Hmm, so I'm just working on some time signature features and I stumbled upon this bug in 3.1 that might be useful to some for experimenting. Maybe someone has posted this before, I don't recall seeing a post about it.
If you want to place a pattern and have it NOT aligned to the measure line, first switch to pianoroll view in the sequencer, then touch the note icon between the two zoom icons. De-select "Q.tize" on the right, then select some note zoom value to make the menu go back to normal.
Now if you switch back to pattern view, you can move your pattern and it will respect the "don't quantize" feature of the pianoroll, allowing you to place it at a delay. You can use this to repeat a pattern to odd values like 1.5x, but you can't go smaller than 1 measure. Overlapped patterns are also possible and while the app gives an error, it still plays fine, just cuts off the old measure to play the new one.
Just remember to set quantize back on when you're done messing around.
Will be good to have time sigs too! Thanks developer.
I make creative EDM utilising Caustic and many other Daws. See for yourself on my SoundCloud, you may like it :) https://soundcloud.com/xandyaudio thanks!
Nice. Didn't saw this before. And when you switch back to quantize, the pattern can still be moved, keeping his relative position.
Interesting, will check into this...
Well this should open up some weird. Nice.
Let's not call it a bug. More of an unintended feature :)
Yeah, unless it causes horrible bugs (midi export might be screwed up),I think I'll leave it in, but controllable through a separate pattern quantize flag rather than a global one used for both patterns and pianoroll notes.
Don't really understand. But ok. After rereadin' its sumwhat clear but still hard two discern what's what. I'll await a video tutorial update. But if time signatures is being worked on. Heeeeryyyy who cares what i understand.
Go go rej!!!
That is all. //drools
¿que onda, pachuco?
Ok, I really tried to get it to crash out today. Overlapping clips, clips with pattern automation on tracks with song automation, overlaping vocoder clips that change modulators, modulars with random arppegiators affecting machines at random times, loading up 14 machines and having un-quantized clips in every track, exporting stems.....I could not find a way to use this that caused Caustic to behave any differently. In everything I've done, I can't tell a difference between using un-quantized notes and un-quantized patterns.
I'll keep trying.
A quick search brought this up.
I consider it a feature.
Funny "easter egg" bug!
Maybe, Rej could lift it to a real feature in the next major release... This might include a better access to non-quantized mode and/or a quantized move in parts of a measure (at least "beats") depending on the actual zoom level.
Ah, I should have known Paulovski would have found that...
Yes carl-alex, I intend to clean it up and offer it as it doesn't seem to break anything. I'll also be allowing snap to beats instead of measures as a toggle on the song to help those wanting to work on multi-signature pieces (all 3 of you ).
I reckon 3 is a serious underestimate.
I read through paulovski's link and found I was using that and didn't even know it was a trick. I had a drum pattern with only two kicks in the first measure and later I wanted just those kicks so I shortened the pattern in the sequencer to one measure and it cut off the end of the pattern. I got the two kicks and didn't need a separate pattern. Now, I have to see what happens when I try Rej's new 'feature'.
I just under mr. paulovski feature. ((( excuse me mr. Paulovski , it just does not seem clear what u doing two get the fill.
I did this once by accident, then couldn't work out how I'd done it!
Yes, I think the true number is somewhere around 5
Here is a video of me performing the glitch. I did it using a beatbox because it's the most noticeable effect but it works on anything :)
Imagine how cool it would be if we had the opportunity to ´shorten´ a pattern by dragging from the left too! (I have mentioned it before, I don´t remember when). That would save some work. (I´m lazy. I know, I know. *Slapping my face with a dead leek*)
I never thought you can use this feature not only with the placement of the note but also the whole pattern!
Keep it up Rej!;)
