[Closed, not a bug] - Missing Parts to Song

Hi,

I have saved a song, worked on another and then gone back to the original but there are some parts that are visually missing on-screen.

Some of my piano roll notes are no longer on screen and some of the sequencer blocks have dissapeared. The odd thing is though that the song continues to play normally!

Is this something you have seen before?

By the way - this is an amazing app!!

I've not seen this happen

I've not seen this happen before. It's possible the file got corrupted when saving or that the storage media is full or has errors. It's also possibly just a bug with Caustic I hadn't encountered before.

If it happens often, I'd suspect something is wrong with the device. If it's a once off, it's probably just a bad save.

If you want to send me the file I can see if it can be salvaged.

That's strange, b/c a similar

That's strange, b/c a similar thing happen to me before...... in the 2.0.2 build last year.... It only happened to one Song.   I chaulked it up to a corrupt file somehow... I made a few mods to it, saved it under a new name and the issue seemed to go away.

This is why I save multiple versions of the same song, as my composition progresses....

Apologies for the delay

Apologies for the delay replying, I will email the song to you.

For reference, I am using a nexus 7, 32gb with 11gb free. Android version 4.2.2, caustic version 2.1.2.

Thanks

Hi again, the file you sent

Hi again, the file you sent in looks fine to me...

There's some notes (F4-G4) that start playing at bar 7 on PCMSynth2, triggered from pianoroll instead of patterns. You can see them in the pianoroll when you select that machine .. are you sure you're not just looking at the wrong machine in the sequencer's pianoroll view? the song was saved with PCMSynth1 selected in pianoroll view.

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the reply.

I cannot see the notes that you mention, I will email some screen shots. If I select the piano roll of PCMSynth2 (pattern A1) there are no notes selected. If I choose select 'none' and then select 'all' the 'SEL' button does not show that any notes have been selected.

I have not been using Caustic very long so I may have missed something but I thought that you pulled the parts together in the sequencer. So if I had a pattern in A1 PCMSynth2 then I would drop an A1 block on the sequencer (this is what I did with my original piece but it does not appear in the sequencer any more or on the piano roll).

Can you take a look and see if the notes actually appear on the piano roll on your machine (for A1 on PCMSynth2).

Thanks

Maybe, you have upgraded from

Maybe, you have upgraded from Caustic 1.0?

I never have any "pattern" notes in the piano roll. Caustic does not copy notes from the pattern into the pianoroll, when a pattern is chosen in the sequencer.

Assuming you're with exactly

Assuming you're with exactly the same song you sent Reg, try this. On the sequencer page, top right, there's a window probably saying PCMSynth. Press this. This will select the next machine in the rack and if the next machine in the rack is your PCMSynth 2, you should see the notes Reg is talking about. Delete them if you so wish. Now over to the top left there's a button with a keyboard symbol. Press this. Now you should be able to see your patterns again. There are two ways of writing notes into the sequencer. you can write patterns and place them where you want or, for certain machines, you can write notes directly into the sequencer (piano roll). Hope this helps.

There are two ways you can

There are two ways you can have notes play. By creating patterns and having them play in the sequencer or by placing notes manually in the song sequencer pianoroll view. Patterns are better suited for repetitive things and the the song sequencer pianoroll is better suited for things that don't repeat or have very long notes (greater than 8 bars)

In the track you sent me, some instruments trigger from patterns (Beatbox) but PCMSynth2 doesn't have patterns, it has notes placed in the song sequencer pianoroll view. To see them, go to the song sequencer (last panel) and press the upper-left button until you see a pianoroll, then press the upper-right button until it reads PCMSynth2. Scroll down to octave 4 and you'll see your notes.

FWIW, you can use Patterns in

FWIW, you can use Patterns in the Sequencer and PianoRoll content at the same time.....  But I think in the latest 2.1.2 build, erasing Pattern Blocks should not also erase PianoRoll content directly behind it...

Apologies for the delay

Apologies for the delay replying and thanks for all of the answers. I only get a chance to play with Caustic every now and then (unfortunately) and I think that was the problem. I must have switched views and then forgot that the feature existed! When I switch back it is all there (red face)!
