of the samples across the keyboard, rootkey of each sample, and the loop informations, at least the main loop if the loop mode is compatible with the modes in Caustic.

I'm still convinced that a slicer in the wave editor, with the ability to create Beatbox or PCMSynth presets from the slices of our choice, is another great addition...

@intoxsyn, can you make a caustic file of what you are saying, I don't understand your trick...
