Blue Monday Project...

Caustic Song file (optional):

It's nearly Monday here...

This is possibly one of the most pointless things I've worked on in Caustic. There's really nothing I can do with this, I got the bit between my teeth and saw it through and ended up with this. An emulation of a little track called Blue Monday by a little band called New Order who knocked out some early electronica in 1983...

So listen, learn, improve it... and please remix it like a bastard!

Keep everything posted back here, ideally with Caustic files for everyone to paw over.

I do this because I love you all in a very real and sweaty way.

Rob

Thanks. I got your notification and already had listened on Monday to your new version.

How did you make the vocal track?

Found an acapella download!

Found an acapella download! Split it up in caustic and spread it across the pcm.

Feel free to improve the whole thing!

OK, it's been so long, I hope you check back and see what I've done to it.

*Edited to delete earlier version of file.  New version on later post.

Cool new version!

Cool new version!

Unfortunately the vocals are in a tempo about 127 and the song is 132, so the vocals come off time. (Maybe you could stretch the wave files in the PCM synth.)

I worried about that becoming

I worried about that becoming noticable but felt like they kind of "re-synched" in the new tempo.  If I had the time to tweak the WAV files I would. Otherwise, it might be easier to drop it back down to 128.

As it is not one complete

As it is not one complete audio track for the vocals, they get re-synched whenever a new sample is started in the PCM synth.

You also may try to tune the PCM synth. But then the vocals can come out of tune from the rest.

Yes, I know that each sample

Yes, I know that each sample's start time gets resynched but felt the rhythm of the vocals still fell into the new tempo without seeming off.  We need a blind test.  As I said, I'd definitely tweak WAV files but this was just for fun and I just don't have time.

OK, so I'm the only one to take on Blue Monday but I took carl-alex's suggestion and went back and adjusted the vocal samples to match my new tempo, added a few more tweaks here and there.  Hope Rob comes back to hear this new version. it was fun, Rob.

That's very cool, the filter

That's very cool, the filter by on the octapad really makes the sounds 'pop'. Not sure I approve of the Hooky replacement! The upping the tempo and dancing it up more is really effective.

Come on people, I'm absolutely stunned this hasn't had more take up! It's Blue Monday for goodness sake! It's a dancefloor classic... Let's get involved!

Thanks, like I said it was a fun project. Yes, going Gregorian on a tune like this is different but being different was the goal ;-)  I was also happy with BP on the vox and automating a BP on your Growl. Anyway, thanks for sharing. It would be fun to hear someone else's version ...

I've got that single! It's just a 303, you should be able to get very close with a bassline, sawsynth or modular... Might have a play later...

Please post if you get the time.  I've tried to recreate the classic 303 tracks (Confusion, josh wink etc.) but the sound is never quite right.
