Lower your Master Limiter

Lower your Master Limiter Post Gain back to 12:00, add a Master Compressor, and cut your Master Fader down a few notches, and you're good to go.

Aha Jason I have a perfecto question for you! What is the perfect compressor settings or at least a guide, I've seen your sonic max template from your pack I bought but I'd like to know the theory. I searched around but can't find much. I know how a compressor works but I don't know how it can be used in the master? Any advice? And for the limiter too, I'm thinking of mastering some of my songs in FL since I can't afford someone to do a good job :P

Mostly I've been questing in my songs, setting a compressor randomly and setting it so it barely does anything :)

@Mrshots: The settings

@Mrshots: The settings depends very much on what you are compressing and what results you are aiming at. For mastering purpose typical settings are slow attack and fast release, then you set threshold and ratio to taste. But there really are no hardwired rules, search the Tube to see how others us compression then try to do the same within Caustic.

Ey up. So u can use compressor in track effect and this can help fix a bit of unwanted distortion in ur track? Big questions from me is how it works, how to work it/get the best out of it, and last but not least. What the functions are regarding the 1-2-3-4 etc chain thingy majigy.

Thanks

A good way to gauge a

A good way to gauge a compressor setting for your Master Rack is this:

1. Set up a Compressor Module

2. Set the Threashold ridiculously low, so the audio pumps very badly

3. Adjust your Attack and Release until you get a sense of steady rhythm and beat that matches your track.

4. back off your Threshold until you get a clean driving tone, without the heavy "pumping" effect.

Additionally, you will get a cleaner response from the Compressor, if you don't feed it with alot of Low Frequencies (your bass) generally 150hz and below....  you can compesate for that Post-Comp in the Master EQ.

I like to add a Multi-Filter Module in the second Master FX Slot, and set the Reso to Min., Frequency Sweep "2 clicks" from Min., Gain to approx 1:00 position.   This adds some deep low end, that really fills up the room, so to speak -- but still use the Master EQ to balance your audio spectrum as necessary, to finalize your balanced signal through the Master hard-knee Limiter (to be used ideally for intermittant signal spikes to clipping >+0V stage) and then carefully adjusting your Master Fader for optimum normalization.

Ye I've had a play about n

Ye I've had a play about n quite happy with the result. It was quite nasty on the ear. Used compressor first. Got it sounding nice with that. Had to move the threshold a little coz it was going silent on last 4 beats of a build up before breakdown, this made the sound quality a little punt again to erase the silent patches but not as bad. Played with the limiter after that then the master EQ. Sucked a load of middle out of it, adjusted a few channel volumes, reverbs n shit n it sounds much better. It's taken a little bit of character out of the whole thing but not enuf to cry over so yea I'm quite pleased with the result. Thanks a lot chaps
