Take A Deep Breath

As said in sc, I've just had enough of this tune now lol. Been on it bit by bit for over a year now and it's just pissing me off lol. Let me know what you think good or (most likely) bad. Thanks

Cheers dude. In my mind,

Cheers dude. In my mind, there's a lot of stuff not right with it. As said it was originally an orchestral piece, but when I came back to it, I messed around with different styles. But I get where u coming from re the drums. I haven't really got too much exp with dnb tbh, I'm just winging it really

Very nice, I enjoyed it very

Very nice, I enjoyed it very much.  I think it's well produced, listening on headphones I could really enjoy what you did with your sounds and panning, but technical stuff means nothing if the music isn't there.  I really liked your cello melody that comes in at several points. I like the the strings, both their melody and rhythm. I like the lead run with its delay that punctuates the song and ends it. Anyway, the music is there and I enjoyed how you put it together.  Maybe it's the cello or the chords progression but it ends up being either wistful or bittersweet in its sound.

Cheers dude. Bittersweet

Cheers dude. Bittersweet kinda nails it. Originally it was going to be a purely orchestral piece, kinda like something that wouldn't be outta place in a Nordic Noir TV show, with the cello being the main hook, but I switched out a lot of the strings etc to make it more dnb. Thsnks for the feedback

I have said this before, but

I have said this before, but I think it bares repeating. I am quite aware that it is a big thing to do remixes, and covers and all that type of thing, which is all very fine, but when I listen to your original pieces, I always think man you should be doing more, now i don't know why you don't obviously it's your bag and you are doing what you want, which is great, but yeah well anyways, I will shut up now...lol..This is a great sounding track

Cheers dude. I think with

Cheers dude. I think with remixing for me, it's a lot of different reasons. Firstly, I like the song and I'd like to reinterpret it. But it also has a further reach online. With the nick Jonas remix, most of the likes are from total strangers. And the ed sheeran remix I did a couple years ago got 8k hits on youtube. The hope is that if people like what I've done with an established tune, they'll give my homebaked goods a taste.i like to alternate between original and remix tunes and I think most my remixes are totally different to the originals, apart from the last two, which followed the same chord structure. But thanks for the feedback cos tbh, I was having a bit of a crisis of confidence with this tune and there's still a lot that I'm not happy with but overall I like the sound and style.

I second Wellsley's comments

I second Wellsley's comments on your original music, for what it's worth.

Cheers jhs. To be honest I

Cheers jhs. To be honest I only posted it to get it out the way. I always end up going at it when I take a caustic session. It became like the FWB that you just sleep with cos she's there lol. Wasn't really expecting such positive feedback, so really grateful thank you. I think remixing is kinda a safety net also.....when you make an instrumental, you have to put more emotion into it, whereas with a remix, the words and how they're sung can carry a lot of the tune. And it's just fun messing with vocals lol. It's like making your own level of a fave video game

I've only done 2 remixes and

I've only done 2 remixes and both were of instrumental tracks by other Caustic creators. The most recent was a remix of EKT's Embrace and it was a lot of fun and challenging, to remix his pieces into my own arrangement. It was really satisfying and I am proud of the finished piece.  All to say that, I'm starting to see the enjoyment in that side, too.

Remixing is a lot of fun,

Remixing is a lot of fun, being able to reimagine a tune, but I love making original music too. I try to alternate between the two

Cheers man, of course I

Cheers man, of course I remember you dude. One of my fave tunes to redo was Blue Beat. I played it back a few weeks ago and, with the knowledge I've gained since then, I can honestly say there isn't much I'd change in that tune. Maybe a bit of sidechaining and more eq ing but I had so much fun making it lol

A very cool track Alexei, I

A very cool track Alexei, I would like to venture into writing DnB a bit more myself, but I always seem to give up and 'play it safe' with my usual dance / house style instead! A year in the making?! I thought I took my time with tracks!

I love the vocal samples dispersed throughout the first half of the track, they work really well, and the orchestral parts are written and arranged very naturally. Nice work!

Dude, your "playing it safe"

Dude, your "playing it safe" is awesome, and I wish my stuff was as accomplished as yours is. Your work with vocal choppery is astounding dude.
As for making a dnb tune, it's probably best to start with the tempo, and see what you come up with.
With dance, the tempo is pretty limited to 120-140, give or take. With dnb, there's a luxury of approaching a 180bpm tune as a 90bpm one.
Ultimately, there are no rules, so don't be scared to break any perceived ones, because that's how new styles are born.
I started making stuff other than dance just because you can get stuck in your ways and follow formulas, so doing dnb and dub type stuff was a way to learn new approaches. This was meant to be purely orchestral but when I came back to it I just took a new road.
Really glad you like it though, cos your stuff is one of my benchmarks

Ps, the vocals both come from

Ps, the vocals both come from freesound.org, an awesome site that I can't rate highly enough for various home made, royalty-free samples

Haha, thanks, I do like a bit

Haha, thanks, I do like a bit of 'vocal choppery'! And it's very kind of you to say so, but I don't think your work is any less accomplished than mine - I often feel other people's music sounds more professional than mine too, but I think it has to do with knowing every element of your own music inside out, due to listening to it hundreds of times throughout it's creation!

I will also have another go at DnB, try increasing that tempo and see how I get on - It would be nice to mix things up a bit, for a change. I have heard of freesound.org, but will check it out again based on your recommendation. Cheers!
