Caustic Song file (optional):
A cover of Limahl's old hit Neverending Story wich was feaatured in the series Stranger Things. I mainly made it to see if I could create the sounds and to test out the asesome mastering app that Rej made for us.
Enjoy

Really well done! Nice recreation of this 80s classic, and yes, you gotta love Stranger Things for bringing this one back. I particularly like the vocoding vocal melody!

Yeah, Stranger Things is my favorite right now. Hopefully they continue produce it.
Nice ...
I did this version a few years back on Caustic 2

Cool, looking forward to hear what you do with it.
I loved that movie as a kid :) Nice cover.
Mastering app, sweet! I'll have to check that out, see if I can work with it.
Thanks IG,
You gonna love the mastering app, it has everything you need to polish your mixes.
You upload a new version?
Ah yes, I see, first post is edited. I'd heard the first version before, this new version seems to sound crisper, clearer.
Yes, I wasn't happy with the EQ on the first mix. It sounded good when I exported it from Caustic but the highend was killing me after the mastering process, so I had to go back to the mix and fix it.
Thats a common mistake most rookies do. You really cant fix anything in the master stage, you can only enhance whats already there.
I got the mastering app yesterday, looks good. I'm new to this, so I was trying to figure it out yesterday, also seen the overview vid on youtube. Seems important to not exaggerate, keep it subtle. I often use big reverb in my tracks, already do some correction for it in the caustic eq, but in the mastering app it works way better. I compared the first result of one of my tracks with an online mastering service ( https://emastered.com/ ) and what I'd done sounded pretty close to the result of the online service, so I should be okay.
Hi IG,
Yes subtile is the way im most cases, but mastering is no different from producing or mixing. Its really only the last stage before you release a song and its up to you and your taste what you do wifh it. With castic tracks I usually EQ more agressive than normal because I cant solve all problems in the mixing stage. But it is important to get your mix as close to what you want before you start mastering.
There are some tools in the mastering app that is new to you if you only been using caustic before. You can PM me if you need help to get started.
Thanks. Yes, there really doesn't seem like a single right answer when it comes to mastering. Hearing again what I'd done, I don't actually like the result anymore, I enhanced things I didn't want enhanced, it sounds close to the automatic mastering on the eMastered site, but as for my taste, it didn't do a very good job, you can't just trust robots for something like this I guess ^^
I also made a mistake with using the compressors, completely squashing the sound. The clipper seems odd to me, it just sounds like it ads distortion at the top end, which seems like something I usually want to try and avoid. I looked it up and it appears like that is what it's supposed to do, for people wanting to add grittiness to a track. Lots of info can be found online, which is cool.
While realising my tracks coming out of caustic can sound better, I am mostly happy with the result after mixing.
The stereo imager I like most, sounds like it gives a nicer wider spread to the sounds. Also like what I can hear coming from the exciter, a track sounds more lively, dynamic to my ears. Some EQ seems okay, but not too much. One thing that's always bothered me hearing my tracks on a radio show or in a mix or compilation is the volume seems less than other people's tracks (about 70 or 80% of other tracks), and a less vivid sound. I think amplifying, the imager, exciter, and some EQ can help me out. Compressors and limiters don't appear to be too standardly needed.
It does tend to make me go a bit crazy tho, this mastering thing, I tend to start doubting and second guessing everything, not a good experience.
Excellent
Thanks Jason, good to see your still around.
