Earth Wind and Fire

Done on Nexus 7 tablet.

Vocals by Gloria the singing penguin from the kids movie Happy Feet.

My 1st breakbeat tune... much much harder than i thought it would be. So many timing issues - i don't think i got everything right but in the end I was spending hours just shifting samples and breaks forwards and backwards by tiny fractions AAARRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!  I'm done with this tune now.

Timing of breaks and samples

Timing of breaks and samples can get tricky at times, but if you do it right and save it when you get it, you'll never have to worry about it again.   I had all of my timed samples sync'd at 168bpm..... Now I'm up to 172, and all I had to do was globally shift the sample content to match.

Nice sound and energy in your track.  Well done.

Cool track, I certainly

Cool track, I certainly couldn't hear any timing issues.

Fun fact, I worked on the audio engine for the last Happy Feet video game (happy feet 2) and so I've heard my share of penguins singing.

My son thought this track was hilarious (the high pitched voice) and was dancing in my office while it was playing. I then listened to another track and he got angry and said: "play the funny one again"

Hahaha!  My youngest daughter is the same way..... if she hears something funny, she'll want to listen to it to death!   Grrrr!   Lol.   Wow Rej, your boy is growing too fast, better not blink to many times..... I did, and now mine, they're 3 and 8.  surprise

"play the funny one"... I'm a serious artist don't you know! wink

Kids eh! My 21 month old daughter has recently decided she can do without her afternoon sleep altogether... There goes 3 hours of daily Caustic / me time  for ever... Oh well I guess I'll have stop doing time consuming, sample based stuff so much.crying

Tempted to mess around with Audacity's time/pitch shifting capabilities to help when making rhythm based sample songs. I had to chop the vocal samples into pretty small chunks as the singing wasn't in time with the drum loop samples. I'd already pitched them up as much as I dared to help them fit with the drums but it was still hard work and I'd already spent a long time getting all the drum loops at the same bpm and didn't want to change their pitch any more. Just wondering if anybody has had much success with editing samples in this way using Audacity or similar...unless something like this is coming to Caustic.

I didn't even blink and mine are 13 and 14.

Interesting fun fact Rej, audio adventures seem to suite you well.

Yup, I had the same thing

Yup, I had the same thing happen to me when the little man went from 2 sleeps to one, luckily after a few months, instead of two 45 minute sleeps he's doing one good 2h nap now so I actually get more time for Caustic (coding not creating).

I don't see time-preserving pitch shift coming to Caustic for a while. I've got a WAV editor going so there's a place to put offline processing steps now, but it'll focus on the more common tasks like chopping clips, fade-in fade-out for the first release.
