Works in progress

Okay, I've got a dozen or so pieces in progress in various states but thought I'd share a few in case anyone else wanted to lend a hand or fancied a challenge too.

The first two are just layered patterns with no arrangement - fragments at best.

The third is partially arranged but I'm just stuck with no inspiration to finish it - was aiming for an epic trance feel but with very punchy, agressive  drums.

I had a look at your files

I had a look at your files and found one speaking to me. I picked “Subsynth Squeal” and built upon it. I used your bassline and the beat without much changes, mostly copy and paste and transpose for the bassline. Hmm, it sounds a bit like Bowies Heroes because of the BL tone I put in there but I like the sound of it.devil

Here’s the file…

Ha ha, I love it. I kinda had in mind some form of synthetic heavy metal when I started it. This explains the ponderous tempo and heavy snares. You've dragged it in a synth pop direction. I thought of Ashes to Ashes with the sound you picked for the main melody.

I thought the bassline and

I thought the bassline and beat sounded kind of bluesy, that’s why I chose those chords. I planed to use the BL as a lead guitar but I ended up playing long tones with it instead “the ways of Caustic are mysterious”.cheeky

The result kind of sound like Iggy Pop’s cover of “Wild One” to. Glad you liked it. I haven’t decided if I’m gonna upload it to SC yet, after all it’s your baby and you should take credit for it.wink

Go for it if you want to

Go for it if you want to upload it, after all you just had one simple pattern to work from with a few extra drum beats. It's yours more than mine now smiley

Ok, I’ll think about it for a while it needs some mixing anyway. But if I do I need to refer to you so what do you prefer Bipidribait or James Muir?

if you post it on SC you can

if you post it on SC you can put my SC profile in the comments section when you upload it. But yeah, James is probably better. Bipidribait is an obscure reference to the PC RPG Anachronox.

Wow, nice minimal grove and a great live mix. That Kind of approach really speaks to the part of me that loves hypnotic, repetitive music. Letting the mix not the melody carry the track.

There's a click when the beat stops :(

That click is in the sample of the clap, when the beat goes on it's covered up by the bassdrum :(

Tried to get rid if it, I only used five machines, so I put in another BB for a clap when the beat stops, reduced decay, gave it some reverb and tried making it sound as similar as possible:

Can I upload this on soundcloud as a remix? Like that beat a lot, very nice bassline, love the flanger effect.

I only heard it once, so I

I only heard it once, so I may need a few more listens to get used to the new BB sounds. I liked the previous, because it reminded me a bit of Blue Monday. My first impression is the new BB kit sounds is maybe too heavy, sounds less upbeat. Think I'd also tune down the click in the other BB a bit, make it fall in line more with the new beat.
