Was playing with Muted Warped Glock, stumbled on a simple melody that made me think of Selected Ambient Works 2 from Aphex Twin, so I wanted to try and make a track out of it. Then I started thinking about robotic surgery for some reason.
The file seems to be bugged or damaged. When I open it in Caustic I hear a sharp click, and the mixer volume stays stuck midway when the track isn't playing (no sound can be heard tho). Also had a sharp click at the beginning and end of the wav/ogg export (edited it out a bit in audacity, next time I need to remember to leave the first bar blank). Think it's a problem with the bitcrusher maybe....
Maybe this is the kind of file Rej woulx like to check out?
Yeah, send me the file.
Thanks for sending that over. Yeah it seems like the bitcrusher's depth set that low causes some DC offset (i.e.: the signal doesn't reset to 0 when stopped as it should), probably due to rounding errors in the bitcrusher's code.
The good news is theat the next version will feature an entirely re-written and unified DSP engine, specifically made (among other things) to avoid accumulating errors like this. (The song loads fine and shows no DC on the VU meters in the latest version)
The bad news is you don't have this version so you'll need a workaround... it's really due to the depth knob being so low so see if you can back that off a little and still get the sound you want.
Thanks. I'll keep it in mind next time.
Yes I can hear your problem was a side-effect of using BitCrusher the way you did. I actually like the "side-effects" it produces, because it introduces some unexpected artifacts, that actually make the song sound interesting.
Like Rej said, its in the knob settings...... Automate them at the beginning and end of your song, so you elminiate the clicks (the WarpedGlock preset has some heavy harmonic content that "agitated" BitCrusher haha), or do what u did in Audacity and edit the pops out.
Nice track BTW....
Awesome track, Johan. You're a virtuoso with creating atmosphere in your work!
