Want to add depth and complexity to a pad or drone? Yup. Ring Modulation.

Caustic Song file (optional):

Chorus, flangers, phasers, reverb, delay - all effects impart their own sonic characteristics. As does a ring modulator.

Here are 4 unremarkable drone sounds, each plays a single drone note and the ring modulation swells in. Once again, try playing with the Octaves, Semi and Cents.

An approach to tuning the

An approach to tuning the TriRing. Caustic file is fairly straightforward.

Tuning is personal and subjective; the following is by no means a blanket solution.

When the ring mod comes in you can here a strong 5th overtone. By lowering the original drone from the Subsynth followed by 2 of the waveform generators the 5th is isolated and raised to a (flat) 7th. The volume of the other 2 generators, a root and a 5th, are then brought back up and balanced. Finally the SubSynth is returned to the mix.

If you watch the back of the Modsynth while the file plays it will demonstrate.
